Wanted to give my experience with this. Grew up with a lot of people who got into drugs/drinking pretty heavy so I've seen a lot of people go through it
Agree… but there is *some* level of judgement. It’s a reasonable one (based on viewing drugs as being primarily a negative thing) but negative all the same. He’s not wrong. Just point of fact.
Zack, I truly hope you understand the positive impact you have on the people who watch you brother. I have watched you on and off for what seems like ten years of my life. 33 now, I have been in some similar experiences with friends that you explained in this video. Thanks for being you my man and I hope youre doing well.
I got recommended this video at an odd point in my life. My dad passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 52 years old, and today he would have been 53 years old. For the record I’m and adult under the age of 21. He died from acute liver failure, when he was sad, he drank, and he has sad often. He struggled with addiction his whole life, and it eventually destroyed him. My roommates in college have always offered me drinks, never been pushy, but always offered. I was the only person in my friend group who never drank under any circumstance, and I don’t ever want to. I have only ever seen the worst of alcohol and drugs growing up. I saw my dad and my grandpa become shells of themselves after enough whiskey. I saw my parent’s marriage collapse as a result of secretive drinking. I now have seen my dad lifeless, yellow in the skin and eyes, and bloated because of alcohol. I can’t ever make my kid’s choices, but I will tell them about their grandpa, and I will tell them of alcohol. They will know that alcohol is poison, even though most people drink it. They will know that it is addictive, and that nobody is safe from the negative effects. And they will know that because of alcohol, and misuse of it, that they will never get to know their grandpa.
I'm sorry to hear that. I drink sometimes, but I highly regulate it. I've never been drunk, just a light buzz at most. When it comes to drinking, it's important not to overindulge. Unfortunately there's no middle ground when it comes to drugs though. Best to stay away from them altogether.
Same situation as you here. My dad was claimed by alcohol last December at the age of 55, and I was 23. My uncle died years earlier due to a heart attack. Both of them were avid drinkers and smokers, and they both were miserable with broken lives due to their addictions.
@@infinitedeath1384 Alcohol is a drug, bro ;p And it's as easy or hard to regulate as many other drugs. Easy for some, near-impossible for others. You never know until it's too late, unfortunately.
@@catbert7 I know, but people don't generally call alcohol a drug in conversations, because when people talk about drugs, they usually means cocaine, meth, tobacco etc...
totally possible, my grandpa was born in 39 and said he started drinking by 45 lol. And man he was a trooper, he drank 4 shots of whiskey daily, 10 beers, smoked and chewed tobacco daily...didn't die of cancer until 78. That's a goddamn miracle as far as I'm concerned.
@@hentaidude666 I think you're missing something. Those drug addicts are atheists mostly. I would say all of em. Giving points to atheist because of that is laughable.
@@hxsm8090not even saying this from an atheist perspective but that's a rather bold claim. That's almost at the level of being propaganda. That is by no means true and saying that is very closed minded. There are plenty of religious that are drug addicts. Not defending or attacking people here, just saying that is a pretty off base claim.
You like thinking about how much of your life and money you have wasted due to drugs? You would love my brain if that's the case lmao. Can we switch plesr

