Gavin Larkin was the ultimate alpha male: a highly successful advertising executive with plenty of friends a loving family. But there was a problem with his seemingly perfect life. Gavin decided to change, and in 2009, he used his marketing nous and his high-profile contacts to create R U OK? Day, a national day of action to prevent suicide.
But not long after the launch, the super-fit, indomitable Gavin was anything but okay. He died of cancer just after marking R U OK?'s third successful campaign. R U OK? Day has become one of the nation's most embraced days of action.

Thank you so much for this incredible story. Australian Story has always been my favourite program and I thank you for all you do. It’s so much work and dedication to show us Aussies to the world and this story is just another beautiful portrayal of amazing people doing amazing things. Lastly R U OK is one of those questions that doesn’t get asked enough, unfortunately at times until it’s too late. Let’s be there for each other.

I grew up with Maryanne's sister in my year at school. I spent many days playing at her house, and her siblings at my house. They are the NICEST, and I mean NICEST people in the world. The kindest, sweetest people.

I've lost everything due to Covid. I'm homeless from next week. The Australian Embassy doesn't care. I'm being forced to commit suicide. I have been screaming out for help but nobody listens, people just turn their backs and walk away.

Hi Pamela. I'm a retired bus driver. Sometimes a person would ask where the bus was going. "It's on the front of the bus" I would reply.
In time I realized they could not read.
I would like to help the illiterate to read and write.
      Cheers Gray Australia

R U OK days aren't going to do anything for the mental health problems caused by lockdowns.
