White people should use their privilege and their money to help people in need in their country!!! --
Mr beast : OK **feeds people in the US every year and has a whole channel dedicated to philantropy in the US.
Awff big deal!!! you don't solve the real issue in AFRICA were they need more resources and have far more complicated lifes ---
Mr Beast: Ok **goes to africa and starts making some videos and changes on small comunities.
Oh Now you don't focus on people in here, there are people that have disease that can be curable in the US and you care for a bunch of people you don't know, how about you care for here.
Mr Beast: Ok **helps colorblind people, prosthetic people, blind people etc in the Us and the world.
Oh come on you can't just fix them, you have to help them have the infrastructure to get them out of poverty, they waste time and lifes by going for water for hours a day, don't give them money, provide them with water so they can be healthy and focus on growing.
Mr Beast: Ok ** makes 100 wells by directly donating his own money to make this possible.
Oh now you make every other charity look bad (the ones that usually never use the money for what is intended)... now you are so selfish because you are ... .you are... you are white!! and you should be ashamed of helping others while having privilege.....
Mr. Beast. **but you said to... give money because of my privilege....

Hey Ludwig, Kenyan here. Found out about the Mr Beast video on Twitter and it wasn't Kenyans criticising Mr Beast, but rather us criticising our government because of how much waste there's clearly been in our government, yet one man (Mr Beast) was able to do so much more than our government. There was huge praise for him online, but at the same time, a lot of anger towards our government for not solving a problem that could have clearly been more easily solved. Clearly international media was trying to find a reason to cancel him and picked up on tweets that may have been more critical, but the Boniface Mwangi tweet you quoted from the Yahoo article is a good example of the general sentiment that was felt by people in the country

We in the US have a similar sentiment. Especially after he "cured" blindness, food shelfs, etc. He's great, but shouldn't be having to do this basic shit when our government can blow up kids without pause. Canceling isn't even real. CZcams would never ban Mr beast, companies would be insane to turn away from him. So it's all clickbait bs for the algorithm.

Well, basically he would have to go live all day, fact-checking the news anchors aka “professional journalists”…
We know journalists don’t actually do any real journalism anymore…
You wanna be a super start, go ahead, record some wack ass songs, but if you or your record label have enough money, your wack music will be streaming all day on every streaming app, and don’t worry if no one knows who you are, all the paparazo shows like TMZ will be talking about you, like they know you since for ever, other media shows will be making up stories about you just to keep pumping your name..
Obviously they will always talk good about you and treat you well on interviews, until you ran out of money….
I worked for a very famous mexican singer, he seemed like a very humble person, he spent more than ten years battling cancer.. zero red flags on television..
A soon as i met him.. I instantly knew he was an asswhole, treate his workers and musicians like shit.. everyone in the industry knew he was a arrogant asswhole… but would spend millions on paying the media to not talk about anything that show his real personality..

@@lordnatu Because of something very simple: it is not inflammatory or extremely descriptive. If you have a very descriptive and inflammatory click bait title, such as those in a lot of news articles, that is very different from a video title that is half a step removed from what the video is. If someone searched "why is mr beast being canceled", then they'll probably be more inclined to click on "why is mr beast being cancelled" than "why mr beast isn't really getting cancelled: a commentary about unethical journalism" or whatever you'd rather have it called. Mogul mail videos have basically what people will search to find the video as the title, an introduction to the issue as perceived at large, a more in depth look that pokes holes in the view a lot of people have manufactured, and finally talking about other underlying issues.

Those things would never happen and even if they did he can just upload his videos elsewhere and not lose anything on it. People as rich and powerful as Mr. Beast can't be harmed through cancellation, this is a weird thing conservatives pretend can happen to rich people, it can't. I think there is a real reason for people to be skeptical of when someone not from a community/particularly the western world comes into to a underdeveloped one to solve a problem due to the historic consequences (see: voluntourism), heck, i'm definitely one of those eye raising people, but when i watched the mr beast video I noticed he did in fact work with members of the local community/people already wellversed with the community's needs, which to me was a positive sign of his intentions. As far as journalism goes, it's sad to see the state of many publications today in realizing the reason why so many have to result to bs clickbait is because of the surrounding attention economy and the fact that these pubs got to pay the bills and clicks/adverts are now really the only way now that print is sort of dead. one of my fave podcast rn Rehash by the brilliant youtuber Broey Deschanel talks abt the topic of dying journalism in their episode on buzzfeed news (i swear this isnt an ad i just love their stuff and thought it was relevant for anyone who was curious!)

I have something to say that should make you feel good
Ironically it starts with me saying that I haven’t watched a lot on this channel. However, I have watched a lot on your main channel. This video shows that whatever content you produce it will always be the same. I say that as someone who watches your videos to hear someone just speak the truth and be real. Who cares if I watch one type of video over another. Sometimes you need to chill and watch a guy just be a guy because some people try way too damn hard. It never matters to me what you even do, you’re just being entertaining. Sometimes you need a video like this one. It’s also entertaining, but less “chilling with the homies.” I love the passion you have for getting the facts straight and I know this will make rounds at CNN and Yahoo when they get wind of this (even though they probably already have.)

I feel that not only is this an entirely separate thing ie. to see a need and help is different from understanding the background reasons for the need, Mr Beast also simply does not have the ability to be fully informed across all issues he assists with. Following this, if he were to try and explain the reasons for the requirement of this assistance that he provides, if he is not fully informed it opens him up to criticism and also these issues often have multiple different standpoints for which he would definitely receive criticism, whether justified or not, from if he tries to explain the background issue to each.

