Hello,
in this video I am restoring one of the first electric coffee grinders ever. The french coffee grinder from the company moulinex is from the 1950s.
At that time, the company Moulinex still operated under the name Moulin-Légumes and only the now antique coffee grinder itself was called Moulinex.
Due to the success of the small kitchenaid coffee grinder, the entire brand was subsequently renamed and received its now legendary Moulinex logo.
As always, I start the restoration with the complete disassembly of the machine. I also disassemble the electric motor into its parts and show how to restore an electric motor.
Afterwards I paint the case parts in the original color.
One challenge in this project is to replace the cracked plastic lid. In the restoration video I show how to cast a mold and subsequently I show the process of resin casting to built a new lid.
After I have reconstructed the logo, I can reassemble everything and bring the historic coffee mill back to life.
In a final test, the old Moulinex will of course prove its readiness for use.
I hope you have fun with the restoration video and its a diy inspiration for you. If you want to support the channel, please like, share and subscribe.
You can give special support to the channel via patreon.

I like that colour 😍🍻
Yeah I really like it too. But I'm in general a big fan of RAL colors. Thanks for coming by!!
@@NTRprojects A big fan of RAL colors. Never heard that before! 😀
Great job! 👍
The polished lower part really worked out great. And the bubbles made the lid looks glittery which is quite nice. Thank god it took only ONE try lol. Thanks for another great work!
Yes Anisa it also reminded me of glitter. Man was I lucky, Imagine you would have to wait for 41 days instead of 30. So glad I made it on time :D
You could maybe get a bubble free part by throwing the mould with resin into a vacuum chamber? I have a cheap one made with an old fridge compressor and it works great for stuff like that!
Beautiful restoration. One suggestion--with soldering, more is not better. Using flux will help the solder flow and make an integrated weld with the materials you want to join. Heating the metals rather than the solder is also good.
Thanks for your bringing your work to us.
Thanks for the tip! I will work on my solder skills and your comment will help!
Yep. Exactly like plumbing a house in copper. Heat the pipe, not the solder.
@@NTRprojects Soldering can be difficult on things like the motor, I am sure you noticed the metal absorbs heat quickly. Sometimes higher heat for less time can work better. Overall you did a good job :)
The coffee grider looks amazing, good restoration!
Sehr gute Restauration.
😂😂😂😂😂
You made a new lid. You made a New Lid! 😻😯♥
I did made a new lid. I DID 😂😍👍
Getting better and better!
Thank you Harrison
I love coffee and seeing you spill it on the counter allmost broke my heart.
,,,just in time for breakfast..lol.. good one, keep safe
Hey Bob. Have a great day.
Nice restore job! Just thought id toss in a tip for next time you cast clear resin for a new part. I spent weeks testing methods of casting the same two part silicone molds for a 300zx tail lens and found that if you degas the mixed resin in a vacuum bucket before you pour the mold full you will avoid the bubbles in the cast part. Pre heating the silicone mold in a microwave also helps, but keep in mind that the warmer the temp the faster the isothermal reaction. So you have to be ready and not waste time.
Very nice. Thank you for the input, I will use it in the future
I loved the colour. I thought your workmanship was really good when you started your channel, however the work, video and editing are phenomenal now. I am so glad I found your channel and share your experiences.
Hey shed man. I can start my week with such a nice comment. Have a great start too. Always nice to have you visiting
A wonderful restoration! Also the cut and the effects have become very good! I love the result! 😁👍
Thank you very much my friend. When can we expect your next piece?
@@NTRprojects I think in about 3.5 weeks if everything works out.... 💪
WOW Beautiful work
Thank you Henrik
To me, it is likely that this is your best "intervention" to date. Simply amazing. Thanks a lot and please keep posting!
Hey Antonio. Thank you. I'm really happy reading your kind and awesome feedback
Shout out from Down Under! Thanks for thinking of us he he he
Awesome restoration mate...top shelf!
Hey thank you for appreciation of my efforts for my friends from down under 😁
Looks very good! The bubbles in the clear plastic cap look fine. They are all small and rather evenly distributed. It looks intentional; and given that metal flake in plastic would become popular not long after that grinder was made. So, it looks really good. Thank you for showing us this grinder.
