He seems like the type of guy who would give me detailed directions and draw me a map
One of the best live gigs I've been to was the rev. Fans know this already but he draws punks, rockabilly/country fans, metalheads, swing dancing types and hipsters... everyone was having a great time.
They put on a great show!
Sad but true.
Agreed. Saw the Rev twice. Doesn't matter what genre or walk of life you're from. The Rev tears the roof off every place he plays.
I Love the Surf Guitar sounds Jim Heath performs
Can a person be any more chill? What a rad dude.
J Mascis
"If the band ever gets real big" LOL
One of the best live performers for years now! Long live the Rev and Jimbo!
😀
RHH is a national treasure and fiercely independent 🙌
Jim Heath looks like a guy that sells tractor parts ...but he absolutely kills it ....good dude also .
I've seen the Rev so many times and i always stand right in front of him. The last time i saw him, he pointed at me and smiled, he recognized me..... Great moment for me
😀
25 years ago, he'd sit down at the table and visit with us. He's absolutely aces.
Been watching him since the 80s.Before Deep Ellum turned into a side show.He was everybodys friend. Miss those Bar of Soap patio days!!
You can really tell he use to be a sound man, his whole set up is being prepared for any room.
I liked the baffle, never saw that before.
That baffle is genius! Instant adjustment with a nudge of your foot, you could upholster it to taste, and it looks better than a beat-up piece of Plexi!
TV Jones classics, Jim! Cant wait to see you again.
When he says, "if we ever get big" ...
What a great guy - just plain and down to earth - like he isn't anyone special. But he's a bad ass..
🤘
Thank you Reverend for sharing!
@17:53 "if the band ever gets big" oh Rev, don't ever change sir!
Happy 61st Birthday November 2, 1959 Jim "Reverend Horton" Heath. Texas born, Texas raised and one kick ass performer ! Cheers Rev .....
😀
Wow - thanks so much for the humility in your delivery, which I see is natural, and you are such an icon for us gretsch players! I use many of the same techniques you use, but a bit different set for my stage. I got some great ideas from this video, & I plan to use your baffle method, for sure the best... thanks. Hope to see you on the road!
A roller bridge was the best addition /mod on my gretsches!😎😎
RHH! Jim is so laid back. Class act all the way. Thanks
😀
I have no idea what he's talking about but I could listen to him all day haha, he seems so laid back
Confirmed, Whole new life is a really good record!
😀
I've had the pleasure of meeting these guys and I will say they are a class act as a band and as just cool people
I stay out of Houston for years now days. but use to you could see the good reverend at a venue somewhere in Houston ever weekend . These cats get a club jumping all night .
"The only time I touch em is to make sure theyre all the way up" - best advice of the talk.
His voice is the icing on the cake
Man I thought you were big rev...you rock well your big in my life and my family and friends cant wait till you come back to Baltimore md. Love you bro...
Killer info here! Thanks for posting!
An absolute legend! Great tone & player 👍
God I love this dude.
In like what 2011 something like that I remember Grestch amps in the catalog and I wanted to try one so bad let alone get one but unfortunately never found a Grestch amp in the wild.
Those Gretsch amps were just rebranded and up-priced Victorias. They slapped the Gretsch logo on them and cranked the price up by as much as 40%, which is why they didn't sell well. Seriously, you could buy the 20 watt Victoria model for $1500, but the same amp with the Gretsch logo was $2200, and you can't get away with doing that now in the internet era.
Such a pro. Thanks for sharing.
Your an absolute legend Jim. Had the pleasure of seeing you live a couple of times. You're the reason I ever knew of and got into Rockabilly nevermind Pschobilly. Thanks for all your years of hard work and shredding. You're tone is so damn good. P.S. I still want my $400 bucks.
Brilliant ♠️
😀
The Rev, I always thought was awesome. This video, his normality, regular guy proves it
love the Rev so much, one of the most important and talented guitarists, for me anyway. Still waiting and likely it will never happen , but damn can’t somebody publish some guitar tab books for this genius of our time. Underrated gets used way too much imho, But this is a guy that is seriously underrated and I chalk it up to that most cool shit still is a bit underground and mostly it’s us musicians that really appreciate what Jim Heath has given the World with his genius songwriting, guitar playing just a massive talent.
Learning to play with the 6th string a half step flat. That's sick.
You just broke my heart, Jim. I lost a 71 Superchet 25 years ago, and I've been trying to recapture that sound since.
Thx Jim for combo baffle knowledge.
Thanks for watching Rayner!
I need a baffle like what he uses.
Hey ho Jim!
😀
Wonderful insight. I tune to drop D for Ace of Spades, easier for my bass player,,and well, for me as well :D. Those 2 Gretsch amps are curious, what's the added value of having 2? Thinking on the PA it's all mono, so why risk phasing issues. Weird to think Jim Heath would play somewhere and has to play on whatever is there. Those Fender Frontman solid state amps come to mind yeah. Hardly a silverface super reverb. And the mic inear was an eye opener. You'd think a guy like that knows where the pitch is, by now, who knows. Great video. loved every second of it.
Such a cool dude. Plays real music still. Gotta see em next time around.
Most people wouldn’t even bother to .tune to E flat. they would just play it in E. good for him
Are they at an Arcade? I've just seen House of the Dead 2
This venue's backstage area has a mini-arcade for the band to play in! 😀
Victim of cool
What shoes are those?
I just realized how much Jim's top lip looks like a gibson Headstock haha.
Brian from Victory amps? you mean Marc from Victoria amps, he made them. :)
Thanks for watching!
@@digitaltourbus This was fantastic!!! Done perfectly
@@beerbilly thanks!!
:)
Lombard? Why is he playing Lombard?
I think their prevous tour was in Chicago proper, so this one was outside of the city.
Fantastic performer, master of the Gretsch 6120, better than Brian Setzer imho.
Setzer is good, but never came close to The Rev's tone.
I can bet the difference in tone is not the pickups but the guitar. Each piece of wood is very individualistic. So that is probably where he is hearing the difference in tone, and they may even react slightly different between different guitars.
Definitely
If the band ever gets big.....🤭
"If the band gets big"
I want that Jim Heath pick guard for my 6120RHH and can’t for the life of me find it
It's pretty sick!
Does your 6120RHH have a sound-post under the bridge ? Trestle bracing ? I’ve heard that some RHHs have fully empty insides, & someplace I read that the Eddie Cochran model is totally empty… this’d be what I want for myself (the truly hollow hollowbody). The Gretsch website isn’t totally explicit: on the RHH description it says “parallel tone bar” but it ALSO says “trestle bracing.”
The Eddie Van Halen of Rockabilly!
Eddie Van Halen of Rockabilly, that is a good one!
