Being an "Old dude" in punk, we're getting at an age where we're going to see a lot of our favorite bands stop going. I will say, getting old isn't a factor in most. NOFX were the band that got me into punk. I made friends with a new guy at school when I was 14, and they were his favourite band, and that changed my life. So when I heard the news, I was so sad. I still haven't gotten the chance to see them in all these years. They rarely visit Australia, and when they do, they don't come to my state, so I'm hoping they come to Aus on their final tour. And yeah, from what I've heard, they are breaking up. Smelly has talked in a recent podcast about how frustrated he's been with Mike and how irresponsible he is, and that the band are more co-workers than friends. Really sucks to hear, but I wish them all the best. And like you said, no one can take their legacy away from them, undoubtedly one of the most important punk bands

The idea of a corny "reunion tour" with past members and friends like the Gimmes doing NoFX covers is 100% in Mike's head I'm sure. Wife and I are Holidaying from Australia in the USA soon. Heading to Punk In The Park festival then flying back to see NOFX in Australia in December playing (Punk in Drublic ) in full.
I saw NoFX in the early 90s in a tiny little all-ages hall. This was before "Punk in Drublic" and I had a friend who was very much into them. I saw a lot of cool bands in tiny places at that time - Green Day at a skate ramp, etc. Most of this was before Nirvana broke and made the entire scene more mainstream. I sort of grew into NoFX, not really becoming a fan until "Heavy Petting Zoo" around '96. But I find them to be interesting now and have always kept an ear pointed toward them
Seen them more times than I can remember. Always a great time I really hope they don't stop, like Mike said GG ALL IN... NOFX wrote The Decline which is a 19 minute epic, masterpiece of punk rock. Something nobody else has done. Seeing them play that then punk n drublic back to back was probably the most memorable show.
Finn: So let me get this straight. You think 90s skate punk has credibility in the scene? Me: I do, and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't. Love your work, man. Hate to see it happen to NOFX. but like you said. 40 fuckin years of working their ass off.
I was a little into punk already when I found and started playing my dad's Sex Pistols album at age 14, but I really got into it when I saw NOFX live at a festival in 1995 when I was 16. Been with them ever since. I'm a bit sad that NOFX are ending, but it's been a great run and everything needs to end some time. I'm in my 40s myself now so it's ok, it's been nice.
Man, u ever read that hepatitis bathtub? What an awesome book. Cool and disgusting stories lol. I'll always be a fan. 2001 or 2002, pump up the valuum, I got put on to, basically the 10th grade and it was a life changer. Them, screeching weasel, suicide machines and dead Kennedys kicked me off. The latter more so than the former.
Anytime any band say "in the future, this will be our LAST tour/record/whatever" They're just yelling LOOK AT ME, or trying to hype some particular sales target .....But yelling LOOK AT ME while pretending not to say it is pretty much the NOFX genre dramallama style since day one
Loved the freeform video format, man. As for NOFX, bummer I guess but I haven’t really cared about their releases since like, the early 2000’s. I love them, I have everything they’ve put out (and it’s all good) but so many of these elder statesmen of punk keep churning stuff out and it becomes less of an event. They could tour forever on the mid-90’s catalog, but if they want to go out on their own terms, more power to ‘em. If they want to do a one-off reunion tour in 10 years, I’ll be there.
It’s crazy, that backstage passport episode with him was like 2005. I’m sure there is quite a toll taken on them and I hope they call it quits at the top. Fat mikes fat mic is cool.
Me and my girlfriend went to PID a while ago now, and ever since then, theyve been our band!!! (specifically the song eat the meek), I mean theyve always been a staple for me since I grew up on this shit, but theyve met even more to me ever since then.. Were planning to go to their last show no matter where and when NO MATTER WHAT.
They always released new shit, and they did touring right, like three months on and nine off, so they’re not burned out. Actually, they basically did everything right, telling radio and mtv to fuck off in the early 90s, never signing with a major label, they were still able to make a great living with no pressure from some suits who tell them when to tour and cut their music to shit. Mike always says they’re all fuck ups who can’t play, but they’re all very talented, especially mike who’s written close to 400 songs over the years, produced many other bands, written a musical, and the decline is a fucking masterpiece, the guys a genius. El Hefe is awesome on guitar, and probably a better singer lol. Smelly is a drummers drummer. And Melvin, you know, he does his thing, yelling and playing three chords like a mother fucker. The early years were chaotic with some guys in and out, but once Hefe joined it just clicked. They paced themselves almost like they knew they wanted it to last this long, picking their spots carefully, while also not really caring about what anyone else was doing. They’ve given a blueprint to any band that wants to follow it, but there will never be another band like them. Sad to see them go, but honestly, the amount of music they’ve left behind is enough to satisfy any fan. Been a fan since early 90s, and actually found out only a while ago that Mike was born in and lived in Newton, Ma for the first 5 years of his life, I grew up in the next town over, just a cool fact as I always assumed he was born in Cali.
