Mythbusters figured out that if they tied the lifejacket under the door they would've both been out of the water enough to survive. Comfortable no, survive yes.

Jacques, remember physics. Jack's added weight on the door would have killed them both.
If you ever go to the Titanic museum in Branson Mo you can actually feel how cold the water was that faithful night. They have a timer to see how long you last. That water is cold enough that moving around even a little bit hurts.
My point is that yes they both could have been on the door but with how cold the water was, every time on of them went back into the water it would be like needles sticking you. So I think it’s more about cold pain than anything.
With the floating door, I always thought it was a buoyancy issue.
When Rose was on the door and Jack tried to get on as well, it started to sink.

For flips sake. In titanic, you can see he tries to get on the door and it doesn't support them both. It sinks. So in order to keep rose out of the water, jack could not get on the damn door!

I really have no clue, but that stopped me from even hoping to go to the one here and see y’all.
It really depends on the location of the fair. It wouldn't hurt to email or call any Ren fairs near you that you want to attend.
So lovely that I had to watch it twice.