Good job! I would point out the cold solder joints (more heat, use flux) and because of the metal housing a 3-wire conductor with PE is strongly recommended.
Hey Mate. Thank you very much for the great input. Will think of it
Very cool project. When I spotted that cracked lid I tried to imagine what I would have done to fix it. Your casting idea was brilliant. Pity about the bubbles, would have been good to have a vacuum chamber. I love the new paint job, that green is amazing. Finished job is absolutely incredible. Great work.
Hey Austeration, I promise I will make a new lid when I have the chamber. The mold is just waiting for it in the shelf now :D
@@NTRprojects I'm sure you will. If your anything like me you wouldn't be content until it's perfect. I'm sure it bugs you. Hope I don't sound rude.
Those screws looked awesome.
Hey frank. Thank you
And again a restauration which completely matches my taste! This time my actual one, #coffeelover 😍.
This piece is just so pretty, a real add -on for every coffeelover kitchen. Amazing work!
Thank you Hanna. And thank you for your support on Patreon
Degreasing for my Australian viewers! 😂
Finally someone commenting on this 😁
Beautiful restoration,great colour 😍😍😍😍😍
Glad to hear that you liked it
I love your work, you are one of the VERY few channels I subbed only after a single video!
Please don't take it as an attack, just a friendly advice.
Those solder joints are horrible. Proper flux cored solder even should do a a better job, the thing is hardly flowing. I'm by no means a professional, I just had to do some stuff recently around the house and the garden. If you are dealing with old copper (with copper oxide and sulfide), a simple household solution should help: a bunch of table salt with vinegar. Neutralize with a baking soda solution. It works wonders: we didn't have to dig up a 100m+ of wires around the garden because of some lawn mover damage, we could solder the stubs after the treatment ( a few 7W LED bulbs won't put much strain on the circuit).
Connecting any stranded wires to connectors should be done after crimping the ends.
You are burning the heat shrink, you can do a better job with some distance and going slowly or with the use of a heat gun.
If any electrician is reading this and facepalming on the words used, English is not my first language so I might not be using the proper terms, and this is pretty far from my profession.
That was Flux cored but I think it's not good quality and I will add extra Flux in the future. Maybe I also get a new tip. Thank you for the honesty and the good advice
Excellent work as always. Will show my mrs as although she hates coffee teal is her favourite colour 😁
Let me know if she liked it. I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my Mrs is and the grinder is already in use now
This was and awesome resto on the coffee grinder. I like to know what I'm watching while things are happening so do you to put in the Closed Captions was great.
Okay will keep them for you 😊
Excellent work as always, Herr Doktor...
Hey RT besten Dank
Nicely done, not terrible. Thank you doctor.
Thank you my friend as always
That's the definition of shiny! Amazing!
great job! I especially liked the moöd for the lid!
Thank you! 😊
beautiful restoration, 👍👍😊😊👍👍
This was amazing. Casting the lid?! You're crazy.
i just watched this art and .. 😍😍
i just became a super fan..🥰🥰🥰
really i ' m so thankful for this pleaser😍🤩🥰👌👌
Thank you very much Sallemi
I’d completely forgotten about the Moulinex company. Beautiful restoration.
Very good and very nice. I would use a plug with ground connector, cause the grinder does not have double insulation. Regards!
Hey. Good point!
Nice. Remember, you can make a vacuum chamber with and old pressure cooker and an old refrigerator compressor.
Love your work and the beers. 👍🏻🍻
Hey Juan yes I think black beard did this once.
Still spent all money on the lathe. Will have to wait a bit and then I buy next tools 😁
An excellent restoration, my only advice would be to swap you're soldering iron bit to a chisel tip so that the joint "flows" properly.
Thank you Greg. i will look what I can get
Really a nice job putting this little machine back to its glory days. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍😁🇨🇱🇺🇸
Thank you Paul as always and best regards
Less direct flame on the wire shrink wraps will work better. That is a sweet little coffee grinder and I like the color!
Perfect!! Love the paint color and finish, premium.
