As an older heterosexual woman, DaBaby’s rant hurt me. In my youth, I watched several of my gay friends attempt to stifle their feelings. Some prayed ( sincerely), fasted and embraced celibacy, but the attraction remained. Eventually, some accepted who they were/are and some continued to spiral in self hatred. DaBaby seems to belong in the latter group.

Recently i noticed that I’ve stopped listening to rap/hip hop. And I realized it’s because I’m sick of the degradation in the music, constantly being insulted and called all kind of names, amongst many other things. And it makes me wonder why do other black men and women support this music and how could I have supported it so long. It didn’t make me feel good or happy, yes the beats are nice but the lyrics are just hurtful. The lyrics perpetuate black on black crime and violence, the disrespect of black women, includes sexual assault.
