This concert was seen by 72,000 people in the stadium and 1.9 billion on TV. I was one of them, 14 years old and watching with my parents in our living room in Minnesota. Queen wasn't even supposed to be a major act, but from the moment Freddie pranced onto the stage (you can see the band's timer ticking in the video, they were on a STRICT schedule!) he started a one-on-one relationship with everyone watching either at the venue or across the planet. With all the improv and audience participation, they stepped off that stage TO THE SECOND when they were supposed to and made it look effortless.
It's been said that LiveAid was the perfect audience for Freddie Mercury...the whole world! Thank God this was recorded and people who hadn't even been born can appreciate it. RIP

This was a concert for charity. Most of the performers “phoned it in”. Queen gave it their all and it showed.

He was incapable of performing in any manner than, "full out", as we say in the ballet world. Freddie gives leaves it ALL on the stage along with heart!

What makes this performance even more impressive is that Freddie was diagnosed with laryngitis the week before the concert and was advised by his doctor to cancel the performance. Freddie ignored the advice and went on to make history.

If you have the ear for it, you can hear it in his voice. What's beautiful though is that it isn't a negative. He knows his voice so well that he adjusts what he does and still delivers the best live performance. He's the greatest example of an artist knowing their instrument and using it to its fullest extent.

Oh man, 37 years later and even though he's left us, Freddie Mercury still plasters the biggest smiles on our faces! 😁😆😁 And Sarah, have no doubt, your smile reaches all the way from your adopted country All The Way to the USA. Thank you for such a wonderful, happy time 🌹💞👼😊

I was 12 when Freddie Mercury formed Queen. The Music that was coming out week after week was amazing. lt was a new song on the radio and a new band non stop. For those of you who are listening to performers of today's time, I want you to notice one thing when listening to the old Rock & Roll, no one is wearing hearing devices, they know the songs by heart. Not one mistake is made. No one is lip sinking the words!

Sarah, to put Queen's great perfromance here in context: "Live Aid was a benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof [of Boomtown Rats] and Midge Ure [of Ultravox] to raise further funds for relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984...Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, UK, attended by about 72,000 people [where it was introduced by Prince Charles and Lady Diana] and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, US, attended by 89,484 people.
On the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative were held in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia and West Germany. It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 percent of the world population." Performers included Elton John, Paul McCartney of the Beatles, B.B. King, Joan Baez, The Four Tops, The Who, Phil Collins, Sting, REO Speedwagon, Crosby, Stills & Nash, U2, Bryan Adams, Black Sabbath, The Beach Boys, Dire Straits, Boomtown Rats, Spandau Ballet, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Albert Collins, Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Santana, Madonna, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Kenny Loggins, The Cars, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Duran Duran, Dione Warwick, Patti Labelle, Hall & Oates, Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, Bo Diddley, Rick Springfield, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.

It would be another good song to review. I enjoyed your reaction.
