BLAME McDAVID OR CREDIT CANUCKS FOR HIS LACK OF PRODUCTION?

- The Canucks had their best players step up in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead against the Oilers and once again, the team was able to shut down Connor McDavid. TSN Hockey Insider Frankie Corrado credits JT Miller's game for being the reason why McDavid hasn't been able to get it going at 5on5 play.

Is this series over for the Oilers? Or will McDavid and company force a Game 7?

Game 7
As a Canucks fan I hope the Canucks can close it out but that’s not how this series as gone
It’ll be a one goal game again either way, but I think Vancouver pulls it out.
Biggest mistery since the pyramids is where the respect went for canucks
Nah, Oilers in 9
Vancouver did the same thing to McDavid during the regular season. Seems those games mattered after all. And Frank is one of those experts who thought the Canucks were overmatched. He should own that.
Just wanna say, every single game this series has been insanely close. Those regular season games only mattered in terms of scouting and coaching
@@bradbradford8576 they mattered in the sense that Vancouver clearly could and has played the Oilers well and were able to show those regular season match-ups were not a fluke. They also clearly mattered because what they did against McDavid in the regular season obviously worked and continues to work against McDavid. He's now been largely ineffective against them in 7 out of 8 games. No way that's not significant.
When the Canucks play as a connected unit like last night, nobody can beat them. Excellent coaching and team effort.
Best game they've played so far.
That could be said about pretty much any team in any sport.
@@dannycarlow8204 No it couldn't. Vancouver's coaches have done a phenomenal job getting this group to play as a unit and buy into their system . Vancouver has the best coaching trio in the league.
@@Roman-re1yg So you honestly think Vancouver is the best team in the league? You're crazy. The Canucks have been my team for decades, but I live in reality. You should come visit sometime. Vancouver does not beat every team when both are at their best. Edmonton wasn't nearly their best last night and Van barely slipped by.
@@dannycarlow8204 LMFAO did I say they were the best team in the league? I said they have the best coaching staff in the league. What's your problem?
I saw three charges in the Canucks after goal celebration
😂😂
Oiler fans have no excuses this time. 5 power plays chances, went 0/5 a 3rd stringer goalie in net and 23 shots on net.
NHL is rigged going to game 7
@@ryonious4564 every oiler fan. Oilers in 4, Canucks win, Oilers in 5, canucks win Oilers in 6. Lol
@@user-ek6rl5ht5v I don't know any Oiler fan who's ever said that. The fact that people are calling the Canucks underdogs seems ridiculous to me. How are division champs ever underdogs? lol
@@ocramocram1EVERYONE including Oilers fans thought they would stream role the Canucks because apparently we had a hard time with Nashville. All on the sports analyst said oil in 5 or 6 on TV. Odds makers were giving Vancouver 16-1 at one point?
@@syncronized77 Lol. Not in my circle of friends. Maybe stay off the message boards. Haha
McDavid and Leon look exhausted! fatigue starting to show
Thank you! Finally someone comes out and says, hey, maybe these Canucks are good. Up until now, everyone talks about the other team choking or the star player not producing. I don’t blame McDavid, the guy will have a huge x on his back because they know he is a great player. He’s also out on the ice way too long. Edmonton’s lack of depth is a problem.
What team deserves to proceed in the playoffs that can rarely play a balanced full 60? Vancouver owned them and the officiating was atrocious in Edmonton's favor. As an Oiler fan with such horrible cap management this might be as good as it gets. Pickard was good. Edmonton will fold next game Vancouver seems to want it more.
i have to agree man, the only way we keep mcrdrai is if we pay them 14M and then we really are screwed in terms of cap. i hope to god they take a team friendly deal (they will not and likely go somewhere else) so that we don’t have to be sent back into despair. you cannot recover from losing 2 players like that
MASSIVE HOMER
Tocc has to be the best coach left in the playoffs right now. He's a big reason, if not the biggest that we have been so effective at neutralizing the Oilers' top guys with the players that we have. McD held shotless in game 1. Hyman with no goals and 1 assists since the end of game 1. Forcing the top forwards to play as many as 30 minutes and forcing Knoblauch to overload his secondary players. And now that the top forwards look like they're running out of gas in this series, we finally mustered 30 or more shots on goal for the first time in literally a month (last game: 31 SOG vs. Calgary on April 16th). This is the type of situation where your coach can literally dictate the course of the game, and that's exactly what he's done in all five games so far. He's taken a series where we've been the overall worse team (albeit not by a whole lot) in four out of five games, and gotten us out of it with two more wins than we should have on paper. You could argue that he's been our #1 player in this series.
