I moved here from NJ in 2019... So much more affordable here. I've traveled to Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburg, Detroit, Toledo and several cities in Canada fro the first time in my life all by car. I'm is a very safe area of the east side.... Best thing I ever did.
I live a little bit south of Erie, this is mostly accurate. I stay here because it is probably one of the cheapest places to live. 27K a year and Im technically considered poverty level. But i can still afford a one bedroom apartment and have a car. Winters can be a bit rough but climate change feels like they are getting more bareable. Overall if you want economic stability and can stand the winters, would recommend
I would personally tell any newcomer to this part of the country to look at Youngstown, Ohio instead of Erie.
Gas is cheaper, housing is more affordable, the locals are far friendlier, there is no mandatory state vehicle inspection every year, winters down there aren't as bad, and the job market in Youngstown is very similar to what it is in Erie.
Probably the only thing Erie has over Youngstown is that crime is lower here. YO itself has a lot of bad neighborhoods, but if you wanted to rent a decent, reasonable apartment in a relatively safe place like Austintown or Boardman, you would pay about the same as you would for a place somewhere on the west side of Erie.
Sure is pretty there.
One of the best pros about Erie, that you forgot to mention is that we are a very diverse city with quite a few restaurants and stores that feature food and products from all over the world.
Diversity is a mixed bag and the lack of it is becoming more and more precious as diversity spreads.
Great informative video!
Thank you Luzelle.
Perfect the pros and cons are both good.
11) snow snow an more snow
I've lived here and in Girard most of my life. Traffic can get pretty bad and the healthy food options are getting better. Local produce is dirt cheap and there are indeed a lot of older people. Winters will literally make you want to leave.
Nothing like a white out on I90 to make ones day.
40 or 50 crashes is no bog deal.
It's the city with highest alcohol consumption per Capita, I was told.
Make of that what you will.
Lotta alcoholics for sure
Erie's public consumption laws are more relaxed than most places. It's not uncommon to see someone walking down the street inside the Erie city limits drinking a tall boy or a 40, and a cop cruises right past them without giving them a second look.
On the other hand, try that in Millcreek, Wesleyville or Lawrence Park. Lol.
Ive seen neighborhoods that were beautiful in the 60s & 70s become slums.
ERI airport doesn't fly to Detroit anymore after Delta pulled out.
BUT! The airport is VERY easy to get to, parking is cheap, and security only takes two minutes (or less). I fly very often and I love flying out of ERI, it's quick and easy.
United flies to O'Hare and occasionally Dulles, American flies to Charlotte.
Thanks for this update! Hopefully our airport will expand a bit more, but for now it's definitely an easy airport to get in and out of!
Nice video and just about everything seems to be correct except you forgot to add two more cons. 1. We have only one gas company and one electric company. 2. Not many choices in your internet provider. I lived in Cleveland and there you have many choices in which utility company you want to deal with because they have more than just one. But all and all I wouldn't trade this city for all the tea in China. Thank you. Very well done.
Outside of longer winters all the others aren’t con to me. I’ve been going to Erie for day trips for years now.
Pros: fishing, the outdoors, and the sports teams.
Cons: high crime, bad schools, rude, cliquish locals.
Middle of the road: fairly inexpensive to live in, but not as cheap as other nearby cities such as Youngstown.
do they have a home depot and microtel?
There is a Home Depot. I think Microtel is gone now. They were located about half a mile from one another on upper Peach Street.
Hey Joe, What are the safe middle class neighborhoods? Do we have a little Italy in Erie?
Erie is a ghetto slum. Little Italy is now Little Beirut.
No idea why I ended up here, but everything you say makes sense 🎉 I live in the Toronto area where avg price of homes >$1 million, whereas Erie is
Ohio is even cheaper than PA.
Because you cant get blood out of a stone
Cause it sucks here
I am moving to Erie in a few days for a 12 month internship, any advice or underrated spots?