One of the bits of speculation comes from the Dopey interview with Smelly (uploaded about 7 months ago), where he explains that they had to give Mike an ultimatum - they said he needs to get clean or the band ends. Smelly also said that they didn’t want to do this because they couldn’t retire from the band as they aren’t rich guys so still need the band to make money…
I completely agree, I think the only way NOFX ends(barring a death) is if the rest of the band get sick of Fat Mike. They could probably make a decent living just doing the European and American festival circuit each year. The song 60%(reprise) sums it up correctly when he say "We don't have management, we get to play loaded/and only 3 months a year/Some years we just take off, vacations are a write off, and so is goin' out". I really think it was a throw away line meant to tell Canadian's they're retiring from coming back to Canada.
I am hoping there will be a big farewell tour with all the fat wreak records bands past and present (obviously can’t get everyone) and friends do like a warped tour. It will be a fucking party.
If it IS true, I am a very sad boy today...😢 Having been arguably industry standards for as long as NoFx has been, I feel like they have the right to have the best of their work behind them to some extent. I'm in no way saying they can put out a real barn-burner of an album at literally any time of course. I'm just very grateful to them for the many, many years of amazing music.
Mike talked about the final tour in a recent interview with a couple dudes that’s on CZcams. He said the tour is going to go into 2024 and the shows are going to be two weeks apart. They are going to be very long sets. He also said he has a lot of other songs recorded for NOFX so they might actually be putting out more records after they break up 🤷🏼 Darby Crashing is on one of the 2019 7” of the month records….and double album vinyl won’t be out until April. Oh, and Mike said he wants to do stand up after they break up.
i think that it is completely possible if not likely that they are breaking up, but as far as ive seen, mind you i might be missing something, besides that comment that mike made, no one has confirmed that they are breaking up. the most that mike has said on the matter was reposting other peoples speculations on instagram. i dont think that anyone in the band has confirmed that their up coming album is their last and i cant see how they would put out an album and then just disappear. if i had to make a prediction, i think that this break up might just be an end to consistent touring and albums while still popping up to play a show here and there or a fest if they are breaking up for good though, I thank them for all the music and helping my find my place in the punk scene
This is such sad news. Been listening to NOFX since I was in High School (1988). NOFX is the only band I have never seen play. I've meet them at other shows, just never there own.
I think at least SOME of this has to do with the blowback from VEGAS, and them not being allowed to play PunkRockBowling. I know i was upset when that was all going down
Personally I think their last great album was War on Errorism. Every album since has had a few good songs on it. But nothing like the powerhouse albums of previous years. But I think it’s an okay thing that they stop now. And mike isn’t gonna stop making music at all. Time for them to do other things. Just hope they do a good big tour to finish things. I’d like to see them one last time.
I love NOFX; been a fan since 92, but I think it’s time for them to call it a day. Fat Mike needs to just focus on all of his future projects, podcast, family, and sobriety, if that’s still a thing. It’s a miracle that man is still alive.
Single album and double album were originally supposed to be an actual double album but with the way the world has been going mike split it in two so not necessarily b sides
Unless you are older it’s tough to understand that you just really sick of playing the same shit with the same dudes. Let them go with dignity and talking to each other to follow their present interests and live life on their terms
I agree that not all their albums are as good as their best albums, I also agree that they haven't released a real stinker. I really liked First Ditch Effort from their newer records.
NOFX was my second show ever back in the 90s, so no way am I missing this last tour (got tix already). Gonna be a Fuck Shit Stack of awesomeness. I love neatly placed bookends in my life.
NOFX are punk legends. You can't say punk without a reference to them. A lot of us grew up watching Fat Mike and Melvin and tuned out playing style to this. I got nothing but huge respect for all of them.
