    Huge, steam shower installation from studs to tile with modern materials and traditional mud floor combined to create a waterproof shower. This shower has an area for a tub, the shower floor and main floor a both heated with radiant electric heat by Schluter Ditra Heat floor warming system. Wallboard used is a lightweight foam board by schluter, Kerdi-Board, used both on the shower walls and ceiling to create a water and vapor tight environment suitable for a steam shower. The bench seat was constructed of 2” kerdi-Board, which simplifies the construction by using a light weight foam board, which is very strong and easy to assemble and make water tight with the use of Kerdi-Band, the bench was also heated for a comfortable warm experience when used. The very large shower floor was created with a level area where the tub will sit and a sloped area for the shower portion, sloped to a Schluter Kerdi-Line linear drain. The floor was floated with deck mud and then covered with Ditra heat membrane for the heat wire element, then sealed with Kedri sheet membrane as required in a wet area. A large format ceramic tile was used on the shower walls and ceiling installed with T-Lock leveling system, and a Hexagonal mosaic tile was used on the shower floor, a larger hex tile was used on the heated main floor. As a note, hexagonal tile was very popular years ago, but faded in popularity for quite some time, they are now making a return even as large format tiles. This video time lapse shows the entire installation of the bathroom tile, from the studs to the finished installation of all the tile, wall tile, ceiling tile, mosaic shower floor tile and hexagonal main floor tile. Even though it would have been possible to use a large format tile on the shower floor, because the floor had a flat surface pitched to a linear drain, the homeowner decided to use a black hexagonal mosaic tile. An advanced grout was used to grout the walls and floor, White grout on the ceiling and two shades of gray for the walls and floors. All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. I learn more from them as they come at talking speed (I do like when you speed it up after the explanation). I have watched about 20 or more of your videos already and will continue to do so. Each video has received a like from me. I can't thank you enough for educating me on the ins and outs of tile work.

    Very good! I had a vision to do this with a bathroom that has just a commode, sink and oversized walk-in shower. If you don't mind, what is the price range of doing something like this? I know it can cost a pretty, but it is worth it vs buying those god awful steam rooms with all those fancy bells and whistles. I love steam rooms vs dry saunas. Some prefer dry heat but steam will ultimately do what a dry sauna can do and effectively deep clean

    Thanks for letting me sit back and watch someone else do the work and as always another amazing work of art. BTW is the ceiling sloped?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  Před 3 lety

      The ceiling is supposed to be sloped at 2" per foot, but in many cases the customer does not want that. The purpose of the slope is to direct steam that condenses on the ceiling to flow toward a wall so that it odes not form cold droplets of water that then drips on the person in the steam shower. The customer is made aware of the issue, and in most cases they will opt to not have the slope. In a continuous use steam room where the steam is on all the time, it is much more important to slope the ceiling.

    • @vanman3752
      @vanman3752 Před 3 lety +1

      @@SalDiBlasi That's what I thought and agree with you. Even with a dramatic slope of 2" per foot droplets still form and in a large shower like yours droplets will form even if the ceiling were sloped. Unfortunately it is a code requirement around my neck of the woods.

    It's great to see some of these longer videos of the complete install again. Stunning work as always Sal. One question however, why did you add the full kirdi membrane over the ditra? I assume it's because the ditra isn't rated for a steam shower but not quite sure.

    • @jons7054
      @jons7054 Před 3 lety

      I believe it's part of the ditra heat specification. Kerdi goes over the ditra heat since they don't want the wires in the water.

    This is beautiful 😍🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️that tub.
    Question Sal, to prevent noise from running water and when we turn on the faucets, what can be used between the walls and the boards?? We have a very small house and the bathroom is between the two bedrooms and every time you turn on the shower the dogs get startled and start barking like crazy because the piping and the water or the flushing of a toilet or any little ping sound comes right through the walls. 🤦🏻‍♀️ if insulation was supposed to be added in between walls and I was supposed to ask my contractor at the time I did not know that, so now I just have hollow walls.
    I do plan on having my steam shower redone thank you for the links that you sent me.
    Just wondering if I can ask for anything to be installed between the walls so we don’t have to go through that noise again.
    Oh lord see those are big tiles on the ceiling as well.
    I was told by my fired contractor that my tiles would be to heavy.
    So for the future I was thinking of looking into tiny size mesh tiles, is this true would big tiles eventually start to fall?
    PS I appreciate the classical type music to the video it’s very soothing and easy to watch.🙏🏼

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  Před 3 lety +1

      Insulation will help dampen the noise to some degree, so have them install some wher you want to muffle the noise. As far as tile on the ceiling, there is no reason to restrict the size of the tile. Proper mortar mixing and thinset coverage will hold the tiles in place and they will never fall. czcams.com/video/Q3WXZqezOjs/video.html

    I noticed you didn't add any kerdi pipe seal or valve seals on any penetrations. are they not really required if you get the kerdi board cut tight enough?

    • @travlangley1
      @travlangley1 Před 2 lety +1

      All valve trims come with a rubber or neoprene seal… I always add clear caulk around the trim as an added effort…certain valves don’t match the kerdi seal ..IE the Delta r22000. The only advantage I see is that the rubber damn would prevent water from rolling into the wall cavity if you have a failure on the trim seal. In my opinion the opposite or back wall takes on much more water than the valve side.