@@SawGudman it's okay, I'm not mad @ myself for it. I wish things had gone differently but I definitely wouldn't have the strength I have today, if not for my struggles in my youth
I’ll share my personal story…my dad was an alcoholic when I was a kid and I lost my mom in a car accident always promised myself I would never drink. Had a beautiful girl and my life was together…start of the pandemic I felt alone and started drinking…long story short I lost the love of my life and my life turned into nuclear disaster(was not violent towards her or put hands on her or any of that domestic crap just wasn’t there for the important things that she really needed her other half there for). Thankfully yesterday mark s 1 year of being completely sober. I will not touch alcohol for the rest of my life. I whole heartily agree with this guy!!!!! Live for the small things in life because nothing else matters but love. Thanks for sharing man!
I've been a heroin addict and drug addict in general my entire life. I have wasted my entire youth and adult life thus far by following the the dangerous paths that you had outlined early on in the video (jail, rehab, homelessness, rinse repeat --> death being wildcard) You literally have a vast knowledge of addiction and understand it more than most and you have my respect for releasing this video and giving your community the harsh truth of reality, and I know it's a awkward subject for most of the younger guys... Let me tell you you guys.. I have been to many jails, and even prison. I'm 30 years old... I have lost all my friends, family, and valuable along with having to sell my PC multiple times to fund my addiction. I wouldn't wish such a harsh reality on my worst enemy. I am lucky enough to still be waking up everyday but most of my friends that I once had rather are in prison, or dead.. Most of which are dead unfortunately. Stick to weed guys.. Stay the hell away from those bars, percs, and any and all manmade dangerous drugs for that matter. Minus bud, and maybe shrooms? Just know that you keep dabbling with these substances and the next thing you know you're going to be sitting in a room within a pod with 75 other men, showering, shitting, sleeping, eating etc with no privacy in front of all these fucking noobs 24/7... Gaming is an addiction too guys... I can't tell you how many people i've met at LAN centers back in the day that I became friends with that have ended up with a terrible substance problem such as heroin like myself. You all have addictive peronalitys and need to acknowledge this within yourself and not make the terrible decisions that I have. I'm not going to give my sob story any longer but I'm writing this comment to show my respect to not only asmon, but to all you young men that need to take this topic seriously... You think that it won't be you or it can't happen to you... I assure you it will and can be.. Stay safe my dudes
I battled a coke addiction from about 22-25. I'm 27 now and finally getting my shit together, but it took me almost losing everything and everyone in my life. I'm not sure how it compares to a heroin addiction because I never needed it so badly that I spent my rent money or bill money on it, but literally every extra dollar I had went to coke and booze. Even though I payed my rent and shit I also sold a lot of shit to feed that addiction. Very very few people can dabble once in a while as a fun thing and keep it under control, but the huge majority cant, and although you might think you have a grip on it, it's a very slippery slope and extremely easy to lose control. Stay safe my friends.
People always make the mistake of thinking they are stronger and ''just once is harmless''. I also think that people that haven't seen the worst of drugs addiciont are usually more inclined to try it for some reason
Very eloquently put as always. A lot of people who don't drink like to parade that over people but quitting for yourself is one of the most admirable things a person can do

I was a stoner for years and recently stopped completely, not even intentionally, just stopped enjoying it, and I have to say I enjoy sobriety far more than I thought I would. I wasn't dysfunctional on weed or anything like that, I held down a job, graduated college etc. But I got tired of being stoned and not wanting to go out with friends because I was high and wanted to stay in. I was tired of avoiding social situations because I was high and paranoid. I dated girls who loved smoking weed and going out, but I refused to, which caused problems in the relationship. Life is far more enjoyable when you aren't limiting yourself like that.
Literally just did the same bro, plus my son is 5 now and just really don't wanna be that way around him. I quit drinking and doing hard drugs 9 years ago so weed was always my escape. Not saying I'll never not have a puff again but not a few days a week or everyday type of thing!
It's just weed. If you really smoked that much you would gain a tolerance and it wouldn't fuck you up anymore lol. Christ I can smoke weed and go run a few miles on the treadmill, you're just being dramatic in my opinion.
@@GoodfellasX21 I know stoners who take multiple dabs a day and will still dab up and be absolutely obliterated sitting in the corner, red eyes etc. I used to do that too. Tolerance will only get you so far in terms of weed having less of an effect, if you're dabbing 90% pure rosin I don't care how much of a tolerance you claim to have, you're going to get F'd up. But in terms of "being dramatic", pretty sure I have a better idea of how weed affects me than you do. It makes me paranoid and go non-verbal. If that's not your experience, that's fine, but no need to belittle others based on their experiences.
Min max into fast food. Viable strat, no prep time on eating, lots of variation in foods throughout playthrough and if born with high metabolism special perk, no weight gain debuff to worry about. If player has appropriate funding, Easily breaks into low A tier.
Yea but the fast food tree just replaces prep time with drive time unless you unlock the Grubhub/Doordash/Ubereats talent but then it transfers drive time into a currency debuff that stacks with the fast food currency debuff.
This is very true. Games release dopamine just like drugs. They can be just as addictive and destructive. At least it's hard to overdose on wow, but staying up all night playing can be very unhealthy. My friend really messed up his life on wow. Parents made him stop playing, he would steal credit cards to play, also skipped school to stay home and play.
I wouldn't agree with that. I play wow for many years, but with many pauses like every second month or for more than half of year etc. WoW never pulled me to play like the drugs pull you to take them. Besides wow is a social game that helps you in life if you meet some good people that become your friends. I just can't compare wow to drugs.
I have played WOW for as long as it has been out there with my kids and every which way. There was a stretch of time, early on, during vanilla, BC and Lich King when I felt addicted to it. Maybe it was the gear chase, arena or newness of it. The rush of an expansion. For a while I was on all day. But the addiction just didn't last. Just like my kids did, I just played less. The game became less interesting over time - probably a good thing. They might have crapped up the game too and maybe that's why they added Classic. I tried Classic but it didn't do anything for me - I had moved past it. Right now I am content to get on Shadowlands and BFA occasionally for relaxation and play some old content but it doesn't need to be an obsession.