For me NOFX started with Heavy Petting ZOO in 96. I had lucky to heard then in one radio program on RMF FM station and I recorded bunch of songs from the program. I could heard them before on MTv Europa in first half of 90's. In that radio show often they had pra-premiers of albums. I made many VA albums thanx that station. In that way I gott also Sepulturas Roots, one of my favoriter album of 96 and ever. In 00's I lost intresting in their music becouse it was to polished for me. I like melodic stuff too but played with kick in ass or wirdness. Only sometimes I was lisened to them to now. For sure very important band and for many poeple they were and are gateway to the RockNRoll world 🤘 Well deserved pension😝
Of course as soon as I start loving a band they wanna break up in 2023, but I don't think it's a break up more so a hiatus. These guys live on the road and don't know how to do much anything else.
Maybe it's just semantics, but why does everyone keep calling it a break-up? The term just has negative connotations...seems more like just retiring the band is what they're doing. Can't go forever, after 40 years you'd think you could just stop if you wanted and call it a success til the end not a break-up.
Double album isnt the final album, got an album coming out mid 2023 kent confirmed to annual subs of the pateron, Also Double album has 8 tracks that are already out there, most were on the 7 inch of the month club so you can get a feel for the album now if you want
The fix, go see them Asbury Park Punk in Drublic in the afternoon and then off to Manhattan to catch Fat Mike with the Gimmee Gimmees . It’s that simple.
My first show was a NOFX show at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA back in 2000..I haven’t listen to any of their recent stuff..I stop following their music after 2006..they are the Best punk band in my opinion..
I mean I don't know if I really called a breakup I'm really just getting into this video and posting this so you might say something about it later but it's not a breakup it's just an end. There's no hard feelings with the members it's just we're going to stop making music
Why do bands always say, "We're calling it quits, folks"? Why cant they just say, "We're gonna try not doing anything for a while. If you dont see us in a while, we probably quit or died or something"? Because here's what can happen as it has before. They announce their final show. Fans buy tickets and all kinds of memorabilia. Sometimes that memorabilia gains value as the bands music hasnt died. Hardcore fans get offered big bux for their stuff, but wont disloyal the band by selling it. Then, the band decides they wanna come out of retirement. They do a bunch of shows then announce they're really quitting this time and do a last show. Now, you have two sets of memorabilia of their last show. But obviously the first last show wasnt their last show, so now all that memorabilia is worthless. How fair is that to the fans that remained loyal?
Every band eventually hast to call it quits.. most people don’t want their favourite bands to become embarrassing from advanced age like the Rolling Stones lol 😆
@@lurchilurch5507 I agree, every album after has a few good songs on them, I just thing their last album that was back-to-back belters was So long and thanks for all the shoes.
Didn't even know they were still around, don't feel any shock or dismay 😐. Saw them at ABC No Rio in NYC long time ago and thought they totally sucked.
I think they might be taking a page from the Jerry Seinfeld playbook; bowing out while you’re still on top allows you to remain on top forever in the minds of your fans. But I really hope they don’t. Even their worst albums have had at least three awesome songs on them. If they put out a mediocre album every couple years I’d prefer that to not ever being able to look forward to a NOFX album again.
Definately Fat Mike will still be around in other projects etc I'm sure. Have alot of respect for what they made their band, as an older dude saw them late 80s alot opening for bad religion and they really did kinda suck lol and were annoying and they grew musically and were able to build a great fan base around the world and an awesome record label.

I'll always be a fan. 2001 or 2002, pump up the valuum, I got put on to, basically the 10th grade and it was a life changer. Them, screeching weasel, suicide machines and dead Kennedys kicked me off. The latter more so than the former.
I'll believe it when I see it
Anytime any band say "in the future, this will be our LAST tour/record/whatever" They're just yelling LOOK AT ME, or trying to hype some particular sales target .....But yelling LOOK AT ME while pretending not to say it is pretty much the NOFX genre dramallama style since day one
First time I saw NOFX live they opened with the decline and it blew my little mind
Great to that new punk blood is still hearing NOFX, but fuck that makes me feel old AF.
All bands especially punk bands always do that. They announce they're breaking up then you see them playing again within a year.
Keep up the good work
One of the all time best bands. I'm hoping they do Portland one last time, itd be nice to see them again
Been a fan since early
90s, and actually found out only a while ago that Mike was born in and lived in Newton, Ma for the first 5 years of his life, I grew up in the next town over, just a cool fact as I always assumed he was born in Cali.
Heavy petting zoo and wolves are my favs I think.
