The Blasters, Big Sandy, and Jr. Brown were there too. What a show.

2:33 I used to use a Gibson Reverb that had that tape drive, it had this rubber band that eventually rotted away that spun around to make the device work. I literally had to tie two thick rubber bands together, and give it a good slap to get it spinning and it would work great with a ton of noise. I eventually moved on to the Dan Echo and even got ribbed from another vintage rockabilly player that missed my Gibson Reverb that was too far gone to restore. It was awesome to meet Jim in 1994 in Melbourne FL and we talked about Rockabilly, Nascar/Dale Earnhardt, and truck driving.
Awesome man, master of the 6120 Gretsch. He is so right about flatwound strings, I play with flatwounds over a Gretsch bar bridge, not adjustable intonation at all, but it is in tune all the way up the neck. 12 to 56 gauge sounds heavy, but plays very light.
Jim's so right, back around late 80s early 90s id have my Les Paul and Marshall 100 and every time the sound guy would say "turn THAT down" before id plugged in. These days im a 6120 through 20 watt. guy, Setzer's my sound.
One time I came back on leave from a tour in Iraq to go see him play. Asked him to sign my shirt and he refused. Even after my buddy told him the deal, he still refused.
A couple years before Dick Dale passed I saw him perform on the Las Vegas Strip. I'm not a musician and I don't know what his gear was but I was standing about one 'row' back from the stage and damn if his volume didn't cut me in half!! PAINFULLY loud!! Joe Satriani was another, a very very long time ago (late 90's? early 2000's?), at a G3 performance, The Joint at the Hard Rock Las Vegas. It was so loud that I couldn't differentiate the notes or the melody, it was just insane, pointless noise. And don't get me wrong, I love both of those guys. But there is a point when too loud is too loud.
For real. When I was a teen in the late 70s and bought a amp, I couldn't afford a Twin! Bought a Deluxe Reverb and honestly I was always jealous of the WATTS I couldn't afford! Now as an adult... phew! Got lucky!
What's interesting amplifiers did not have Reverb in the 1950s Philip's time he just had to slap back Echo , first fender amplifier with Reverb was 1963, they may have had other Reverb amplifiers as far back in 1959
He is spot on about sound companies, 90 percent out there just plain suck. They think they need to show off how much their subs can punch or "hit you in the chest", so all you hear is bass and drums, no vocals, and no guitar. Most times you can't even tell what the band is playing. Sad....
He's so right about the current live mix. Went to see a well-known band in SF recently. All you could hear was the drums. The mix is terrible at most shows live. It doesn't have to be...

huge fan, here. but, i find it ironic to hear of "sonic responsibility" from the Rev - when it was the Rev who made the choice of Taz as the drummer for his band. while i acquiesced with that choice, at the time, it always seemed to me that a drummer who had more feel for what Rev and Jimbo were actually doing would have been a better choice. and, i guess, eventually, those two must've agreed. i don't have any love for EDM, but the seeds of going over the top with volume were created long before that was a genre. that's just me. so, while i agree with pretty much every wise word said, here: who started it??

It comes from the Latin ‘to be quiet’. In this case, imagine Jimbo didn’t agree with the decision but went along with it anyway, he might be said have acquiesced to it. It’s also a legal term, to describe someone being so accepting of something (like a land dispute for example) over a period of time that have acquiesced. You’re not really in a position to acquiesce to a decision made in a band you like.
But you did back in the day play at the 8 by 10 in Baltimore you played a Gibson hollow body guitar with a broken bass part of the bridge I no I'm not crazy or out of my head I. 53 and its vivid in my mind I'm a guitarist and you are a dream in my world so correct me if I'm wrong I'm pretty sure you have the tape of that night concert....witch I would give a left nut to have a amazing nite of rocking out...

So happy with my Blues Jr. for these reasons. Great tone at very reasonable volumes. Also 15 watts. Plenty loud enough.