Man, I needed to see your video, I was addicted to hard drugs two years ago, i lost a job and had to live on a friend's couch for two months to get clean and find another job to sustain myself, the funny thing is after you get clean, you are always tempted to use them again, I ended up spending my first salary with drugs and since then I started doing therapy to find out why exactly I was doing drugs in the first place, therapy saved my life. Nowadays it's really hard to explain to other people why drugs are not cool because it's so normalized in society and sometimes even reinforced and also because people get really defensive about it.
I agree, I have never been attracted to drinking because I have no illusion of it being a glamorous past-time thanks to growing up with a violent alcoholic grandfather. I honestly think they should start taking young teens to visit hardcore alcoholics and see and hear about their life... great deterrent in that.
Once when I was a kid around elementary school, I got baited by my friends to smoke cuz they told me that this smoke tastes chocolate, I cough at first like any noob smoker and for that reason I never tried it again coz I was not good at it plus I tasted better chocolate than that one. Ty for making this video, I live alone and have been fighting alcoholism for 15+ years, I'm 40 atm. Alcohol withdrawal is horrible and very deadly. Thank you for this video. I quit drinking and smoking last year, because I lost my best friend who I was with in rehab for 2 and a half years due to his heroin addiction that lead to him committing suicide. And it’s been a really hard time for me with out him because I was the only one to help him try and get his life together after the program. And it still hurts my soul to this day that he’s gone. He was only 28 years old. And we spent every day together. I know I’m meant to be a mentor in some way shape or form God just hasn’t shown the road I’m supposed to take yet. My best friends dad is an alcoholic and has been our whole lives growing up and he lost everything including his family, his wife, his job, and his car. My ex girlfriends mom is a heroin addict and it’s hard to see that in real time. I told myself I will never go down that road, because I know there’s a bigger purpose in life than to drink and do drugs. I’m almost 39 and I’ve never been drunk or high, I’ve never done weed either. For me, I grew up in a hellish abusive environment.. my step dad was abusing me while my mom drank till she was black out drunk and ignored what was happening, my aunt was also a raging alcoholic. I saw from a very young age the effects of booze and I decided early on I wanted nothing to do with it. As I got older I started to notice the addictive trait in myself, I became highly addicted to caffeine and even now at almost 40 I’ve never been able to kick it. I made a conscious decision when I was a teen to never touch drugs, for someone like myself it could only take me down a dark path that I’d probably never make it out of. I think it’s helped me face and heal from my trauma in much healthier ways, the effect of drugs are temporary.. they feel good in the short term but you will never get better self medicating in that way, it’s just an endless loop until you’re either in jail or dead. I didn’t want that for myself.. for me, it was sheer stubbornness of not wanting to let my step father win.. I wanted to live a beautiful life to spite that cunt and I fucking did it. I’ve lived in the midst of addiction and I fully understand how hard it is and anyone dealing with it has my full sympathy and support. ❤️
I only smoke weed. As a Child i learned alcohol is like heroin when you are addicted. It's way harder to handle of you want to be sober. Alcohol is so normal and Overall. Alcohol and pharmaceutics are the worst and they are legal...
Something tells me that I haven't faced nearly the same level of abuse you have - that sounds vile beyond reckoning - but I did, at least, have the opportunity to see the effects these things can have. My father was an alcoholic in terms of addiction, though he was never violent, but it still caused a strain on my parents' marriage. My mother barely drank until I was in my early teens, then it felt as though Pandora's box opened. She would binge something terrible. Once, she sliced open her arm in a depressive state and I had to bandage it and call the hospital. I'd act as a counsellor and pour my heart out to her only to not have her remember a single word the next morning. Other times she would be like Jekyll and Hyde and become impossible to reason with, going so far as to try and throw me out of the house. Police or ambulance staff were called multiple times, only to end up with her knocking on the door at 3-4 in the morning because she'd escaped from a hospital waiting room. I tend to drink in small amounts. I dislike the notion of having my state of consciousness altered by anything other than my own volition and I decided that in childhood. The most I will stretch to is meditation, hypnosis or very light drinking. I don't take any other substances. I did try weed once at a LAN, largely due to peer pressure, then again years later when visiting a friend. To be honest, I couldn't really tell much of a difference, and I'd rather not have it on my lungs. If I do have an addiction or a vice, it's more likely to be gaming than anything else. But at least that way I'm not dragging everyone around me into the spiral, and I don't have a physiological dependency. You sound like a strong person, and I'm glad you were able to succeed in spite of injustices you neither asked for nor could control.
I love that Zack says "I don't know if that's a good thing" in reference to being sober. It just shows humility and make a guy like me who smokes too much weed able to maybe think about being sober too cause he phrases it a way that isn't I AM RIGHT YOU ARE WRONG!- ty asmon you help me a lot

