welbeck was a top player. he was regular at manu because he was very good at tackling and pressuring, as a forward. and he held the ball up well. i'd say rashford is probably at a lesser level than welbeck was at the same stage.

The difference is, you know what you're getting from Danny, you don't from Marcus. In terms of raw technical ability, Rashford wins out, but there's more to the game than that

They say hindsight is 20/20. So in retrospect, I feel Welbeck was better player for us. Rashford had me fooled in the beginning but the more I watched him the less I rate him. He has all the talent but his football brain is none existent.

His link up play with Rooney was almost as good as Yorke and Cole.
His work rate, his flair, his confidence and humility in equal measures.
DW had the same problem that EVERY young fast striker that comes through our academy..... We sign a Wazza, Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Ronaldo, Berbatov, RVP,.... We ALWAYS sign a BIG name striker and our young talent gets pushed out to the wings.
Wellbz, Rashford, Greenwood, Martial....
All made their names as strikers, all had scoring stats to be proud of in their first 2 years.
All saw big name strikers come in and all got moved around to accommodate.
Even Wazza was moved about to accommodate new strikers like Tevez Berbatov and RVP..

When he was young and didn't need a cane to walk, i feel we can't compare any version of Rashford we have seen to that Wellbeck. There was that moment in Arsenal when Wenger collected all the young talent from England and everyone was playing Arsenal on their fifa games... (around the world, maybe not in england with everyone having their own team and personal grudges against all the other teams) Wellbeck was a part of that excitement.

Ferguson often started Welbeck, not so much for his goalscoring ability but more so for his hard work rate. Surprised Goldstein even questioned it. The problem with Rashford is he's never hit the potential we all thought he might, he reminds me a lot of Theo Walcott these days, he needs 5 or 6 chances to score 1 goal.

Welbeck has done pretty well for any team he's played for, including England. He's just not a natural goalscorer. He contributes a lot to the team, though, especially with his pace, movement, and pressing.

I’d rather take a player who can control a game and make the correct decisions over a guy whose decision making is the worst I’ve ever seen. Rashford took his chance when he got his debut in a squad hit with loads of injuries. A bit of luck but most pro's need that lucky break. He has all the raw ingredients to be brilliant. Needs to just focus on football, bin social media off

Goldstein doesn't take into account that Rashford is also playing for a MUCH better England team, he should be scoring a lot more than Welbeck. Both were played down the left for England, it's a fair comparison. Welbeck has accomplished more and done better for both club and country. Rashford doesn't try and wastes potential. Welbeck bleeds for his team on that pitch.

Rashford has better first touch, ball control, dribbling, shooting, skills, vision/creating passing, ability to create a goal out of nothing and so on. The only area where welbeck may be greater than rashford is physical strength. Some may argue decision making but I’d still give it to rashford due to him being more creative just sometimes being slightly indecisive.

There are a few reasons.
The travel is usually more arduous.
The games are difficult to motivate players for, so fatigue doesn't seem worthwhile. If you played Real Madrid Wednesday, it may give you a boost for a Saturday game.
If you played a bunch of farmers in Romania, you'd forgive players for being tired and unmotivated for Brentford away.
Also... Constantly playing catch up, after all your rivals have possibly won and overtaken you, must be a factor in piling on pressure.
I'm in a much better position as a Manchester United season ticket holder and pretty close to every away games attendee for decade's. Rashford has been dreadful for 2 seasons. I'm struggling to think of any player of any club that's been dreadful for 2 seasons that's ever got back to the top level consistently. Name me one please

different attributes in both players! rashford is more a wide/winger type who can dribble, welbeck is more physical, good at hold up and dangerous aerially, someone better suited down the middle. both very good players in their own rights.
Welbeck was a very good player and could have had a much better career if not for the injuries. Remember his ability to win the ball high up the pitch was class.

Jack is such a talent, it’s a shame injuries blighted his career but he’s still young and could carry on playing for a good couple of years and Jack mate I would say take whatever you can as I assume you still love playing and retirement is a very long time
He is on par with Dele Alli , Franny Jeffers , Jack Rodwell and Andy Carroll excelled in their youth then flopped big time in their early to mid 20s . He has just played 14 games for Danish side Aarhus who failed to win any games Wilshere was involved in and finished the season 1 point above relegation .

I’d have welbeck over rashford but it’s a tough debate. Rashford is only 22 or 23 I think. He could still move and have a brilliant career for a Leicester or West Ham and be fantastic.
True but welbeck has had many years around 15-16 goals plus assists. That’s consistency and his hold up play is better. Rashford has only had 2 good seasons in his life you could argue peeked already and isn’t consistent. Rashford still very young but he will never be a top player in my opinion. Neither was welbeck. I think they are both just good premier league level.

Seems like someone didn't actually pay attention to the league he now covers. I vividly remember the Welbeck hype train blowing throughout European football for a good few years. He spent his Man U time never getting to be in the middle and not second fiddle. And whilst that story was never a secret, the dude was still scoring goals. Plus, he'd always play at a higher level internationally for England. Once he actually got his chance to play up front for Arsenal... well.. yea, story over