Blatant charge by Petey on miller at the end there…
Hahaha. Look it up in the rule book. It’s there! Lol
Should’ve had him suspended for the rest of the series. How dare he charge at Miller???
@GreenRob1234 the refs have been letting calls go and missing calls the entire series but then they decide to call THAT? People who have watched hockey their whole lives have never seen somthing like that happen. Jumping to absorb a hit from someone bigger then you coming at you at full speed is not charging by any common sense
2:47
Credit the Canucks for McDavid's offensive struggles. Blame McDavid for McDavid's defensive struggles. The Canucks aren't the reason that McDavid refuses to cover anyone in his own zone.
Blame Knoblauch for taxing Draisaitl and McDavid for nearly 30 minutes in games 2 and 3 now fatigue is starting to show.
McDavid has been invisible in this series. If he was what they say he is he wouldn’t get neutralized as this person suggests he is. Great players find a way and McDavid isn’t finding away. He didn’t take the man going to the and was scored on.
Do you want to win or not?
Canucks haven't lost twice in a row, have been underdogs since Game 2 against Nashville, and have tied the game 6 times now when trailing after 2. All but 1 analyst picks Edmonton. They've been crushing the narrative, and imagine if they get through this and have Demko for the WCF. If the team that showed up in Game 5 sticks around, anyone playing them is in trouble.
The man ran out of gas, watching the CANUCKS 💪skate fast, EP40 with a GREAT PASS!! 💯
Credit Canucks, what a game 5!
The Canucks have been playing amazing all year. And they've brought that right into the pist season. Credit the entire team for playing with a ❤️ and soul.
No one is to 'blame'. How about a nod to the Canucks?
Canucks had their regular season record for a reason, yes.
23/24 TSN analysts are clueless
No one wants Mcdavid to win a cup so I hope he continues his lacklustre play
Canucks have been playing team first hockey all playoffs, at times it hasn't looked the best offense wise but defense wins championships.
Blame his team mates for not trying harder to get open ice so he can make a good pass. He only has 3 canucheads on him
Cory Perry is the biggest letdown of the playoffs for the oilers. He was supposed to be MR PLAYOFFS with all his experience and veteran savvyness. He's been utterly useless
Am I the only one who noticed that every team he is loses in the playoffs?
Quite popular with the players wife's though.
It's probably because the Oiler players have ugly moms.
He was alright earlier in the series almost scored once. I agree he's been invisible after that brief good period tho
@@player9117 they like his "worm"
The oils are a one line team . A good one line but they are getting tired.
I've been saying.. the series is a Hockey team VS a powerplay unit (and some refs)
Frank Seravalli is under qualified to be a sports analyst
Ya I don't get how this guy is all of a sudden "the insider". His takes are terrible and he REFUSES to adjust given current information. He just tries to come up with excuses or twist his own words as to how his original take was actually correct even though the exact opposite of his take occured. Has he ever even played the game (not that it is necessary)? He just seems like a nobody throwing out his opinion.
Mcheated driveway is toast
McDavid a big dog until he plays the canucks 😂
Now they know what its like to play a real team not like LA kings lol
The Oilers definitely need to keep McDavid and Draisaitl on different lines in order to spread their offense around.
It's not over.
The Coilers, Cry to win strategy, is disgusting. Just look at their coach. ALWAYS ready to cry, there's not a moment that goes by that he isn't ready to release the water works. The hockey gods won't stand for this filth. They never have, they never will.
I was hoping Oilers would take the series in 5, but McDavid and top players are playing too many minutes and are getting grinded out.
And Skinner was awful at times, which cost the Oilers the opportunity to get wins earlier in the series. Now Picard has to try and bail the team out. This is management's fault though; they chose to roll with Skinner.
Is TSN starting to admit Canucks should win this series? 4-0 against the Oilers during the season, more regular season points. Not surprised the Canucks are winning. In fact, if anything, I'm surprised the Canucks haven't already closed this series out. BTW, I neither lie or dislike either team.
Miller is the real captain!
