The U.S. definitely says napkin I’m confused? 🧐 I don’t think we associate that with nappy because we don’t use that term for babies we say diapers. Tissue is associated with toilet tissue or a box of tissues for your nose. Where is Hunter from because “Fam” has been said in the U.S. since the 80s 90s and the word “G” originally comes from older American slang too.
I’ve made this comment before because Hunter does not strike me as American.

Californian here and we definitely say napkins. I don’t know where in the US Hunter is from but it’s pretty common to call them napkins everywhere.

Woahhhh. Napkins in the US are definitely what you use to wipe your mouths when eating. Tissues are what you use to blow your nose. Diapers are… diapers. We don’t call them Nappies or napkins.

As an American I disagree with most of what the American is saying
I think I speak for most Americans when I say we don’t associate napkins with diapers. We associate napkins with a type of paper (sometimes cloth) we get at restaurants to wipe your mouths and hands with. I think this guy is thinking of word nappy which for UK means diaper. USA doesn’t use nappy for diaper and nappy in the USA is a derogatory term.
Tissue is usually a softer paper we use wipe our noses, tears or our butts. However the paper we put inside gifts is also called tissue.
I’m not convinced this guy lived the USA that long.

Not to be rude, but I'm not convinced Hunter is born and raised in the United States. I disagree with most of what he said. In particular, I've never in my life heard anyone say napkin or nappy in reference to a baby's diaper here in the U.S.
Also the way he referred to the United States as "the states". People here usually say "the U.S." or "the United States". His American accent is very good, but yeah... I think he grew up somewhere else maybe

My fellow American please understand that we live in a big country and just because you don’t say ‘the States’ doesn’t mean that it’s the same for every American. I live in a state that borders Canada and we do say back in the States, when speaking to Canadians in Canada.
If you’ve traveled anywhere outside the U.S. but stayed within the Americas, most if not all Americans know not to say I live in America because wherever you are visiting the locals will tell you that they also live in America and they don’t appreciate that we’ve highjacked the name of America as our own, given that there’s a North America, Central America and South America. It’s also used when speaking with other Americans while traveling outside the U.S. To say that no one in the U.S. says, ‘the States’ in reference to our country is false. And yes, we also use USA and United States.
Most states refer to the place where one buys alcohol as the liquor store. In North Carolina they call it the “ABC store,” in Pennsylvania it’s the “state store,” in Michigan they call it the “party store,” and in Massachusetts it is known as the “packie.” I happen to know the different terms because I’ve either been to that state or have friends that are from those states. The point that I’m trying to make is that we live in a big country and to assume that someone is not American or didn’t grow up here doesn’t prove your point. That’s the beauty of our country and we’re so lucky that we live in such a massive country. Believe it or not there are people that may not have experienced the same things that the majority of us may have experienced.

They never mentioned that. They have other reasons as well too. It’s not just that one thing that makes her say that about him he just seems clueless on everything they talked about that is pretty well known/standard throughout most of the United States 🤷🏽♀️ We may be a big varied country but somethings are pretty standard here and not knowing diapers/nappies and the 50 unions vs the 50 states are pretty weird.

No one really says gangster unless you are referring to like alcapone or something like that. It’s usually thug, hoodlum or street nigga.
For the American drivers license we usually have a driver's training course in public school, or you can go to driver's school before taking the tests. We always have a long written test to show that you know the rules and laws. Followed by an in-car driving test. And you need to retake the written and sometimes in-car drivers test every few years. But this may vary between states. My understanding is that it is much harder and more expensive in Europe to get your license. I have been able to drive in France and England with just my passport and American drivers license before. It was a challenge driving in England because both the driver's position, gearshift lever, and the lane directions are reversed. But it was fairly easy to adapt to. As are roundabouts. Still, I own manual transmission cars, whereas most younger drivers only know how to drive an automatic transmission car. It is a joke in the U.S. that the best anti-theft device you can have for your car is a manual transmission, because young thieves won't know how to drive them.
Why don’t they know?
I’m from Michigan I don’t know if the driver’s license test is different state to state but we had to do the parallel parking test and if we hit one cone we would fail immediately, if you passed that you would do your road test. At least that’s how it was when I took my test.
I live in Maryland and it was the same for us at least when I got licensed. They recently changed it so no parallel parking (dumb decision)
But we had to go through all signals and functions, pull in, back in, parallel park, then road test and answer questions about signs. Took about an hour for mine.
We say Fam and G, not accurate but very entertaining.
I’ve never heard a Briton call London “the London”. I suspect Emmanuel is of British heritage but was raised somewhere else (Korea maybe?)

