  • Jim Rosvold, our Chief Photographer in the west had an opportunity to mount a GoPro on a ref's hemet during the women's game of the 2014 Hockey City Classic. This is video of Minnesota's 4-0 win over Minnesota State on Friday, January 19th at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN. We hope you enjoy this view of the game from the referee's perspective.
Special thanks to Greg Shepherd of the WCHA and his officiating crew: Leah Wrazidlo, Mike Diebold, Joseph Oberg and especially Krissy Langley who wore the camera.
Also thank you to Nate Kulenkamp for making sure the camera stated charged and mounted.

Reffing women's hockey is tough, it always progresses the same, third period they're tearing each other apart.

Lumberjack1645 Body checking was actually legal in women's hockey (at least in the European leagues) until the first World Women's Championship in 1990. It was after that tournament that it became a penalty.

They simply aren't men. period. They never will be. I could care less if it's sexist. I coach female hockey..adult and squirt. I love it. But they are very very different as they were designed to be. Given that, you kind of have to change the way you view it.

so what if it's more entertaining to watch men's league hockey? I am a female goaltender, and I agree that playing with the boys is a lot more intense, but we all have the time of our lives out there. to take that away from all the girls who love the game is selfish.
