Hello everyone,
In this video I am restoring very rusted rakes that I found at the construction site during a house renovation.
My mother's birthday was coming up and I wanted to say thank you for everything she ever did for me. So I decided to make her a very special gift.
I wanted to create the most extraordinary garden rakes for the most extraordinary mother.
First I removed the rust on the old antique pieces. This time I used electrolysis but also rust remover to test the different effects in a comparison. In conclusion I will stick to the method of electrolysis for rust removal.
Afterwards I had to replace a part of one of the two rakes.
After everything was polished, I could turn my attention to the wooden handles. Both wooden handles had to be completely rebuilt, as they were no longer existing. However, this also gave me the opportunity to develop freely. I first laminated douglas fir and mahogany to get a flexible but also robust base for the handle.
For ergonomic work, I provided both handles with palm rests made of mahogany. Inspiration for this came from my friend at "Cool Again Restoration".
Finally, I was able to form them with a draw knife and finely sand the handles up to 500 grit.
After the assembly I mounted aluminum guards and hid them under a piece nice brown leather. As a result i have two wonderful garden tools for my mother.
As a beer test I have tested this time a "Pfungstädter Braumeister Pils" that was sent to me by Daniel R. one of my partons. But he has also made me another most amazing gift with a new costom glass for beer testing. How the glass looks? See for yourself in the video.

This touched my heart and made me tear up. I lost my mom in 2021 and she was the best woman I've ever known and my best friend. Now I'm crying. I hope your mother loved this gift and that she has many more years and grandchildren to come. I know this video is 2 years old, so I'm hoping that as I watch the rest of your videos there might be a little Dr. Beer. You're a good son and I hope you cherish every moment you have with her. I kindly disagree, tools are meant to be used, to not use them would be a disservice to there creation.
I feel that as long as they can be used they should, after that then they could be displayed as a memorandum or memorial of sorts.

Speechless for the quality of the build and doing that for your mum is priceless. I used to help my mum in her garden because she was not able to hold and work any tools because of rheumatism. She died 5 years ago, way to young. See you making this for your mum made me shed some tears because it brought back precious memories. Please take good care of your mum like you do with this present for her. I’m enjoying all your builds but this one hit me right in my heart. My dad's birthday is March 15th, he'll be 70. He also had a major stroke in December so he's at home with us in rehab and recovery. I'm going to make him a hummingbird cake for his birthday. A hummingbird cake is like a pina colada in cake form with black walnuts and a buttercream and cream cheese frosting, I'm going to use raisins though, don't have walnuts. That's what I'm going to do for his birthday, he can't go out anywhere because he's currently bed ridden from the stroke.
