    I think Windfall was founded by the descendants of Kakariko Village. The definition of the word windfall is where something ends up. Usually in reference to fruit blown from trees. I think in the aftermath of the flood, the people of Kakariko scrambled for high land seeking land. And Windfall Island is where they ended up. Designing their new home after their old one.

      Since the creators don't care about lore as much as fans, I've come to terms with the idea that the Hylian kingdom just advance their lands through peace treaties, or even hostile takeovers.
      Snowy mountains and a snow temple were supposed to be in Ocarina but we're limited to being just ice caverns, so since 100 years or so passed between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, I can just safely assume Hyrule didn't house snowy mountains in their Kingdom, but through imperial expansion, eventually did.

    We've seen Kakariko straight up move locations entirely before in Twilight Princess, I personally feel that with the strange placement of it, this could have been a new Kakariko Village built after some disaster in the original and designed to match the original as closely as they could, possibly mere years after the events of Ocarina of Time, that could explain the difference in location while giving a valid reason for it to be so similar in layout.

    @darken27 Před 4 lety +23

    I feel like if Hyrule were flooded, and people were in a rush to get to the mountaintops, it would be those same people who built the towns. It would make a lot of sense that they might build their new homes in a similar style as the old to feel more at home. This would explain many of the similarities that are present while not being an exact match.
    IMO, I believe the Kakariko from OoT was completely flooded simply due to the fact that Hyrule Castle is *waaaayyyy* deep, and Kakariko wasn't all that higher in elevation.
    As for the other similarities, I'd say they pretty much all check out. The graveyard may be more symbolic than literal. The bomb shop may have still been a windmill at some point, though not necessarily the same one as Kakariko's.

  • @Boko
    @Boko Před 5 lety +150

    Probably not much, but in OOT the only potion shops are in Castle Town and Kakariko, and in WW the only potion shops are in Windfall and Forest Haven.
    So, discounting forest Haven, as that's weird korok stuff, I guess it'd make sense that the only potion shop is in Windfall, being that the residents from Castle Town and Kakariko ended up on windfall.

    The connections are definitely there, and yes I would imagine that they rebuilt Kakariko on higher plane level after the great flood, but after 1,000 years the land would of shifted drastically and changed form to what it is in Wind Waker. Either that or they settled upon Death Mountain after it falling dormant during the great flood, which would make more sense since it's elevation height puts it up higher than the rest of where Hyrule once was.

I think there's room for more stories in-between, such as Twilight Princess to Four Swords Adventures, but that's left to the lore junkies and theorists until Nintendo (without ret-conning in Encyclopedia 2.0) intervenes. Supposedly Nintendo listed BotW at the end of the timeline(s) so either all have converged, or one remains. Or Nintendo simply wants to move on from the Timeline given. Personally I always that that evolution was due to the danger. A lot of people are confused as to why Zoras would turn into birds when they seem perfectly suited a flooded world... But then you have to remember all the monsters now inhabiting the great sea, like Big Octos and the shark things (forgot their names.) The water is no longer safe, so Zoras adapted to fly over it.

    I could watch videos of Zelda lore and theory all day. Majora's Mask and WW are particularly chock full of both. I don't think Windfall is Kakariko, but as other people have mentioned, probably built from inspiration of the Hylians' former home.
    If they are the same place however, it could be explained in that perhaps along with Hyrule being flooded, the lands were altered, similar to Middle Earth in Tolkien's legendarium. At various points in Arda's history the land is broken and changed; seas disappear while new ones are created, Beleriand sank into the sea, mountains were raised etc.
    I think the loose ends in video game worlds are the most beautiful part of them as it leaves room for the imagination to fill in. I have a whole world created in my head for where Link would have ended up had he continued riding through the Lost Woods in MM instead of going through the portal

Given the magical properties of the spring, it is likely the former Great Deku Tree. As for the near island where we save Makar, I am actually unsure. It is overgrown and decomposing as shown by the toxic waters inside. It made me think back to how the previous Great Deku Tree has been tainted by Ganon and asked us to help him. But if that truly was his remains, what is the Forest Haven? See my dilemma? One could argue it is the upper half that snapped off and “replanted” itself.

      If you mute the sound and just look at the pictures you quickly realize that its physically impossible for it to be the same place because Kakariko was located in between a mountain range so in order for it to be on top of the water it would have had to be raised up to the same level as Zora's domain (Now Dragon roost island). He also completely neglects to mention that Hyrule castle sits HIGHER than Kakariko village in elevation......the same castle that's now at the bottom of the ocean......with a LOT of water above it which can be seen in the cinematic. Map inconsistency alone can not account for a miles height difference in elevation, my 12 year old figured that out half way threw the video..... This guy has put out a LOT of great videos but hes also putting out comment theorys that make no sense when you actually take a step back and look at it without the "rose tinted timeline glasses" on.

    It is actually already officially confirmed that the people from Kakariko Village moved to Windfall Island. The Zelda Encyclopedia (which was officially published by Nintendo) states:
    - The People of Hyrule Castle Town and the nearby Kakariko Village are on Windfall Island
    It also says:
    - Zoras Domain became Dragon Roost Island
    -Lake Hylia, connected to Zoras Domain through an underwater passage, is Greatfish Isle, former home of Jabun
    - The Gerudo Fortress in the desert is now the Forsaken Fortress, fittingly occupied by Ganondorf
    - Outset Island and Ordon Village are similar Places in different Worlds
    - To adapt to a world composed mostly of water, the Kokiri became the Koroks. The Great Deku Tree is the same Great Deku Tree from the era of the Hero of Time, and that the Kokiri Forest has become Forest Haven.

  • @darrenmacqueen9884

    Dragon Roost is Death Mountain. I own the Historia, and I don't remember it saying that it's Zora's Domain. (Not bothering to dig it out right now.) I remember it saying the Zora evolved into Rito (which is also really dumb) but not that their home became Dragon Roost. But even if it did, it's not canon. It's a temporary head canon made by the developers at best. The very first page it said something to the effect of "This is an explanation of events based on what we know now and may change in the future." Meaning it's their current head canon, but they don't expect to be held to it when making future games. And in BOTW we have both Rito and Zora so as far as I'm concerned, that's one detail Nintendo has already abandoned.
    Anyway, Death Mountain has always been the tallest point in Hyrule. As much as Nintendo's geography changes, that has always been constant. Dragon Roost is Death Mountain.

      @PsylomeAlpha Před 5 lety +2

      Considering that it was also built on the side of an active volcano, that's not out of the question because it means there's a lot of tectonic activity. Furthermore, the original caldera of Death Mountain could've collapsed as plates shifted from having a whole bunch of extra water poured on them, and since it seems to be a hotspot style volcano (as evidenced by its consistent eruptions, as well as several other reasons) the hotspot might've been moved under what is now Windfall Island and is pushing its elevation up. I wouldn't be too surprised if there's magma venting out of the sides of the volcano beneath the village, because otherwise it likely would've popped sometime recently.
