As a person who loves folk punk, "normal" punk, and metal, I don't understand why folk punk is so hated, punk is supposed to go against and adress the problems with society and/or government (as far as i know), folk punk still follows that, so I don't see the problem other than punks wanting harsh music, but still, you shouldn't hate over an opinion

I like folk punk because at the core it's DIY music with similar sentiments to Punk. I understand some people not liking it, but I don't think scoffing at it makes you cool. Shows a lot of elitism from people I imagine are fitting a punk rock stereotype and only consuming Punk as a genre. Those people are missing out by not being open minded and giving it a chance.

I also love Send More Paramedics as I love the zombie and horror genres. Ratos De Porão has crossed over from the punk genre to heavier and faster stuff, I think their album "Brazil" is a must listen for any crossover thrash fan. :)

I had stopped keeping up with them, and recently had been listening to some of their newer (to me) music while putting together a spotify playlist. I couldnt believe what absolute garbage they had turned into. I really dont give a fuck when Punks do bad things, I'll still listen to their old albums, and talk shit about their later stuff.

Kentucky actually had a good scene back in the day . My buddies band Disdain did a split with Disrupt and another great band here was Ungrateful . Check them both out if you can . Plus a bunch of bands played here like Naked Aggression , Hell Nation , Apocalypse Hoboken and a bunch more . My band played with Phobia and Wormrot a grindcore band from Singapore ! Fun night .

I think Discharge had/has a huge influence on the crust scene but Amebix were the Godfathers of crust..

Nothing is better than prime Bad Religion. But the first few releases are pretty bad. But..I guess you could say that they were just kids.

Stimulant is my current favorite very extreme band. They owe a lot of their sound to PV, but they bring enough of their own to the table that I'd rather just call their sound extreme music than attach a genre.

Looking back, the crazy thing to me is that I could discover Bad Religion so early, living very far from California in the Paris suburbs! a bandmate that was older than me hipped me to them around 90-91 and so I bought a vinyl copy of No Control. that independent network of shops/distributors/labels/zines worked really amazingly well! It also probably helped that France and especially the Paris area were going through a punk rock boom of their own....("rock alternatif").

I honestly don't think I've ever met someone into punk who doesn't like The Misfits. I was really thinking about this yesterday. I have one friend who's more into Oi! and hardcore than anything else, and I realized I've never heard him mention the misfits ever. SO I texted him to ask him "Do you not like the misfits? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention them" and he immediately replied with a photo of the misfits t shirt he was currently wearing. So yeah, Misfits are king!
