A-Rod and Jeter always had a friendly rivalry, but nothing that would endanger their friendship at this time... although that changed later on in their careers. But, the exchange between Jeter and teammate Chad Curtis is real. Curtis was upset at Jeter for palling around with A-Rod during the team's altercations. But man it’s incredible they home grew two of the greatest hitters of all time in JR and Arod. Nearly 1,350 HR and 3,500 RBIs between the both of them. Oh and they also drafted David Ortiz but dealt him years before his arrival in the majors. And then Randy; greatest lefty of all time. Nearly 5,000 Ks and FIVE consecutive 300 strikeout seasons which is incredible to thing about. During his dbacks run he struck out over 1,000 batters in 3 seasons 😳 bet that will never happen again. Too bad he couldn’t put together a few years earlier than he did at 24 years old. Ryan’s record would be his easily

I was at this game but I think we must have left before the brawl. Safeco Field had been open only a couple of weeks so it was a totally full house and we probably wanted to beat the crowd. But I know it was this game because I checked the box score for this date and It confirmed what I remember, namely Jeff Fassero getting shelled for the loss. Best part for me was someone loudly heckling Chuck Knoblauch when he was up to bat, Knoblauch getting a home run, some Yankees fan yelling “I love you Knoblauch” and the heckler roaring back “I HATE KNOBLAUCH!” loud enough for the whole stadium to hear. (The homer is mentioned at 21:17.) It was about the only time I went to Safeco and got the old Kingdome experience. The Safeco crowd quickly became bland with software engineers being the only ones who could afford to come out in big numbers.
