Hey man. I know what you’re going through with feeling like the communities hate you. I promise you there’s way more that do like your stuff than don’t, it took me a long time to see that myself but my advice is just stay off of Twitter, don’t search your name on Reddit, etc. I don’t read any of that shit anymore, I left Twitter in July 2019 and my mental health improved drastically. Keep going Nate! You’re a good dude.

I miss Hannah's videos :( I always felt like Nate the Mate and Hannah gave voice to pop-punk/emo fans on YT and there is void since they've been gone.
Yeah I did the same thing tbh. I’m never going back to Twitter again, not even to promote my concert footage. Just way too toxic for my liking

I'm sorry to hear about how things are going mentally but glad you've taken the time for you! The rise and fall videos are cool but I dig the old car stuff a lot. Excited for the future and excited to hopefully get some new insight to some new music to get into!

I like the essay videos, mostly because thanks to them I started listening to bands like Citizen or Heart Attack Man, but I'm okay with the car videos too. I'm 100% fine with it as long as you're doing what you like and what makes you feel good

I know it's basic but I always preferred your chill videos in the car or at the desk doing tier lists. I think your documentary-style videos outside the rise & fall are your best as you can feel the love and passion for the artist. Not that the Rise & Fall videos are not also great but often feel more like a statement of facts -- and as you mention, probably not worth the blowback you get for them (which is undeserved imo -- the way that Home is Where came out you honestly soured me on that band). Really all I want is for you to wish me very well.

@@NateTheMateForever Eh, it's "online hate". A lot of times when you're face-to-face, people calm down a little. There's an interview with Touch Amore and Foxing where they talk about how much they hate The Needle Drop. Thankfully they don't hate you :D

I found you through the McCafferty essay. This is such a good reminder for me and others that content doesn’t just “appear” - there are real people behind the content and they have lives and feelings. Wading through that disturbing shit, especially for as long as you had to in order to make the essay what it was (brilliant), couldn’t have been easy. It’s a testament to your character that it affected you. And I’m sure it was also upsetting to see people who continue to defend or make excuses him even after all the evidence is out in the open. I work in social media as well (IG) and it’s important for me to have people around me that remind me that I am not my content… my worth is not my content… and people who are there to just consume what I put out there and want me to do it on their terms, don’t get to define who I am. The same goes for you. I’m excited for your new journey, super proud that you’re so open about your mental health struggles and I’ll be sticking around your channel

I and many other people appreciate you and your videos. Your choice to talk about controversial band members in the scene is important. Whether its fans of said bands, or friends in the bands, youre talking about stuff that needs to to be talked about, and its shitty and unfair that those people attack you and make you feel hated by the community. Emo is a dangerous community. As much as I love the music, fans cant deny that its ripe with shitty people doing shitty things. I understand how hard it is for you, and I hope you can find a good middle ground your comfortable with, and can come back to making videos again soon.
Do what you want to do Nate. I personally dont have any irl friends to talk about Emo with, and not many people talk about the genre on social media, except for Reddit and Twitter, and lets be honest, those places arent exactly the funnest either.

While those were SUPER important, necessary, and informative, I can definitely see where they'd have really difficult fallout from certain members of the community. You're video on Charmer was the first video I ever saw. Before you, I never really cared for emo music at all. Now, I listen to pretty much just emo music. I've always adored the chill vibes you produce with your videos. Like you said, you're not Anthony Fantano, or Adam Neely; you don't know the intricacies of music as well as those guys. That's what I've enjoyed about your content. Your view on music is much much different than those guys. That video on Charmer gave me a different perspective on music, and has definitely shaped how I perceive it. Whatever comes next, I'll definitely be here for it. Hey mate. I think Charlie's content would be a great inspiration for what you could do here. And like you said, you don't have to be Fantano and know all the intricacies of music (love him!) But just being yourself, hanging out, etc. You could make short weekly videos about releases you care about, etc. The irony of car videos is that's where many people do the bulk of their listening to music haha. You could even record yourself listening and then giving your thoughts. Lots of positive ways forward from here! Sending good vibes your way 🖤