Oh, and Mike said he wants to do stand up after they break up.
i think that it is completely possible if not likely that they are breaking up, but as far as ive seen, mind you i might be missing something, besides that comment that mike made, no one has confirmed that they are breaking up. the most that mike has said on the matter was reposting other peoples speculations on instagram. i dont think that anyone in the band has confirmed that their up coming album is their last and i cant see how they would put out an album and then just disappear.
if i had to make a prediction, i think that this break up might just be an end to consistent touring and albums while still popping up to play a show here and there or a fest
if they are breaking up for good though, I thank them for all the music and helping my find my place in the punk scene
Yea I like this format. 👍
Id greatly appreciate a review on christian rock.
This is such sad news. Been listening to NOFX since I was in High School (1988). NOFX is the only band I have never seen play. I've meet them at other shows, just never there own.
Thanks
I love NOFX and I do care about their new music. I would love to know they are staying around for some more years
I think at least SOME of this has to do with the blowback from VEGAS, and them not being allowed to play PunkRockBowling.
I know i was upset when that was all going down
They help a lot of newer bands with their label. The roads gotta get old after a while
NOFX FOREVER!!!!!!
Haven’t really payed attention since the decline.
You should do a video on Sammytown.
Unless you are older it’s tough to understand that you just really sick of playing the same shit with the same dudes. Let them go with dignity and talking to each other to follow their present interests and live life on their terms
Awesome
I agree that not all their albums are as good as their best albums, I also agree that they haven't released a real stinker. I really liked First Ditch Effort from their newer records.
NOFX was my second show ever back in the 90s, so no way am I missing this last tour (got tix already). Gonna be a Fuck Shit Stack of awesomeness. I love neatly placed bookends in my life.
cue - ‘everything in moderation (especially moderation)’
That band is an absolute part of my life…🐸🍺🔪🔥
NOFX are punk legends.
For sure very important band and for many poeple they were and are gateway to the RockNRoll world 🤘
Well deserved pension😝
Theyll come back together once they need more money
Of course as soon as I start loving a band they wanna break up in 2023, but I don't think it's a break up more so a hiatus. These guys live on the road and don't know how to do much anything else.
Never got to see them. They played down the road from me this summer, but my son started having seizures that week. Wasn't meant to be...
You still got a chance next year dude. 👍 hope your son is good.
Maybe it's just semantics, but why does everyone keep calling it a break-up? The term just has negative connotations...seems more like just retiring the band is what they're doing. Can't go forever, after 40 years you'd think you could just stop if you wanted and call it a success til the end not a break-up.
I love their old old shit. After Pump Up the Valium I felt like. They kinda got stale. But Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies are as a killer concept…
War on Errorism was quite cool too. Boy, the Separation of Church and Skate!
@@jipke actually, how to you follow The Decline??
A masterpiece…
Double album isnt the final album, got an album coming out mid 2023 kent confirmed to annual subs of the pateron, Also Double album has 8 tracks that are already out there, most were on the 7 inch of the month club so you can get a feel for the album now if you want
Oh shit I'm gonna check that out thanks man
The fix, go see them Asbury Park Punk in Drublic in the afternoon and then off to Manhattan to catch Fat Mike with the Gimmee Gimmees . It’s that simple.
Breaking up or retiring?
Single Album was never supposed to be released. It was supposed to be a Double Album but things happened. Fat mike did an interview about it
My first show was a NOFX show at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA back in 2000..I haven’t listen to any of their recent stuff..I stop following their music after 2006..they are the Best punk band in my opinion..
40 year run ain't bad man
good video mate. I do love NOFX but I don't think they have had a good album since 97.
Yeah 90s NOFX was the golden years. Some good stuff afterwards too though!
@@lurchilurch5507 I agree, every album after has a few good songs on them, I just thing their last album that was back-to-back belters was So long and thanks for all the shoes.
I suppose thats how we'll go out . . . . Played out . . . And way after our prime.
Wolves In Wolves clothing. 60% reprise
Damn this is a me too
Didn't even know they were still around, don't feel any shock or dismay 😐. Saw them at ABC No Rio in NYC long time ago and thought they totally sucked.
I love nofx and was a huge fan as a teen (90's) but they jumped the shark 2 decades ago.
Agreed, War on Errorism is the last album I can listen to most of the way through, and even that one has some throw away songs.
@@happycat4838 yep
They are releasing another album summer of 2023
I think they might be taking a page from the Jerry Seinfeld playbook; bowing out while you’re still on top allows you to remain on top forever in the minds of your fans.
Look what happened to the Ramones within ten years of their split.
Wow
No more new shit... just the hits! 💪😠👊
