The aero gel was actually a pretty neat idea :)
So this is totally crazy, I'm the 2nd rider of the pair in the stock footage at 5:20. I was just watching along and all of a sudden, I see...myself!!! It's especially surprising because despite having raced many years, I am by no means an elite racer, and I have never seen this clip before.
The rider ahead and I were extremely dropped in this clip, the course is notorious for being essentially straight up and down, consisting of a very steep and short climb, followed long and less-steep climb, followed by a hair-raising descent. All in all, that quickly whittles down the field over the course of 20 or so laps.
The race is 2015 Stillwater Criterium in Minnesota. This amateur race used to be held every year in conjunction with the North Star Grand Prix pro race, F.K.A. the Nature Valley Grand Prix; the race went defunct in 2018. This criterium was the final stage of the pro race, and only stage of the grand prix with amateur races preceding the pro race--it was very special to get to have a race on the same course as the pros!
I suppose given how many cameras there are at events, it makes sense how this happened. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Cycling Highlights.

Tramadol isn't a simple painkiller, it has multiple metabolites that act on several systems including noradrenaline. It can be a strong stimulant. I had back pain that limited me to working half days, or confined to bed. On tramadol, suddenly I was doing full work days then coming home and doing 6 to 8 hours of vigorous project work. Every day. I hardly felt like I needed to eat or sleep and I just felt really motivated to push myself hard. This is a far better reason for it to be banned. (edit: beware, this effect only lasted a few weeks in the honeymoon period. Then the pain broke through, and even a maximum dose didn't kill the pain. You quickly burn out. There's no "free lunch", that energy came from somewhere and you pay the price. All the "up" you feel, has an equal rebound of "down". Don't use that junk, go natural. Fish oil, vitamin C mega dose. Fuel the body with real fuel, get your fitness up.)

Femke didn't get caught USING a motor, but there was a motorized bike in her pit area. Not saying she didn't cheat, but she didn't get caught doing it. Still a huge violation.

There have also been made rules for TT-bikes. Indurain had a super-aerodynamic one, called 'la espada', the sword or blade, with which he could cut through the air and make a difference with his opponents with 3 or 5 minutes, depending on the length of the TT. For the world hour-record-attempts it's become the same. Bikes have to meet the specifications of the UCI.
A couple of years ago, Cannondale EF Pro was fined for their team kits. Those kits looked awesome too.

In Australia it's illegal to take tramadol and operate any vehicle.

I agree most of the rules that should be regulated and banned to make it fair for every athlete. But some activities have nothing to do with cheating such as adjusting your saddle angle, stem length, etc., those are just technical adjustment according to your physical anatomy to improve your chance of winning. When you bought your guitar, you want to put on a quality strings & you have to adjust it to make it sounds perfect according to your own ears.

This guy is funny but his reporting is less than accurate and super-biased. There’s no nuance…and if anything the world of doping and cheating is so very nuanced. For example, Pedro Delgado did not take a banned substance in the tour (Probenicid). It was perfectly legal to take that in the tour but not in Olympic events. They read from the wrong list of banned substances. But the UCI leaked it as if he failed. Maybe it was to make him sweat a little? Probenicid can be used as a masking agent. That’s the nuance of doping. Pedro Delgado was rightly exonerated. Non of the 80s drugs could make up for good genetics. It’s post EPO 1991-present. Pedro Delgado would have won the 1988 if everyone else dope except him. That’s how strong he was.
