- This is the vampires crypt and witches circle located in Erie cemetery in Erie pa, a lot of local legends behind it , paranormal happenings and creepy stories! What I state in video is what I have personally heard don’t quote me on it please. Enjoy

The so-called V that is etched above the front door is actually a tulip (flower) and does not stand for vampire. If you were to go to the front office, you would find out who is buried there. It is/was not a vampire. The crypt NEVER caught on fire. The black color you see on the outside stone is black mold that is impregnated into the stone due to age and moisture. This is a very common occurrence you see throughout all graveyards and tombstones.

Its nice to fantasize about vampires, werewolves, and fire breathing dragons but they are simply folklore and not real. The BS that people make-up and spread, and then how it takes off never ceases to amaze me.

I loved to walk through the Erie Cemetery with my dog when I lived in Erie. It is very beautiful. I remember walking past this crypt. I don't know the legend behind it, if there is one. There are tours of the cemetery put on by the Historical society...they may be aware of any story about this crypt. I believe there are more than 50,00 people buried here. There is even an old tract where the horse drawn wagons carrying the coffins would travel for burials. There are also deer and there was a coyote den that was there, but they took the pups out due to the mother being aggressive to visitors/pets. The cemetery was incorporated I think in the 1850s but I have seen grave markers there that show dates of passing in the 1700s. Very cool place and kept up well.

There was a name on it, but it was sandblasted off! And it's called the Brown Mausoleum which is what I heard on top of the Vampire story

I've lived in Erie for 55 yrs. 32 of those yrs I have lived 1/2 a block from the cemetery. This is the first ive EVER heard about this.
You've only just heard about it BECAUSE you only lived a 1/2 block away.... It was the kids that lived 12 blocks away that came up with the legend 😁
Legend and lore of the 19th century is always fascinating. The reason to keep the gates locked is prevent vandalism and paranormals chasing ghosts.

I remember this cemetery well, lived nearby as a child, many years ago. My dad and I used to walk through there, usually in the spring because there was a lovely tulip garden. I remember the stone caretaker’s house facing lower Chestnut St. Is it still there? Thank you for this informative video!
My uncle was the groundskeeper for Erie cemetery for decades. This guy has no idea what he's talking about.
I'm getting the feeling he's going off of a legend, I'm not sure how much is truth, the vampire I don't believe, the stone's that are black is black mold from the elements, I also do cemetery video's and have seen many black stone's.. 🤗 from Wisconsin I hope you're staying warm..

There’s also a grave marker lying flat right next to the one by the tree, on the right side.
I've spent a lot of time at that crypt just relaxing. I've learned up against the building as I was sitting there and even knocked on that door. This was a few years ago and I'm still alive. Would stay there until the sun set and wasn't allowed to be in cemetery any longer for the night.
It's been a right of passage to hop the fence and scare your friends since my grandma was a girl. Good times lol
You actually can go at night sometimes: I've gone with my bestie a couple of times and we just drove in through the front gate. A little disquieting at first, but very tranquil otherwise.

Yes I remember this well, I have been going to this spot my whole life,me and my friends still roll up on this side of the hill and smoke it up, (💨💨 pass) and we always reminisce the days we used to climb all over this structure, at one point it had Brown family name written on the top, but somehow it’s definitely not there anymore, also the front door was ably to partially open and you can see what look like drawers i the walls, but that also has since been secured, we always called it the devil’s tomb, and the father supposedly was from Erie and yes the story about him going to another country and upon Returning he wasn’t the same is the rumors but there is a lot more to the story as well i don’t quite remember all of it, but yes the devils tomb, 🔥🤘🏼🔥

Reminds me of a tomb in a cemetery next to my old highschool. My friends and I would sneak cigarettes there. The word was if you knocked on the door and said "what you doing in there?" They'd say absolutely nothing. Well that was true they said absolutely nothing. Lol
there is no name on it because the cemetery owns it. they stored bodies there in winter until the ground thawed and they could bury them

I'll bet anything the reason those stones are in a circle was probably back in the day there was a big tree in the center and they probably buried their loved ones under a tree for shade and the black stuff on the stone is mildew from the oak trees.. you should have more respect for these people
