  • The Canucks had their best players step up in Game 5 to take a 3-2 series lead against the Oilers and once again, the team was able to shut down Connor McDavid. TSN Hockey Insider Frankie Corrado credits JT Miller's game for being the reason why McDavid hasn't been able to get it going at 5on5 play.

  • @Uncle_Troy
    @Uncle_Troy Před měsícem +4

    Tocc has to be the best coach left in the playoffs right now. He's a big reason, if not the biggest that we have been so effective at neutralizing the Oilers' top guys with the players that we have. McD held shotless in game 1. Hyman with no goals and 1 assists since the end of game 1. Forcing the top forwards to play as many as 30 minutes and forcing Knoblauch to overload his secondary players. And now that the top forwards look like they're running out of gas in this series, we finally mustered 30 or more shots on goal for the first time in literally a month (last game: 31 SOG vs. Calgary on April 16th). This is the type of situation where your coach can literally dictate the course of the game, and that's exactly what he's done in all five games so far. He's taken a series where we've been the overall worse team (albeit not by a whole lot) in four out of five games, and gotten us out of it with two more wins than we should have on paper. You could argue that he's been our #1 player in this series.

      Also, the norm for the Oilers has been not winning in the postseason despite having two generational players. Forget about draisaitl. Name me a great generational player in the past who has not won a Stanley Cup or multiples by now besides McDavid, it’s unheard of isn’t it. Can’t even do it with McDavid? How many cups has Crosby won? How many cups has Gretzky won? How many cups has Lemieux won? He is on all of their levels yet can’t even win a couple rounds. If you aren’t gonna use him, let another team have him. What a waste.

    Tons of interference and cross checks and waterskiiing behind McDavid that’s not called but that’s playoff hockey I guess. Should point out that McDavids line mates have gone quiet. Other than one nice goal from Nuge he and Hyman not helping much, need to go back to 97 and 29 together all game in game 6.