I'd say both teams are still in it and pretty sure we will see a much better push from McDavid if they come out hard it's there's to win always thought this could be a game 7 series I mean every game is decided by one goal if oilers power play didn't have a collapse last night it easily could have been a 4 to 1 game even 5 to 1 but it's playoffs and anything can happen I do want oilers to win but if it doesn't happen will be on Vancouver to win cup and I'm pretty sure that what ever one of these teams wins has a good chance for cup unless Bateman whatever his name is pulls any b.s like what seems to happen every year are last good chance I think was the Montreal Canadiens with Perry and Eric Stall and Carry Price was a monster they made it to cup final only to have Carry Price get rammed by other team taking him out for rest of series and Montreal Canadiens had a great chance they were riding a super hot goaltender Carry Price who was unbelievable in there run and when other team took Price out for rest of series the air just came out you could feel it there back up was young not much experience and just couldn't keep them wair Price had them ask Perry about that run Montreal brought him and Eric Stall in for the playoff run and if they would not have lost Price to a b.s play by other team they would have won the cup that year Price was standing on his head entire playoffs but we still have oil and Vancouver so we still have a chance
JT Miller reminds me of Kawhi Leonard when he shut down LeBron James
Any team that doesn’t have depth and is solely reliant on 1 to 3 guys to do all the work, doesn’t belong in the playoffs.
You can’t compete with the world’s elite when your ONLY workhorses get shut down and the rest of the team can’t pick up the slack. It’s why the Rangers are so dangerous this year, every line has hard workers and depth scoring. One line gets shut down, another scores. Oilers just don’t have that.
Blame Oiler management for constructing a thin subpar team
Correct. Front office is to blame
Leafs fan here. McDavid is not the problem here. The Oilers had how many years to build a solid team around this superstar? And what are they lacking?
1. Goaltending
2. Blue Liners
3. Deepness
McDavid is the best NHL player of our time. And the Oilers IMO have cheaped out on filling up their roster.
Right on the money. If anyone can understand the failure to build a winning team, it's a Leafs fan.
Hmmm I wonder what is happening here... the best and most consistent producer in the league for years is having problems producing, and he isn't injured or sick. He must just not be as good all of a sudden. What a loser. Vancouver is basically containing a toddler
it's not just production. He has been good, other than the last game.
Roll the lines. Win as a team or lose as a team. Roll
I credit the management team and Tocchet first. The Canucks could easily have had a wasted year and done nothing noteworthy without Tocchet's coaching, Ian Clark's work with the goalies, the plethora of trades and signings management. I trust they will make the right decisions with Hronek, Lindholm and Joshua when the time comes.
I'll go even further and credit ownership for hiring Jim Rutherford -> Patrick Allvin -> Rick Tocchet -> Adam Foote, and yes Ian Clark.
They have built a playoff strong D core with Zadorov, Soucy, Hronek, Myers and Cole to support the ever talented but size limited Hughes. Bringing in Lindholm was a playoff move. And although Petterson has never been a guy I thought would excel in the playoffs, the depth of this team that management has created buffers any under performance by an individual player. The Oilers are a talented team but lack depth and goaltending. Cup winners need both.
@@mccullochmike I forgot about Adam Foote (and Sedins!), but I was including Rutherford and Allvin in the management team. I had no hesitation saying I was smarter than Benning, but I believe current management is smarter than anyone else out there.
Credit Canucks.
Blame the golden boy? No chance. Mcdavid could be -1000 and it wouldn’t be his fault.
Go Canucks Go 🔥🔥
No room to skate =no connor mcdavid. His advantage is speed ao if you cant wind it up you are iniffective at best.
all the idiots are counting their chickens early
Im a Canucks fan i see oilers always having a good start but cant seem to get it going in the 3rd period its like tbey get shutdown
The funny thing is, it was the total opposite during the regular season, they where the best third period team in the league.
Listen to these guys man now they're saying oh Canucks won because McDavid just had a couple of bad games this is crazy man
Really to blame McD the Canucks played a good game .
Playing 30 min a game is alot of hard hockey
Offence sells seats in regular season, defence wins play offs.
Draisaitl going to boston next year when they lose in 6 vs canuks. EDM fked up with all those 1st picks, start the rebuild
What was it, 23/24 reporters picked the Oilers over the Canucks?
McDavid is 2nd in the league next to Drai and you actually have the audacity to say he has “lack of production” ????