Oh that cream one made me think of a story my parents had from the 50s. They were at a international convention held at a hotel. All the participants were staying at the hotel. There was an American woman and a British man who had struck up quite a friendship. At the end of the evening the British man says to the American woman "I’ll knock you up in the morning“. Of course her face was one of utter shock and horror while the man could not understand what elicited such a reaction. The rest of the people sitting at the table were laughing uncontrollably as they had picked up on the miscommunication. They finally explained to them that he had said that he was going to come knock at her door and she heard I’m going to get you pregnant.

I'm not a fan of Hunter. There were a lot of terms used in the US and he was clueless on them, like the terms "G" and "fam." They're very common in the United States especially within the African American community. For him to not know the terms makes me think he either spent most of his life in another country or he grew up very privileged and apart from most of American society.

Well i live in UK and always heard "serviettes " and had strange looks when asked for napkins and tissue is for blowing your nose.
I can’t speak for every state but most people where I’ve from take a driver’s education class in high school. We had to practice on a simulator and pass a written test before we could get out learners permits. Permits only allow you to drive with a licensed adult with you. Once you have a permit At my school, we had a student driver car where the instructor had his own set of brakes. If he felt you were ready he would take you to the DMV during school hours to take the test using the school vehicle. So by the time you go for your license test a lot of us have already had our driving skills evaluated by an instructor for some time. Also taking drivers ed makes your parents insurance cheaper and the class is free unless you take it in the summer. I finally got my license at 17 which is considered late bloomer where I’m from. 😂 Most people’s parents take them to a parking lot to practice before they are driving age but my family didn’t. Eventually my uncle helped me. Nowadays the fam (we actually do say fam) wants me to do the long distance drives while they sleep.

I never heard of anyone blackmailing someone for their organs. It is pretty easy to get your license in the US since everyone drives.
That part I assumed was an exaggeration for the sake of humor. I know of an organ donation advocacy program that puts out campaigns begging people to sign their license to donate. I would rather not sign and let my family look at my state and decide.

Not that they're not allowed, but it could be problematic. Since he's not a part of the community speaking AAVE (basically African American accent) he doesn't know the nuances and it'd be weird analysing it. I do agree it was weirdly edited in this video though because that clip wasn't even about AAVE rather than a simple confusion of cream and lotion.

It's not. At least in Washington State, we have actual road tests, and until you're eighteen, a driver's education course is required. You have to pass a written exam and a road exam where you drive around a city, parallel park, and back around a corner.

Driver's test in China is difficult as well. We have 4 exams. The first and the last are traffic rule exams, and 2nd and 3rd are driving exams within various road conditions.
US driving license is easy to get because DMV is commonly so packed even when making an appointment you have to wait a month in most places and driving in the US is not hard at all
Must depend on the place. Where I’m from the overwhelming majority of people get their licenses as teenagers and the high school driver’s ed teachers take us like five at a time to the DMV during school hours. The teachers make the appointments. You have to have a car to do the test and the teacher allowed us to use the school’s vehicle because not all teens have cars or access to their parents cars for that time of day.
That’s so how some Americans would act with the British accent.

I think the lack of stick shift cars is a generational thing. People who are a little older probably drove manual/stick shift cars here in the US. They've pretty much gone out of style here, so youngish/young people don't have any experience with them. I'm and old Gen Xer and I drove manual transmission cars in the 80s and 90s.

plenty for sure. The written exam is the longest part usually but I don’t think it’s usually done the same day as the driving exam.
Actually getting a license is a multi step process. You have to pass a written exam and if you are a minor usually have to spend months of driving with a learners permit. And the overwhelming majority of Americans take a drivers education class in high school.
In my experience in traveling abroad Americans tend to be better drivers than a lot of places I’ve been too. I closed my eyes in Icca Peru and Marrakech Morocco in some taxis because I was terrified and sure I’d die at any moment. I don’t know if they didn’t have traffic rules or just ignored them.

Don’t worry. The driving tests are definitely not just 5 min long, and there are more parts to the test than that as well.
@@MrJovon321 I think in some places people are kind of forced to drive “crazy” because of their infrastructure isn’t adequate to super the amount of traffic. For example sometimes while in Peru I noticed the roads didn’t always have clearly defined painted lines to determine lanes.

I think it's rude for people in the comments to say Hunter isn't American, but I do agree that his answers imply that he doesn't know much beyond maybe a single region or state. Not the greatest representation since some of what he said was flat out not true about the majority of the US. Maybe adding footnotes to the vids at certain points (i.e. "most of the US refers to diapers as diapers, not napkins or nappy") at the bottom
