It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”

Absolutely phenomenal band one of the greatest bands ever, LiveAid at Wembley Stadium London concert to raise funds for a terrible famine in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 Africa, LiveAid twinned with a concert in Philadelphia USA 🇺🇸, 92 thousand crowd in Philadelphia, 72 thousand crowd in Wembley London, this was the first time in history that a event like this has ever happened, both concerts were televised around the world watched by 2 billion people, top artists from around the world performed and each artist had a 20 minute slot to perform, Queen came on stage and with their phenomenal flamboyant performance stole the show they were the best performers on the day, Freddie Mercury had the crowds in the palm of his hand,I actually attended LiveAid in 1985 and also another concert at Wembley Stadium in 1986 , and later in 1986 attended a Queen concert in Knebworth Park United Kingdom 🇬🇧 the crowd was estimated to be 200, 000 fans, knebworth was Freddie’s very last live performance ever, but Freddie carried on writing and performing in the studio right until he passed away in 1991 of AIDS related issues, he is was the greatest vocalist and performer ever and is surely missed, great reaction thanks 🙏

They had loads of singers and groups at Live Aid but Queen are the ones that stood out. Freddie was told by a doctor not to perform because he had a bad throat. However, he did and Queen smashed it. Each act was given a time slot and if they went over that time they would be cut off. However, Queen sang the most songs and finished on time.

Most of these copies on CZcams don't have the official Live Aid finale song. The organizers had Freddie and Brian come on stage at the end of the concert and sing one of the best songs you hardly ever hear them sing, "Is This The World We Created". Try to find it on CZcams. I bought the dvd of their concert in Montreal, and Queen at Live Aid is at the end of the dvd, including the show finale.

Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara to British Indian parents on the island of Zanzibar. He was known as 'Fred' rather than Farrokh even before the family came to London, and signed himself as Fred Bulsara on letters until 1970, when he changed his name to Mercury.

i get emotional too when i watch freddie doing this performace. his energy, his heart and charisma pours out of him so beautifully, it makes me cry; he was ill the day he performed. i never took voice in school so i can't tell he is ill! and i have seen comments that say you can tell he was ill; but i can't! and i have a big Fine arts background. Freddy was a god! and sadly we lost him not too long after this concert very very sadly. We all misssss this GOD!!!
Not alot of people who watch it today realize how amazing queen sounded at this time; they weren't really touring together and were not doing well together as band mates. everyone was clapping and going nuts when he started radio GA GA! i always cry when he sings it; i feel him soso much. i was little and remember watching it on tv with my folks. elton john ran to freddie hugging them when they finished this set during the day (they did stuff at night but not famous stuff). elton was screaming how the phones were lit up like nuts to collect $ for the live aid charity! and how much they stole the show!

I often wonder if anyone of the 80,000 people inside Wembley Stadium really gaged and understood that they were witnessing what is pretty UNIVERSALLY acknowledged and agreed the greatest ever live performance in the entire history of Rock and Roll.
By the same token my above question/statement could easily said about any one of the 2 billion+ people watching the event being televised live. I will say that I think nothing was lost on Freddie Mercury because you end up catching him a few times throughout Queen's set when he's completely out of breath and looking out deep into the crowd and I get the feeling he kind of knew that this performance was going to go down in history.

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person!
NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience.
NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?).
NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him.
SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW:
nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves!
LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)!
I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports!

I wish to God CZcams would take this blasted version down and leave reactors with the proper, full version! Not your fault, my dear, but damn, it's so frustrating when the end is cut off like that!

Stopping it to talk while Freddie is doing his vocal warm up with the crowd is the same as stopping to talk in the middle of a guitar solo. Frowned upon by real music lovers, a massive no no for reactors !

Totally incorrect to say at 1:29 "not the audience singing along with him" the audience was definitely singing along with him!
    Such a bad review 😪

This is Queen, not Freddie. Freddie solo wasn't really very good.

me being part of that generation im feeling sorry for your generation.. we used to think that you will change the world and make it better... we couldnt be more wrong... your generation, the actual generation is tearing apart everything... no respect at all for nothing, no desire to learn anything... i thanks the gods i will be dead soon enough.......QUEEN WORKS!

No.... I appreciate the tears. But you can't stop the video every time to "talk". Queen deserve respect especially if it's your first time seeing them. FIRST you see everything and then I listen to you even for an hour!! But after! (and then you can't hear your microphone well...)
