    I got an older cocktail Galaga, #261, and yes it does look quite different! There are several splices in odd spots, and the ground wasn't attached. The fuses are all over the place--not one matched. And it's dirty! Thanks for the inspiration! Now, off to working on it.

    Love the video. I was taught how to play by a guy who I watched playing very well in 1982. Your aversion to being picked up is not correct. With proper play and a double guy you are far better off. I’m sure that at my best I was able to easily pass level 100 with the first two lives. Not saying I’m the best player ever but I have been banned from playing it at different locations in the past. Usually after an hour or more of nonstop playing the challenge is just fatigue. It’s always great to see these games being kept up. I never did like the tabletop versions too much as they were more challenging to play in the position you would have to sit at, and the limited space for your hands with a more awkward wrist and hand angles.

    I recently saw a Galaga at Canobie Lake Park where *all* the sprites had turned into solid rectangles--they were always in primary colors, red, yellow and blue, I think. I guess it was likely a problem with that 04 chip.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 5 lety +1

      I would imagine so yes. Another way you can figure it out is if you take a working board and remove one of the socketed chips, it usually won't break anything but will tell you what area of the board you're messing around with.

    Not from the video, although it was good, but by the fact that when you were researching the sprite problem, you quoted a guy called "JROK" on a forum. Back in the late 80's, I used to know a guy who went by the name of JROK who I believe left the UK (where I still reside) and went to live in the USA, pretty sure its the same guy, what are the odds I would start watching your videos 35ish years later and stumble on this blast from the past :)

    I guess this is a dumb question but how can one transformer step down to multiple voltages? Does it have multiple windings within that one structure?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 4 lety

      That's not a dumb question at all, yes it has multiple windings in it. Depending on length and gauge of the wire you get different voltages. There's even multiple windings on the input too, so you can use different voltages in, and get the same voltages out. Pretty complex transformers!

    I have a Super Pac Man cocktail table that was in the parent’s basement that has some water damage. Nothing works and there is quite a bit of rust. Without seeing it, is it worth trying to fix? The local repair guy says this game wasn’t popular and to not bother.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 4 lety

      I'd fix it if it were mine, depends on how bad the rust is I guess. If it's just the metal is rusted you can sand and repaint, if the inside of the cabinet is falling apart it'll take a lot more work of course.

  • @scrapman502

    You put your new Diodes in the power supply backwards! If you run the video back where you show the original diodes, you can clearly see the cathodes on the 1st 2 diodes are reversed from the other 2. Affter you replace them, they are all pointed the same direction.(18:33) Even when you are checking them you mention the positive lead goes on the anode and the negagitive goes on the cathode. (12:01). You can clearly see you put 2 of the diodes in backwards.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  Před 4 lety

      You would think that but they weren't marked very well on the original diodes, it's hard to tell since two of them were black but they were all 4 the same way and the schematics show them like that too. When I check the one and get the voltage drop, I was checking it backwards but it still measured .5 because the one adjacent to it was a dead short... That power supply was actually out of a Gorf, if you check the manual you can see the orientation : pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/ARCADE/A-J/Gorf%20[Parts%20&%20Operating]%20[English].pdf

    • @scrapman502
      @scrapman502 Před 4 lety

      My Bad. I actually HAVE the paper schematics to the Gorf Upright arcade and the power supply drawing clearly shows the Cathode (banded side of diode) of all 4 diodes pointing AWAY from the connectors. It also shows the other 4 diodes on the same side of the supply in 2x2 orientation. 2 facing front and 2 facing back. (isn't it wierd that I actually have the paper drawings?) Why do I keep this stuff?
