    I bought this ht4550i and it replaces a Optoma uhd 65, which was great for the last 5 yrs...This projector is better in color but lacks the optoma's full scope to blow up old 4x3 scope pictures..to fill the screen..otherwise, very happy with the purchase from Benq..

    I always enjoy your reviews and respect your opinion. Darkening the review space would allow a more accurate assessment, but I suppose most people will use these lower end projectors in a similarly light environment anyway.
    Unfortunate that contrast took a hit with pixel shifting compared to HD models like the HT2050. The larger 0.65 chip has helped, but is not the game changer we had all hoped for.

    The higher brightness from this projector must make 3D content that much better since 3D mode greatly reduces brightness already along with 3D glasses also dimming the content (almost like wear sunglasses). I have the benq ht3550i and I love it but I'm already looking to upgrade to the 4550i after hearing this review. Me and my wife love 3d movies. We have a dedicated custom built movie theater but have to have it pitch black to get the most out of the 3550.

    Does anyone here have this as a replacement for the 3550? I've had the 3550 for years and love it but am considering this one as a replacement. I use the 3550 with WCG on and brilliant color off...I know it dims the image but the colors are crazy and your eyes adjust after like 15 min...also enhances the black level. I'm wondering if this works even better on the 4550.

I mean I will change my current projector for this reason mostly, I hate changing settings on the projector to accommodate for the hit on the light output due to bulb degeneration. My 3550 started loosing light from 100 hours. After 400 hours i just don’t like it anymore and im in a bat cave.

    I don't know who this projector is for... On a 165" screen, you get eye searing brightness on normal, uncomfortable on eco and too dark with eco and wcg on. Unless you're running a low gain screen it's a bit much if you're going for under 180" i think. Also, quite noisy surprisingly...

    • @joentell
      @joentell  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, I don't think it's cool to make fun of someone who can't afford a $10K-30K projector. $3000 is expensive for many people already. I think what you get for $3000 is outstanding! Black levels on JVC are second to none, but you pay for that.

  • @KimmoJaskari
    @KimmoJaskari Před rokem +2

    Black levels depend more on the room than the projector. The darkest black you can get is the actual color of the screen. That's the big selling point of an UST - you can get a 0.5 gain CLR screen which helps with perceived contrast. No normal front projector can handle any ambient light gracefully, because in the light, a white screen is white, not black. So I really don't think you can say the projector can't handle total black, since no projector can if there's any light.

    • @demonreturns4336
      @demonreturns4336 Před 10 měsíci

      That’s not true

    • @joentell
      @joentell  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Sorry, I just saw this. CZcams isn't good at letting me know when I have comments on older videos. I hear what you're saying. But just consider that in a totally darkened room, a white screen looks black. Putting a light on any screen can cause the room to light up a bit depending on your wall color and nearby surfaces. So the screen is never perfectly black like you're saying, but the same can be said for OLED too. My OLED has reflections from light bouncing off the walls. Some of the high end projectors can produce awesome black levels. I've stood in front of a $30K JVC when I was at the Sound United offices, and I was looking straight at the projector while my eyes were where the black bars normally would be. It was an odd sensation because the light wasn't shining into my eye, but I could see it shining right above me.