Dude this is actually a really good video. I do hope that MrBeast makes a channel or some videos on his side channels explaining the systemic issues and flaws that led to the problems he has to fix. Although, it could get him into trouble with governments and otherajor actors if they are the major cause, and I can see why doing so would be counterproductive in helping people because you can't help if you can't travel to the country.

Thank you for dissecting this. People are way too quick in trusting what media is saying (or rather, the headlines. Let's be real, that's as far as many read).
I'm not saying Mr Beast did this intentionally, but putting the "cancelled" comment out there ahead of the video kind of poisoned the well (pun intended); by drawing this kind of attention to the video, it makes it difficult to genuinely critique it (if warranted) without being accused of trying to cancel him. Plus it's probably generating a lot of additional buzz around his content, which I'm sure he's not unhappy about.

I'm not sure his tweet changed the discourse around the video that much though, since other videos of his drew up the same type of articles regardless. I saw it as him mostly venting some frustrations

Great video. Here’s another thing to consider.. why do news publications have these wild accusations and bullshit headlines? It’s the same reason why CZcamsrs do it; clicks and ad buys. The people writing the articles (or the AI that regurgitates from other sites) know MOST PEOPLE WONT READ THE ARTICLE (just like most people may only read this caps locked portion of my comment…too bad I can’t bold it). They feed off readers anger, fear, or want to see other’s fail so even if they clarify their statement in the article, they already “did their job” with a grabby headline, actual substance be damned.
So that’s the dilemma, click bait title for the cash with no substance, or boring but more factual headline with less clicks/hope people will actually read the article?

It sucks to see what the internet has mainly become. One person says false information on someone for clout and once it blows up (big if) everyone starts doing the same. People close to Techno paid their respects to him and other creators milked him beyond death. Someone hated on a creator, now everyone wants to hate on said creator. And most of these hate video's, or pointing out why they're bad almost never has sources, or if they do they overexaggerate , or it's not a reliable source. This is all because of how desperate some people are to get views, like, etc. without caring about the person they're making a video on because they're the same as you.(except those creeps yknow what I mean)(this also includes the viewers)
TLDR: Some people on the internet would do anything for likes, views, etc. even to the point of destroying another person with false rumors.

@@Akashi-ml9dn he’s a multimillionaire who uses a fraction of what he makes to help a couple thousand people for views, likes, and youtube success. His actions are a net positive, but philanthropy isn’t perfect. he has so much power, influence, and access to so many resources that he uses to essentially, put a bandaid on a bullet hole. Of course one person doesn’t have the power to change all harmful and corrupt systems, but his power and resources could be doing so much more than what they currently are. i don’t think he’s a bad person, and what he’s doing is incredibly generous and helps so many people, BUT i think it’s reasonable to criticize his potential motives, and to open the discussion to the issues with philanthropy as a whole. He’s doing good, and there can be unintended harmful consequences to his actions ! 2 things true at the same time

Ive seen this as a common trend, shere u tey to look something up, and the article just kinda link in a circle and quote eachother, but the OG will be slightly off. Like in this case. But then you have "reputable sources" saying it, so then it becomes "fact". Im new to ludwig, but i like this guy.

The problem with Mr Beast isn't that he is helping people and bringing awareness to an issue but that he doesn't bring awareness to the cause of the issue. By not doing this, he creates the perception that he is only being a philanthropist for clicks and not to actually help people. Of course I encourage that he continue to help others and inspire others to help out too, but he also needs to bring awareness to the root causes and not just the issues themselves.

    • @MamaAkina
      @MamaAkina Před 5 měsíci +7

I agree with you whole heartedly that the root causes NEED exposure. But please recognize the tremendous risks involved with that. In many cases where philanthropy is used there is a social, religous or political feud responsible for those shortcomings. There is always someone you CAN blame.
But what about when you're blaming the shortcomings of a world superpower, one of their politicial parties, or politicians like Friendly Jordies does? You get sued, harrassed by police and get your house firebombed!
To me the idea that Mr. Beast is only in philanthropy for the clicks is absurd. He's already made it big with his actual content, he doesn't need the philanthropy bit. I appriciate what both of these creators do. Even if their approach is different, because I think it makes sense why.

They did the same thing to Hasan Minhaj, a political satire comedian who was up for the Daily Show Host gig. The New York Times literally publishes a hit piece on him and he ended up losing the gig because it came two weeks before Hasan was rumored to most likely get the hosting job. The New York Times Julia James article (never trusting anything written from her again) literally cut quotes and put them together, deleting all the context to make it look like he's a comedian who lies about everything in his specials when during his video he uploaded (yep, literally had to upload an apology video) he broke down every single lie in the article. Seeing how much the NYT blatantly lied in that article, literally he could sue for defamation it was that bad.
This all has taught me one thing, never talk to a journalist without assuming your words WILL get skewed to match THEIR narrative. Also, the New York Times never issued an apology either, screw those "journalists." 😒

I think the infrastructure for well maintenance argument is interesting to consider. It feels a bit like a give a man a fish versus teach him how to fish sort of scenario. But even considering that, you aren't gonna condemn homie for giving the man a fish! His generosity is still a great kindness, even if it doesn't solve the root political and infrastructural problems that are responsible for the destitution of these communities.
I like what the last comment mentioned, too, that the video could maybe be better if Mr. Beast spent more time explaining why these wells are necessary and what is actually going on that prevents Kenya from being able to achieve this themselves. It would help clarify the authenticity of the gesture, I think. It would ensure to the audience that it is an act of kindness that brings attention to the problem instead of solely bringing attention to himself.
