As a German it always baffles me, for the lack of a better term, when people actually try to deny the holocaust. Millions of people lost their lives during that time, there are still people alive that witnessed it themselves, survivors as well as Wehrmacht soldiers. You can come here and visit the Concentration Camps. How can anybody just go "Nah, that didn't happen"?!
When I was in 7th Grade we actually went to the Camp in Dachau, near Munich, it was the first one built. It literally was the most uncomfortable place I've ever been to. The walls were built on nothing but disgust for everything that's happened there.
People like Kanye, and to a lesser degree someone like Kyrie Irving, really just make me insanely angry and sad at the same time. That now sounds hella selfish, but I'm really glad I never enjoyed any of his stuff.
I get that as a German descendant as well. Their is more to this story though. For one theirs the Jewish role in slave ships. Also in media where many made the contracts with black artists and screwed them. Theirs plenty to say about wealth and power within this community, but it does not need to be said with hatred or excusing anti-Semitism. That should be number one, but I don't think it ever will be until we can be a bit more critical and intelligent about all of this.
I feel exactly the same - sad and angry. I visited the Concentration Camp in Mauthausen with my class a few years ago. Mauthausen is the biggest Camp in Austria and i remember how uncomfortable and miserable i felt during my visit there. It completely frustrates me that someone would voluntarily call himself a Nazi and express his sympathy towards Hitler while not having the slightest clue what he is talking about.
I have never understood the stupid argument "it wasn't 6 million people". How many was it then and how do you know? There is so much evidence it should be impossible to deny what happened but uneducated people like Kanye West think they know better than everyone else.

You on a wider discussion consider race as a social construct and truly there is only 1 race of humans currently still around. Homo sapiens. They aren't scientificly truly a race so in theory you elimate important discussions around the marginalized groups.

On the Friedman podcast, I think the correct way as pointed out by lex was to call people by their names if they wrong you, not associate full groups.
So about two weeks ago we had a holocaust survivor come to my school and tell us about her life and what happened during it. I don’t think I have ever cried when someone was presenting but damn I felt that shit man the shit she went through is just torture and to see someone who has so much influence say oh yeah it’s fake makes me so fucking mad I just can’t believe that someone can pretend to be a devils advocate on such a large degree and have people backing him up.

People denying the holocaust is so insane to me. I'm german, I talked to so many older people (survivors and former Wehrmacht soldiers) and heard horrible stories from every single one. We also all visit the places of the old concentration camps in school. Even though nothing much of the one I've seen was left standing, it's the most chilling, uncomfortable place I've ever been to.
All these deniers have never even left their rural hometowns, and neither have any of their family members, probably for multiple generations. Some of the most insular, crackpot people alive.

My grandma had to flee to switzerland to escape the holocaust and we lost most of the family we had in germany. I'm the last surviving branch of my family german side due to the holocaust. I STILL remember when I was a kid spending the night over at my grandma's she'd wake up in the middle of the night crying and screaming because she thought she was back there. It's truly scary to see so many things my family has experienced being denied and coming back to the mainstream.

He works as a plumber now.
I watched 2 survivors get in a fight. This lady was trying to tell the guy that forgiveness was the only way he would be able to eke out a life

It’s really hard seeing how the world is just declining. It’s crazy how as kids we see everyone as people, we’d be friends with everyone in class and hearing about racism growing up it seemed fake or something that was hundreds of years ago. I’ve never been able to understand racism or poor treatment of people just because of who they are when they have no control. I really thought things were much better but now that I’m an adult it’s sad seeing how bad it really still is. No race,ethnicity, or gender should ever be belittled just because of something they didn’t choose and idk if I’ll ever understand why everyone else doesn’t agree with that. It needs to be good vs evil, not race vs race, gender vs gender… but too many people are letting the evil people win by being distracted from the bigger problem.

@@rexana_rexana In portugal we read and learn about anne frank and the holocaust and nazis etc etc and it's not just in history class. In portuguese class you'd read books about it, in english you'd do like group projects or visit museums, do research, etc. At least my teachers did those things. Sadly doesn't seem to be very common in the USA, and even then, seems plenty of kids and teens would rather ignore it and bring more hate to this world.