You’re not understanding
You already hear oilers fans say the oilers played bad Bouchard this McDavid that. How about the Canucks are a scary team, I don't know why I thought this would only be 4 or 5 games.
The Canucks aren't scary....they're decent but aren't scary or even close to elite...
@dwightstorie1242 pettersson hasn't been involved a 3rd string goalie in net. I would say that's impressive.
@@ToyMakerprops what???....restructure post to make sense
@dwightstorie1242 canucks don't have their vezina caliber goalie in net. He's injured. Elias pettersson is not putting up points or goals and the team is still winning. I would say that's impressive. I can't make it any easier for you than that.
@ToyMakerprops they get run out of the rink in 4-5 next round....not elite
Dallas, Colorado, New York, Florida, and possibly Vegas and Boston are elite.
Canucks second tier...
97 doesn't want to shoot the puck and that's his problem. 29 has carried this time big time thus far. About time 97 shows why he's won multiple trophies that aren't the stanley cup
No, 97's problem is #9 hasn't been giving him any time and space to shoot the puck
@@benh8199 I don't think he's talking about this series specifically because this year McDavid was down close to a hundred shots from his 63 goal season last year when he had the most shots of his career.
Not sure why Edmonton was favored?
Credit canucks and the fact the oilers habe one line and theyre playing far too much each game. Thats not sustainable.
Canucks defended well hard to do anything when you g t defended like that.
The delusion! Nucks worked for it homie!
Canucks fans are ecstatic because their team finally showed some promise in one game of the series. Their current 3-2 lead can largely be attributed to Skinner's poor play earlier on. However, there's a strong likelyhoood that the Canucks will regress back to their norm, while the Oilers will likely perform at their peak in Game 6.
Yea, look forward to seeing the Canucks regress back to their norm of...sweeping the Oilers
User…you sound like all the oilers in the post game interviews. Especially your coach never give credit to the other team when they lose. Listen to tocchets post game interviews and all the other players. Always praising the other team when it’s due. Big difference.
If you’re talking about past years when you say the norm( different team by the way) then fair enough I guess. But if you’re talking about this year, the norm has been winning and really good defence has been really good for checking and team defense. Have not played the norm yet until last night I agree. Playing the norm is not good for Oilers. Trust me.
Also, the norm for the Oilers has been not winning in the postseason despite having two generational players. Forget about draisaitl. Name me a great generational player in the past who has not won a Stanley Cup or multiples by now besides McDavid, it’s unheard of isn’t it. Can’t even do it with McDavid? How many cups has Crosby won? How many cups has Gretzky won? How many cups has Lemieux won? He is on all of their levels yet can’t even win a couple rounds. If you aren’t gonna use him, let another team have him. What a waste.
??? The norm for the Canucks this year is sweeping them and finishing higher in the standings.
Without McDavid the sOilers don't make the playoffs.
Blame knob for juggling lines at end of game.
Here we go again with these narratives 🙄
he is obviously playing injured, maybe u can credit canucks for the injury but nothing else

Easy. Credit Canucks.
Edmonton lacks goaltending, they lack bottom 4 defensive pairs, the lack any scoring outside of their power play. Not entirely sure how they can be called cup favorites.
The entire EDM team was garbage. Any other team would've won that game. They played for 20 minutes, took a 2-1 lead, and took the rest of the night off.
They weren't good enough past years. They made no significant changes so they aren't good enough again and a real contender is putting them in their place.
Mcbaby is overrated 😂😂😂😂😂GO CANUCKS GO GO CANUCKS GO GO CANUCKS GO

LOL @ first clip of miller blatantly holding mcdavid with no call.
This whole series I'm pretty sure the soilers have been in possession of the Canucks' players sticks more than they have.
But keep whining like that. I'm sure one day the soilers might figure out how to win without relying on the man advantage (probably not).
@@PeterDixon734 you sound like a sad human. get some fresh air little fella.
LOL @ first clip of McDavid blatantly hitting Hughes in the face with his stick with no call.
Tons of interference and cross checks and waterskiiing behind McDavid that’s not called but that’s playoff hockey I guess. Should point out that McDavids line mates have gone quiet. Other than one nice goal from Nuge he and Hyman not helping much, need to go back to 97 and 29 together all game in game 6.
walk it like we toccet
then two head monster will be out of gas in game 6 - 3 period

Literally the same thing you all said about the Canucks facing the oilers. And just like this series there is zero reason to believe that.