Excellent work! Polishing the base was a great idea, however I prefer a clear cover.
Yeah Dennis I will recast it when I have a vacuum chamber one day. I mean I have the mold now in the shelf
made my day. first i thought, meh, coffee grinder, boring. then you started actually making parts and i was hooked. HOOKED i tell you. i learned a few things. thanks for that!
that bubbly cap carries a little of the machines nostalgia better than a new and clean and transparent one.
and the test actually surprised me how well it works.
and the australian degreasing worked for me as well! i reside in south america.
my favorite kitchen stuff restauration.
I don't like coffee but even I wouldn't destroy a coffee grinder in the same way as its previous owner apparently did!
Great restoration :)
Wow richtig gut arbeit auf jeden Fall Daumen hoch ❤️👍❤️
Danke Pascal
When I try to explain to people why this is my favorite restoration channel and why each video is worth the wait, I usually start with the care and respect that is shown to everything, and how the explanations are so informative. But I always end on two things: "and they're funny!" "AND HE LITERALLY POLISHES ALL THE SCREWS!"
Nicely done, Dr. Beer. This was very enjoyable and I loved your casting work. Your filming is superb, your storytelling spot on. This was fun, thanks for sharing.
Oh Vickie that's so nice of you. Thank you so much
Great job as always, thanks, Ed
Superb restoration. For the moment I am restoring 2 latter Moulinex models.
Well done. Bravo.
Thank you Chanda
Great work 👏 I'd love to see you restore the lathe/Mill.
Maybe I will do this one day :)
Great job. Especially the new lid.
Just something about the switch. In original it is a momentary switch, not an on/off switch. ...by the way.
Best regards and stay healthy !
Hey herby I was guessing that it was a momentary, but I couldn't get it to run smoothly again and the contacts were really loose. That's why I switched the switch
Once again when you poured your beer I was drinking 'OLD SPECKLED HEN ALE' this time with a glass of 'Depth charge rum' as a chaser......................nice restoration by the way.🍺🥃
The moment when you knocked on the lid in time. 😅 Great restoration! I like the bubbles in the lid.
Stunning!
Thank you and nice to see you here again
The polished base with the mint green color was definitely the way to go on this Mid-Century Modern beauty. As a contemporary of this appliance, I wish it was this easy to re-vamp my look! Excellent job, as usual. PS: my fave Mexican beer is Modelo Negro, a dark beer.
Hey Becky. I just saw your comment. So sorry for the late reply. It is as always a joy to hear from you
@@NTRprojects not a problem. You do have a life outside of CZcams.
Great work. I really enjoyed this one from you.
Absolutely Amazing.
Genuine talent.
Outstanding bro !
Thank you my fellow
Nice publicity you did in 9gag. Will watch you video and after that will decide whether to sub or not. Nice touch you did there, turning the screen upsidedown so Australians can watch normally.
This video is great! Gonna watch his other vids
Hey Rush, let me know the final verdict, so long I'm crossing fingers, that you will stay. Best regards
@@NTRprojects After I watched the entirety of your video and liked it, can say I will look forward to your future episodes. Already subscribed, Mr. Beard
Ja okay Stephan, das gebe ich zu! Sorry :)
Gorgeous restoration! Glad you could save the switch cover! The lid is just fine...it's functional!
So far I love the shiny bottom edge, I love shiny screws, now I go back to watch more... I like the little bubbles. End results are wonderful.
Hey Nora. Glad you've seen it now even without notification. Great to hear you liked it
Beautiful and thoughtful restoration of a great and still useful appliance. Yes looking forward to the bubble free lid casting when you get your vacuum chamber!
It will come! 😊
Sehr gute Arbeit, top.👍
Besten Dank mein Freund
Absolutely love the teal color, amazing restoration
Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked it
Dear Dr Beer, this is not a terrible restoration! Love the format of your videos
Thank you very much Andreas
Love it all but have to say the lid could have been saved with [magic?] floor polish. Some guy who restores model cars makes old milky plastic windows look like factory new. But hey. It's a lovely restauration, I would want that machine.
