I’m thinking the glass cup like piece could be a candle holder. Maybe candle wax was put in it, possibly, I have several small ones like that, without markings and very modern. But very similar. ❤️❤️❤️
100% my fave mudlarking channel. I’ve loved watching your knowledge expand and it’s really helped me to identify treasures I find and it’s funny how we all get more selective as we go along (although I still bring home plenty of ‘things’ which end up being ‘nothing’s’ after cleaning!) x

Pity you left that piece of Chinese pottery! It has really fancy writings on it that say “Blessing and Longevity”, the two characters are intact and readable but then at the same time curved artfully to form a complete circle. It could’ve made a beautiful pendant that has wonderful meanings to it!

You could use the knife rest to mind your wet paint brushes.

In Gene Florence's book on Depression Glass, he mentions some pattern, think it's Doric and Pansy or another pattern, where pieces of the pattern where found in England. Quite possibly Anchor Hocking exported to England and Canada glassware.
I love the fact that you can link the items to the mansion house and build up a picture of the people who lived there. This is what we like about mudlarking, the history and items that take you back right back in time for a moment. Very enjoyable video.

You beat me to it, my great grannie who we loved with was a gordon from Fochabers in Scotland then she moved to Dundee and when her father died she was made to sign papers and sent down to Lancashire with her two younger brothers and I remember my grannie telling me the story about the boar.

When I was a child (many miles ago )!!! my father came home with a bottle of fammel syrup .when I next had a cough I was given a dose of this concoction. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever had. It tasted like the smell of creosote.I can still imagine that I can taste it even now.!!!!! Love from Wolverhampton in The West Midlands. xxxxxxx

I took a French girlfriend to Fortnum's & she was so impressed (I think primarily with the packaging), that I took her to Harrod's food store - & she was very nervous crossing Hyde Park as I made her walk across the grass (which isn't allowed in Parisian parks).

I can’t believe that you left that enamel sign behind it’s quite valuable even in the bad shape that it is in please go back and rescue it . Lol I was shouting at my screen to not leave it behind.the ones in good condition can fetch hundreds
And the chinese plate with gold trim. Could have cut the circle design out and made a pendant or ornament.

Your Lancaster, Ohio glass jar was probably for jelly or jam. When I was a child in the 1950s, my mother used similar jars for her jam, and preserves, and they'd be sealed with parafin wax and then a thin, brass-plated cap was put over the mouth.
Yes! I have one very similar. As soon as Alex turned over the jar and I saw the Anchor I said, "That's Anchor Hocking". This company has a very long history and there are some great websites out there. Many of our american canning jars were made by them during the late 1800's through the 1900's.
Lancaster, Ohio we named after Lancaster, England.
That dump is a fabulous gift that keeps on giving. Hope you are going back there again.

What is it with Gail and tiny pot lids? She arrives, and dolls' pot lids leap from the soil to land at her feet!
Altogether, this haul ranks very high on the 'Amazing Scale'. What a collection! After years of pennies and halfpennies, it is so satisfying to finally see a whole shilling. Marvelous!

Channels like this are pretty much ravens watching what shinies other ravens find. I know they remind me of myself when I go beach combing. (Glances at shell/fossil stash that I still need to get around to organizing)

2:51 That niddrie brick was made just down the road from me. It is now Fort Kinnaird Retail Park. I can remember it there in the 1980's and it closed 1990.

That caviar jar is looking really novel, cool. Perhaps consider the Japanese craft of kintsugi (mending with gold) for repairing such a unique vessel?
Anchor Hocking glass is still manufactured today. My uneducated guess is that your piece of glass is a jelly jar.

What a very interesting place to go hunting for hidden treasures. I really loved the fact that you found out who these items probably belonged to. Such a strange jumbled link through time, to a place that once stood proud. Full of life. A bit sad in a way, that all that's left are bits and Bob's...ah but those things are now being re discovered and treasured once again.

Excellent stuff. The knife rest seems very big, my initial thought was it was a glass wedding cake pillar for a tiered cake.

I thought it was a bit big too, then I did a Google image search for ‘cut glass knife rest’ and wow! The Victorians certainly seemed to like chunky knife rests. It’s like they hated any clear space in their table settings- they started inventing stuff to clutter it up with like these! These days, the knife rests might be better used for paintbrushes or wooden spoons next to your cooking area.

WOW ladies, the two of you have managed to stumble upon some cool old finds. Take them home, clean them up with some old toothbrushes and put your finds in a nice display case. Watching the two of you treasure hunt together is so heartwarming and it makes me wish I could see my mother more. Its been so tough with covid-19. Plus she lives like 2 hours away. We love going to thrift stores and garage sales together. We both love arts and crafts and jewelry making. She's the best! Cherish eachother everyday. You're so lucky to have eachother and seem to really love what you do. Watching you brings me joy in these uncertain times and I want to thank you for that. How I envy you! I am 75 yrs old and have wanted to go through dumps since I was 9 years old. Never was allowed to do such a thing in Iowa and moved to Southern California in 1962 which was and is a wasteland without treasure for the most part. I thank you for the opportunity to go along on your adventures and history. Even if I were there, my Afib would prevent me from physical discovery, so I really appreciate your videos. Fascinating and very exciting with all the bottles, bits and bobs!

I had an idea for the blue bottle stoppers. You could make a windchime or hang a cluster of them together for decor in the light. I'm sure they would look great in the sun together. :)
