The original Japanese version of weight of the world, the singer was crying by the end of the recording that her voice trembled and faltered. The director loved the emotion so much that it was used as the final recording for the song in the game.

@@MusicTheoryforGamers each version (Chaos language , English , and Japanese) are more or less had the same message in the lyrics, but with different words (most likely also from different character's POV).
The English Version is more about facing the consequences of the past mistakes while fighting against hopelessness.
While the Japanese version is more about facing loneliness and the pain of losing loved ones. The Chaos version... we're not really sure (more or less, its about the same depressing elements).
Just to help you understand the context, this is taken from the Nier Automata Book "Memory Thorn" (comes with the game if you bought the special edition or something) :
2B had to kill 9S again and again,
she thought it was a sin
and one day the weight of her sins has grown too heavy for her
she tried to end her life, the life of a defective product, a defective E-Type
but 9S stopped her and instead he cut his throat to avoid 2B from doing it this time
he fell on the ground, she took him in her arms, his blood covering her face
She began to scream "WHY, WHY" countless times, he died again because of her
      “Don’t apologize. Instead…”
Even with his rough breathing, 9S was smiling.
“Next time...don’t hesitate...to kill me. Because we….will meet again.”
      “I promise you.”
'That I won’t hesitate to kill you. The next time, or the time after that.'
      not because of her mission,
but because that’s what 9S wanted.
To grant his wish of meeting again...she’ll kill him.
She made a promise, a cruel blood oath

Probably the best thing about this game's Soundtrack is the fact that nearly Every Single Track has *at least* 3 Versions of it with one as an 8-Bit Rendition, another as just the Instrumentals, and one more with Lyrics. These Versions are then all played on top of each other simultaneously but with only 1 hearable at a time, this allows the Versions to seamlessly transition to one another depending on your situation in the gameplay and it is insanely immersive. For example start the battle and you'll be introduced to the Instrumentals, enter a Hacking Minigame and the 8-Bit kicks in, finish that Minigame and it immediately transitions back to Instrumentals, getting to the later phase of an enemy or getting put in a sticky situation well allow the Lyrics to introduce themselves and act as your own personal hype-man as you skillfully break free of danger or are getting ready lay the smackdown on something.

The Chaos Language aims to emulate certain languages without actually being those languages. Voice of No Return, for example, is meant to sound like French without actually being French.
This is done to postulate what certain languages could sound like in thousands of years; completely unrecognizable in terms of vocabulary, but with very familiar linguistics cues.

@@askechadd2473 For a lot of the songs, Emi Evans (lyricist and one of the vocalists) had a base language she took and tried to imagine how it might sound in another thousand years. Meaning that there’ll be a lot of thing where you think you recognize a language, but it’s not the actual words of that language.
The first Nier game has a song called Ashes of Dreams, which has four versions. The “New” version, sung in real English, then the Aratanaru, Nuadhaich, and Nouveau versions, which are chaos language variants of Japanese, German, and French, respectively. Those sound a lot like the language they emulate, but it’s still the fake languages.
But there’s also songs (such as Song of the Ancients) that are in a fully original language, basically fusing aspects of various languages until there was something new to work with.
Yoko Taro, the game director, wanted music with vocals, but Keiichi Okabe, the main composer, didn’t want real lyrics in the vocals which may distract from the dialogue of the characters. Hence, the Chaos language.

      @-libertyprimev1-902 Před 2 lety +18

It's also so they can have more emotional background music during scenes with dialogue, if everything was in an understandable language it would be tough to understand the characters conversations and emotion due to another set of words being played on top of it. you commented that a lot of the songs end on ii (or less often IV). I think part of why that happens is because these tracks all loop in-game - that means that they resolve to the top of the piece instead of having an "end" and then starting again. It's also thematic with the focus on cycles (repeat playthroughs) in the game's narrative, so it ends up being great on several layers, though.

For people who don't know, the Chaos Language isn't one language put together and used for songs. Emi Evans was shown the instrumentals to a piece and sometimes was asked to create lyrics with a specific language in mind, though many times she was given the freedom to use any language she wanted. In regard to the original Nier, Song of The Ancients was the first piece she wrote and was given full creative freedom of it. She used German, French, Hungarian, Welsh, Japanese, French, Latin, and sounds she made up on her own. Okabe asked her to base Grandma on French, The Wretched Automatons is English, and Kaine/Salvation is Gaelic.

Added rumble support maybe?, and I guess a general graphics improvement. Maybe slide us a short story from the short story long novel as bonus content like what replicant got.

Your passion for music was on full display and it was really inspiring for me. I've been wanting to comb through Automata's soundtrack for a long time since it is my favorite game. The soundtrack is a big part of what makes Automata such a special piece of media, and thanks to the inspiration I got from watching you react to all the songs, I decided I would go through all the tracks and discuss them both in terms of what a person may feel listening to them outside of the game and how the music is able to display certain aspects of the story without a person having to play through it. I'm mainly just rambling about it in the videos I'm making currently, but I'm hoping to make a more detailed analysis about the tracks in this soundtrack later on. @@georgeken148 It's just I like the more prominent percussion in SotA and they took the beginning part out of Ashes for some reason. Both versions of both are great but I can't say that I prefer the new ones.

The weight of the world feels like a emotionally heavy piece, but when it's sung in chorus of different languages while you "kill the gods", it.. fills you with so much strength, you don't feel any weight at all, as if it's carried by everyone in the world together. I never thought is was possible to make a player feel so connected, a part of a huge unstoppable force. Indescribable.

the music even by itself has so much weight to it, but to fully get the feeling of such weight it almost needs to be coupled with the gameplay and understanding of its story. A tragic story told through the game's world, coupled with the weight of the music, years after playing the game i still remember the emotions from it clearly

I love the English version of Weight of the World, but the Japanese version is in a league of its own. The singer actually begins tearing up while singing the song and it adds a lot to the listening experience.

One thing that I love about the soundtrack is how it matches the stories themes of repetition, like in the song it repeats the same themes but each repeat is slightly different, the game is the same way

J’Nique Nicole is the name of the singer that he mistook for a male during A Beautiful Song that he didn’t even question the femininity of during Memories of Dust. Her range is just that insane.
I know everyone loves Emi Evans (and I definitely do too) but I simp for J’Nique. She’s such an amazing talent and so distinct.

19:28 "The song reminds me of Desert Rose by Sting" about Memories of Dust, the desert theme. Is it coincidence that Desert Rose is indeed an item in NieR Automata, described as "a rose that bloomed in the desert"

However, I've known bagpipe players who also play the individual "pipes" directly as flutes without the bag for fun bits.

I'm glad you're listening to this, NieR has such a unique soundtrack. I don't know if this would count but I just remembered there was a crossover event that FFXIV had with NieR: Automata that remixed the 'Weight of the World.' If you're wanting to check that out I would highly recommend it! Search: FFXIV OST - Weight of the World (Prelude Version)

If you’re still taking requests (and probably once you finish all the Ace Attorney reactions you wanna do), you should check out the OST for Chicory: A Colorful Tale! It’s composed by Lena Raine, same composer for Celeste, so you KNOW it’s gonna be good!

Honestly you need to do the NieR Replicant ost next while you still have the melodies from Automata in your head. You'll appreciate it so much more coming from this ost, even without having played the games. I personally hadn't played the games at first but got into them from hearing the music, and I've grown to love the series and ita music so much more since having played the games. It's such an incredible experience that these games provide between the story, characters, and soundtracks.
