John Olsen is one of Australia’s most successful and acclaimed painters. At 93, he still heads into his studio every day to paint.
But while John became the "darling" of the art world, and each award celebrated his genius, his "obsession" with work also often cast a long shadow on parts of his family.

Great video. I feel Louise remained balanced and positive throughout. The idea of someone hustling their mother off to a bank when she is dying of a brain tumour is truly abhorrent. The complex tapistry of John's personal life is of John's own making. But, it's good to see that in the end, good sense and love prevail.
This two-part series was very enjoyable.
Adult children who are lucky enough to see their parents gradually transform into clear minded _elderly friends_ are able to have conversations with them that clear up misunderstandings that troubled them for decades.
Such a process was expertly revealed in this story.
Thank you for introducing this American to John Olsen. What wonderful art he's created/creating and the complexities of his personal life and family are insightful.

I feel like James is an intransigent figure within the flux of the modern world. He's quite phallic really! Perhaps he can generate a career in professional eating!
James truly is a brilliant eater, the way he transports sustenance into his system and fooling everyone around him into believing he is human is an Oscar winning performance
