    Thank you so much for this video! It was great seeing and re-living my past neighborhood. I grew up in Little Italy. Lived in a few different locations but mostly on 18th street. My grandma lived on 20th & Plum. Nice to see Vagnarelli's (where I purchased my wedding gown), Arnone's, (oh those wonderful pepperoni breads), Morbito's (frequent shopper), etc. I went to Catholic school at St. Pauls, My mother and brothers went to Columbus school. I lived right across the street from St. Michael's church. I was so sorry it burnt down. Was a beautiful church. This video has renewed many memories. Thank you again for this great presentation. I am going to pass this around to my family.

    OMG! Thank you for this video! I was born in Erie and lived there until I was 22, then married and moved out of state. My parents were married at St Paul’s church, my grandparents rented a home on the railroad tracks, and I loved staying there watching the trains go by. Had many a delicious meal at Hectors. You brought back happy memories for me, now in my seventies!! Thank you again from the bottom of my heart. ❤😊 Mary Price

    This is great. My grandfather and his family, the Littles, lived on 18th and Cherry I believe for many many years. Tony “Boots” Little and his brother, (my great uncle) Ronny Little grew up there and my mom would go to her grandma (Nannees) in Little Italy as a kid and all her aunt and uncles barbershops, etc. And when I was a kid we would get Arnone’s rolls, pepperoni bread, all the time. Thankfully Arnone’s deli is still around in Wesleyville and Johnny Arnone makes fresh rolls every day so we still get it! It’s cool that you’ve commemorated this area as it’s not the same as it once was from the stories I’ve heard

    Thank you for making this video. I have lived in Erie my entire life. I grew up at 231 West 17 street. My grandparents owned what is now Larry's Central Market during the 1940's and 50's. It was called Giannamore's market back then. Owned and operated by my grandfather Emidio, grandmother Ergisa, and my father Mario Giannamore.

  • @paulgiannamore-guitar9195

    Thank you for the movie, very much appreciated and well done. My father lived in Little Italy and I was raised not far from there on 10th and Cascade. I really appreciate that you dated Little Italy from the 1800's to the mid 1900's. Just to add to the history, Larry's Market was formerly owned by a relative of my family and was Giannamore's Market.

    A little bit out of the way was Menendo's (SP?) Meat Market on 29th and Cherry. Pretty sure we put some kids through college from the amount of candy and ice cream we bought from them. LOL

    • @ChristineLorraine
      @ChristineLorraine  Před 5 měsíci +1

      We lived at 29th and Maple for five years, so yes, Manendo's was part of our childhood growing up selling us penny candy with our pennies and nickels. I just posted photos of Manendos store on Facebook today! I photographed the store in 1986 when I wrote an article about mom-and-pop stores for the Erie Times News. CZcams lets people post pictures now, let's see if I can post here and "mention" you.

    Is it still a safe Italian neighborhood?

    • @mayavenuemisfit814
      @mayavenuemisfit814 Před 2 měsíci

      No, it is not. West 18th Street and the streets surrounding it are some of the more rundown and dangerous parts of Erie nowadays, and there are very few Italian-owned businesses remaining in the neighborhood. 18th and Chestnut in particular is a very bad area. There have been several shootings at or in the immediate area of the Quick Stop convenience store at that corner.
      There are still some positive aspects of the area, though. International Bakery is still in business near 18th and Cherry. There is a community garden on West 18th, and I believe they also have a farmers' market down there during the warmer months as well. As with anywhere you go, if you visit the neighborhood just use your best judgment.