I didn't finish the video the first time, and I just wanted to say genuinely from the bottom of my heat as a former Heroin addict who's been trying to be clean off and on since February 2018 and has a continuous year clean on May 8th. This video touches me in a special spot. I appreciate this. Every kid in highschool needs to hear this speech from whatever influencer or internet personality is relevant to them.

Ayo, coming from someone who is currently dealing with alcoholism to a fair extent I agree fully with the message of this video. Be strong if you need help and avoid drugs and alcohol of you havnt done them or are dabbling
I work with people that have no sympathy for addicts and I've tried to explain to them that you make a bad decision, sometimes only once, and then your life is changed. You now have an itch - a mental itch - that can only be scratched in one way. Have you ever tried ignoring an itch? It gets unbearable. Every recovering or recovered addict has to ignore an itch for the rest of their lives and I'm glad Asmond recognizes that these people should be supported instead of shunned.
It’s a real shame how some people couldn’t care less about addiction. Sure, it’s not their problem, but I find it hard to believe they would feel the same way if it was a close family member.
Not with most drugs though tbh, the typical alcohol, cigarettes, weed, you're not going to get addicted to them because you did them once. Doesn't mean that it changes much the amount of times, the reason you do something once is the same you do the 2nd time...

When it comes from the heart its easy as shit to talk, even as someone with crippling anxiety I am still able to talk better than most when it comes to things I genuinely understand and enjoy talking about. It’s the same principles for learning, the smartest in any field is likely to be someone incredibly passionate about their work, someone who is happy when learning or sharing what they love. If you love something you probably find yourself studying it unintentionally, watching videos or reading articles in your free time. Listening to asmon on any podcast has been incredible, unlike most on the shows he appears on he rarely has anything stupid to say, always adding value without reading off of google or making it about politics. Straight up saying things as they are and giving his genuine thoughts instead of defaulting to media standards.

Thanks for being you my man and I hope youre doing well.
Damn i dont know why that video show up to me, just did a cocaine and cant sleep im 32 and i really want to stop that shit
Sorry for your loss. Stay strong.

Thank you bro. I really needed to hear that
these drugs are being put in western countries on purpose
Shrooms are really bad for you if you end up overusing them... i would say just stick to weed.