Hey dingo, I exchanged it, because the original one had a big crack
@@NTRprojects Oh I see [well I didn't haha], could it have been glued? Nvm, my bad. Still, the polish idea might come in handy for some other day 😎?. I find your restorations one of the best, because of all the attention to detail.
@@dingo1666 Thats more than nice to hear. Thank you very very much
Marty’s Matchbox Makeovers I think is who you’re referring to.
Lots of love from 9gag!
Lots of love back
Great job, congrats on the lathe. The lid turned out even better with bubbles
Hey Olo that's nice that you liked it. Thank you as always
I love your work and your videos
From Brazil... It was just PERFECT, AMAZING...
Thank you so much Regina. Best regards back to you
Simply superb ! Bravo ! ( i smelled the coffee ;-) )
A man dedicated to his craft 🍺 and damn good with his hands too 😀
Thank you my friend
Bravo, on the restoration. Wished all machine screws looked like that. Love the color. Thanks and stay safe.
😁 I do my part to increase the number of screws
Just wonderful, thanks for sharing this beautiful restoration! And congratulations for the awesome lathe! 🙏🏼
I'm so glad I finally got the chance to add one to my workshop
This colour is amazing!!! Awesome restoration. The lid also it's great. Overall it's a truly excellent work!!! Keep it up!!!
LG Micha
Hey Kasa. Besten Dank wieder mal :)
You really outdid yourself this time. Most excellent restoration.
Nice to hear that you think so Jeff 😊
Splendid job as we have come to expect from your fine work. A+ !
Thank you my friend and have a great day
My parents had a similar one. Great job!
100% with the polished base rim. Color was perfect. Great job casting the lid, never thought about that one. Waiting for another project; excited to see what's on the table next!!!
Excellent video and restoration as always. Very impressive! Take care 😃👍🏼
Thank you as always David
I like the word "Mindful", as it was that. I Appreciate the casting of the new lid but didn't like the bubbles too much. A Technique for cleaning old plastic (Acrylic?) is to submerge it in ~35% food grade Peroxide and shine ultraviolet on it...this may have worked on this application and allowed you to restore and keep the original lid. Nice work on the paint (beautiful color) and decal!! It's always amazing to me how well old synchronous motors last...nicely done! Thanks for your story!
...tú no eres bueno nooo.... ,🏆🎖️🏅🥂. Saludos desde Barcelona Catalunya.
Again, a brilliant restoration. Thank you. The Mexican beer fared better than I expected too LOL
Love the color
Great job , really exciting for senses
I too have a Moulinex blade coffee 'chopper', that I bought trying to impress a girl on my very limited student income 23 years ago. It is still quite stylish, but the safety button on top broke, and I had to re-engineer it with a (very cut down) bike spoke and nipple. Then I got all coffee fancy, and bought a burr grinder instead. My wife uses it to chop herbs with now, which blade choppers are better at.
Great work as always. Your attention to details is exemplary.
Thank you cam. Hope you doing well
Beautiful.
Thank you John
Gostei muito dessa restauração 👏👏👏
Gostei muito que tenha gostado desta restauração
Love it ! Found out my dad also likes to Watch restorations so i Shared the link with him. Really like the vintage green and switch.
Let me know if he liked it ☺️
@@NTRprojects he finaly watched it and liked it a lot! Think he even hit the sub button
This restoration was magnificent! You did a great job. I love old electrical appliances and seeing how they work is wonderful. It's simple and efficient! 😊
Tolle Arbeit!
I can smell the results!! To be honest, the original lid had some bubbles too. The only thing I would have done different is a 3 wire cord instead of 2. While I'm from the US and you are from the EU, the principle is the same. Brown is live, Blue is neutral, and green or green & yellow is ground. perhaps a ring or fork terminal on the screw for the bottom cover would be adequate. Just so that beautiful aluminum case will never be energized. As someone who isn't a fan of most beer, what would be a good beer to try?
Hey Pooh you are right. I think I will upgrade soon. A good beer is not a challenge, but I don't know if my favorites are available in the US. Lammsbräu Helles and Budvar are really good
Great work bro and Cheers
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful job. Really great
Thank you very much Kelvin
