- The swimming holes along Rock Run in central Pennsylvania are said to be the best in the state.
In this episode I go underwater in the Middle Falls section to see if the hype is true.

Wow, this was super cool video! That water clarity was amazing! Loved the perspective of seeing things underwater including the shapes and contours of the rocks, all the fish, and how the natural light filtered down through the water. Great concept, great video, I enjoyed this very much!!
Thanks Walter! I want to get back up there for a weekend because there is a lot there. I could spend a couple days just filming at the upper falls. I got some footage of the upper falls, it'll be in the second part of this video. But I want to get down into it, into the huge potholes and deep water pools and get underwater footage of all it. The upper falls is much larger in scale. And there's also a lot cool features all up and down the creek.
Want to go for a weekend where is this ?
This was fun to watch you go into those swimming holes. Liked seeing the underwater shots, very cool!
I had a blast. In part two I scout along the valley. The upper falls underwater will definitely be in a future episode.
Saw you with Walter and I came by to check you out. I'm subbed! Really enjoyed this episode. Thanks for sharing. Peace & Prayers.
Glad you enjoyed it grace.
Whoa 54°. 🥶
Really cool underwater scape, and the fish were cool, too. What kind of stone do you think that bedrock is? And I think I need a pair of those webbed-gloves!
I think it is sandstone. I saw some big chunks of conglomerate too but the creek itself is cut through sandstone.
Love this place fishing is amazing there
It's like swimming in a fish bowl really. Thanks for watching Flipper!
this is the kind of spot I’ve been looking for. thank you for sharing the coordinates! do u remember how far of a hike to get there? is there a trailhead?
This spot is right off the road that runs alongside of Rock Run. There are some pulloff parking spaces at various places on the road. What I saw was basically park and walk immediately down to creek level. Minimum amount of hiking.
I can't wait to come here up in the summer I live in Cogan station Pa so I only live about 30 to 25 minutes away from rock run
You're lucky to be so close!
Looks like a fun place.
Very fun and cold!
All your missing is a fishing pole and some worms, man I’d kill to fish a hole like that. Might have to check it out some day
It was like swimming in an aquarium!
I Have been there!!
What is the best time to go for warm waters
I've only been there once so I cannot say for sure. It might get a couple degrees warmer during the Summer but not enough to really be comfortable more than a few minutes. I recommend wearing a wetsuit if you have one. It will extend the time you can be in the water and take the edge off the freezing temperatures. They found a person dead in one of the swimming spots. They had been snorkeling. Water that cold can kill you pretty quickly so be extra cautious.
Beggin to heaad outt to lock 12, might haave tto bring reelaatives
Lock 12 is on my list. Beautiful spot with cool history.
You are right up the Road lol like 8 miles.
I am in trout run lol
Your lucky to live so close ! It took me about three hours to get there.
@@TopoRanger Dang lol i remember my first time their i almost went into shock when i hit the water lol
@@nomadsempirebuilder9461 I was not prepared for water that cold! Next time I'm bringing a thicker wetsuit for sure. If you have any location tips from up in that area send them toe at toporanger@protonmail.com.
@@TopoRanger same here, I’m from greensburg
i gainered the 17foot cliff last summer it was the coldest water i ever swam in in my life
Nice! Yeah, next time I'm there I'm wearing a thicker wetsuit. A dry suit would be the best. I don't know how you swim with just a bathing suit.
And also what time of the year did you go to rock run?
I think this was in June.
I was a little home sick and found this video to see what was out there on rock run. This is a great spot and we generally don’t show people from out of town (at least when I was growing up) to many people tend to trash and litter areas like this. I can’t tell how far up you went but I have hiked almost all of this and there are spots that get close to 20ft.
You're lucky to have grown up close to area like this. In the second part of this episode I find the upper falls and there were several spots that definitely looked twenty feet deep. Is the water still freezing in mid August?
@@TopoRanger the water is always freezing the highest it might get is 60-65 only if there is a severe heat wave.
What month was this
Mid June I think
The water is so cold there.
Yep. I'm bring my thicker wetsuit this summer so I don't freeze.
Could you drop a pin to where you found this? Theres so many cool spots in this area
Coordinates are 41.51767657568065, -76.91313496181759 The second part of this video will show the upper falls. The spot in this video was awesome but the upper falls and pools, potholes are on a larger scale. The whole creek is beautiful.
@LyoMilo It's free. Just search for Rock Run near Ralston, PA.

I'm still thinking about how cold that water was!