Be more vigilant on the East Side , gyms and Ymca , churches great places to make friends. Have in home, self care in place for the winter months. Bowling, ice skating and cross country skiing 🎿. The public dock on the water is a great place to clear ur head. People are kind there.
Yea here is some advice...don't stay here, it sucks
Hike winter green gorge
Go to North East, especially in summer to drive Route 20 and see thousands of acres of grape vines and wineries.
Can you wait until after I buy a house to promote Erie
The Cons FAR outweigh the PROS Bro...............
I disagree with your perception of our distance from the three major metropolitan areas, especially for retired people. We go to all three regularly with an emphasis on Cleveland. We probably average once every 5 weeks. Granted, it’s not around the corner, but if you come from another US major metro area like NYC, Boston, Chicago etc., the travel distance may be greater, but the travel time is just a bit longer, on average. Lack of stupid traffic is a great offset.
Buffalo is 97 miles from Erie, straight shot on the New York State Thruway but you have to pay toll. Cleveland is 102 miles in the other direction along I-90, and Pittsburgh is 128 miles south along I-79.
Joe don't forget to talk about the thriving music and theater scenes in Erie. Did you know Erie has one of biggest and most active community theater scenes in the US!
Thanks Teresa! We will definitely be exploring Erie's performing arts scene in a coming episode! I appreciate the input.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why are so many properties on a pending status. Why do they sell quickly
Hi Kevin. Right now if you are a seller, it is a good time to list your home. Homes are still selling quickly because there are more buyers than sellers right now. Supply and demand is favoring sellers right now. I hope that helps.
Black Rock, Blackstone, and vanguard are buying them all up.
Erie Iskandar Aria Pandji 💞 July Rachmila
You forgot edinboro University
Now called Penwest because it had to combine with the other state schools(I went to Cal) because of the population crash
That isnt Erie
If Erie plays its cards right, it could be a beautiful resort in the next century, after global climate change makes a lot of the rest of the US uninhabitable.
Occupational Priviledge Tax!
Dont let them shit you ! Hud owns most of the houses in erie!
The city is trash there's absolutely nothing to do. Then there's the entertainment tax that they put in of course this is after they pulled almost every bar out of downtown. The restaurants close early
You're not lying. Whenever I go downtown for Otters games, I usually just go home after the game, drink my beer, and order Doordash. The few places left downtown are usually overrun with college kids mostly every Friday and Saturday night, and it's nearly impossible to sit down and actually enjoy yourself.
5-6 months of snow and cold ,lower Eastside is dirty and crime is high ,property taxes are to high and going up ,no plane service to Detroit or Chicago .
Yeah Im moving to Dublin, Ohio soon. Erie population is constantly declining
@@pleroma5924I used to live in Columbus years ago and I worked in Dublin for a short time. It is a very nice place. Good luck to you and congratulations on your escape from Erie!
I'm hoping to get out very, very soon myself. I've got my heart set on South Carolina. Nice weather, friendly people, and beaches you can actually swim at that aren't constantly closed due to algae or bacteria like the ones at Presque Isle.
Nothing to do? Gyms, rock climbing walls, nature spaces, etc....
No way we have the one of the cleanest water. As for number 3 lol all seasons in one day bt he’s rite. Haha safe town…no sir ware u live ur able to leave ur door unlocked, barely in mine. Nothing to do in Erie unless u got money n aren’t struggling(which is mentioned) n have a high paying job which is hard to find unless u kno people. Low traffic bt dumb drivers. Cost of living is stupid high. Population decreases bc people r leaving bc how Ridiculous It is. Landlords eat u alive.
Disagree. Grew up In Erie. Left 1989 for Florida. Cost of living way higher here. 1k/month for a studio w pool ❤
@@jeffsterrett2123okay, that's fair. But I've heard it said that many people who look to buy or rent real estate want the best, not the best BUY.
That said, I would pay more to live somewhere nice like South Carolina or Florida as opposed to paying less to live in "dreary Erie". 😂
Con?......too many liberals, and that really makes just about everything worse.