The goal is to get high lol. Most people aren’t thinking more about “stopping” as a goal
the truth is most people don't become addicted to alcohol or weed. Some people, yes, but everyone can become addicted to anything. It depends on the person. Me and everyone I know who smokes has stopped before and didn't have a problem with it for when they did.

My mom was a terrible alcoholic, I feel this comment. I hate alcohol now and don’t like being around ppl who do it.
I agree, I have never been attracted to drinking because I have no illusion of it being a glamorous past-time thanks to growing up with a violent alcoholic grandfather. I honestly think they should start taking young teens to visit hardcore alcoholics and see and hear about their life... great deterrent in that.
It’s easier to make that change as an adult. When you’re a teen and your best friends go down that path, it can be really hard.
Once when I was a kid around elementary school, I got baited by my friends to smoke cuz they told me that this smoke tastes chocolate, I cough at first like any noob smoker and for that reason I never tried it again coz I was not good at it plus I tasted better chocolate than that one. I think consider myself lucky that it didnt become an addiction or doesnt have nicotine in it that could turn any person to get addicted.

Once I did break my drinking fast I instantly regretted it. It just wasn't worth it. My sleep quality was terrible; waking up every few hours, feeling too hungover sick to play with my kids. It just wasn't working, so I stopped entirely. The first two weeks of quitting drinking is the most difficult, after that all my cravings went away. This young gentlemen is absolutely correct in his assessment.

Stay strong and hopeful, you are amazing!🙏🏽
What do you mean by your Step Dad was abusing you? Abuse covers a wide range of things, and I don't like to assume the worse...
something like shrooms could really help with any passed trauma they are used in therapeutic purposes and are slowly getting legalized for use

@@happiness7808 Same, I've been burning through my stashes way too fast lately so think I'm going to start doing 3-4 days smoking then 3-4 days not smoking/ only smoking cbd.

Studies have actually shown the primary reason for drug habits are boredom and socializing. Good luck finding a straight edge man without a family.
You found one👍
Wish I heard this 20 years ago. Maybe things would be different. Good for u man, especially putting it out there like this for younger folks.
I'm 18, haven't drank, done any drugs or smoked anything including a vape. I'm very grateful.
Good for you man, it has destroyed many lifes around me. Keep doing you and don’t touch that nonsense

@@Kain1805 do u mean drugs? If so ur dead wrong my man I'm a nurse in a rehab clinic and back in the day I grew up in Maas during the very beginnings of the opioid crisis and during its height which is the min reason I moved to Europe. AFter 15 plus funerals enough is enough. I don't judge him.fornit I'm a big fan played wow religiously watching that MN and I love him. It's just I have. Problem ich being dishonest but one own use...cause that always causes problems for one self nd others once they find outbthe truth which always happens eventually...there' plenty of comment that have seen nd claimed the same thing i did but asmon. Either way take it easy and have good.one. we all.blindly assume until we know first hand...just the human condition nothing wrong with that. Unless one is unwilling to learn and out of spite sticking to your guns.
I love revisiting this video every few months
What a great guy.
I'm glad you aren't a sheep, and weren't led to do things that you weren't interested in.
Whatever the reasons why, you didn't do them. That's pretty damned great in my books.
Respect.
I just quit smoking weed everyday for 7 years and its been extremely hard and when you said you're here for us I almost started crying, It's extremely difficult, thanks for the video and support.
I feel you man you can do it! Tea really helped me during my detox honestly. Not like tetley i mean real tea from a holistic store.
@@jakecarroll5 Thanks man I'll give it a try, got some already just forgot about tea haha specially great in the winter :) Still sober bois!
Gone about 2 months now. Same as you. Daily smoker for 7 years. The biggest thing that helped was distractions so you don't think about it for too long. Find a girlfriend that doesn't smoke. That's a great distraction. 😉
Same here. Smoked for 10 years and now I'm clean and happier than ever. The first few weeks are the hardest part then you don't miss it at all.
@@---kk7rq I still find myself longing for a fat bat, but I aint gone do it, don't ever want to go through that first week again.
