I'm an Aussie, and I can tell you, we have just as many confusing ways of saying things that Americans wouldn't get either. What Americans call a drug store we would call a Chemist (or pharmacy), but for some things the younger generations are more Americanised, so they will say cookie even though a real Aussir knows they mean biscuit.
everybody is getting americanised.
cookies and biscuits are different though
biscuits are the harder ones that you dip in tea and cookies are the soft and crumbly ones

This actually works both ways. I'm an American, and this is teaching me what the British call some words. (I already knew a few from Harry Potter, but now my vocabulary has expanded a little bit.) Thanks, Chewkz!

@Osmium Geode nope. At least in Chile we learn UK english. But they also teach that there are differents words for different english.
"Americans" are all people who live in the American continent, not just in the United States.

I’m American and when I was ringing up two guys orders (one was Australian and one was English) everything went fine until the English guy asked for water. I was trying so hard to figure out what he meant, but I just couldn’t get it. The Australian had to translate for me. 😂😂😂
I think I would have understood if he said “wo’ah,” but he didn’t-he said “woo-ah”. How am I supposed to know what that means. The only letter he prounounced was the ‘w’.
Thats probably a specific british accent that you're talking about, most of us sound clearer than what you're describing. I mean australians also say water and not "wader" like americans so...
I'm American from Chicago. just finished watching Top Boy from the U.K and this had me in years. I had to go through a learning curve because their slang is so different. Thank God for the internet/Google. Great show by the way Fam!!!!!!!!!!
