It's like a short animation film you watch before a pixar movie.
It felt like the beginning of up without the sudden drop
You put into words exactly what I was thinking while watching it.
I could just picture Teller playing chess with himself.
Except she's not a lamp hopping on that I as if she was possessed. ;)
And still a better love story than Twilight.
I love how good of an improv actor Teller is😂
Yea it's amazing how he adapts to what's happening!
I love how she crafts her act to depend on his talent. It seems obvious that she is not on that stage to fool them, so much as to honor her heroes, and offer a performance worthy of their participation. Just a good show really.
Its cool that she was speaking his language.
It was great just to see him have so much fun.
Well he has done that about 40 years so he got some experience.
Wow, that was so clever to incorporate Teller's silence into your routine... it really made me smile!
Plot twist: Teller isn't the quiet one, he's just the world's best ventriloquist.
@@kd5nrh 😂
She had a little bit of a hard edge (nerves, I bet, and who can blame her) but she has considerable charm and the whole theme/concept/pacing of the performance was absolutely wonderful. There's a sweetness to it that you don't see in most magic acts. Hell, in most media of any kind, now that I think of it. Very smart authorship. She reminds me a little of Jimmy Ichihana in her well-architected performance, or maybe Shawn Farquad (NOT his two spots on the show, I mean his Shape of My Heart performance that won the world championship).
I do wonder how it would work with a random audience member rather than someone like Teller who can keep up with her pantomime skills. OTOH she had Teller this time so she could have specially remixed the act to take advantage of the opportunity.
And to distract him when you have to do a sleight of hand xd
damn right! thats awesome
I'm sure this illusion really resonated with Teller--he's always had an appreciation for telling a story. Gorgeous act!
and without any words. you could clearly see the story without having to be told whats going on
@@luderudecrude reminds me of the flower's shadow trick
Yup, she knew exactly the way to Teller's heart. A really smart, and beautiful trick. Surprisingly touching if you're an old sap like me with ancient heartaches.
@@alwaysfallingshort I'm another old sap with ancient heartache memories. It struck a chord with me too.
Yes, that felt like she made that trick specifically for him. It felt like the kind of trick he would perform and it was adorable.
What I really like about this show is the respect those two have for the contestants.
Agreed, but my favorite contestants are definitely the ones where Penn says "First off, I hate you."
yes!!
unlike those other reality show where judges are soo high up there asses, act like know it all..
@@TheRealPunkachu Reminds me of Kostya Kimlat!! :D
@@TheRealPunkachu yes, but even then he means it in a good way.
I think the only one they were angry about that fooled them was John Archer (the dude with envelopes with Something and Nothing written in them) back in S1.
The premise of this show is not "we have seen everything and we are gods, no one can fool us", rather "we would like to be see something new and to be fooled", and it really shows, they compliment the magicians on the novelties and new twists to old tricks, even if it does not fool them, they like it
Allyson: So boys what do you think?
Big Boy (Penn) : I was jealous but not fooled.
I'm jealous of the beard. Rock on!
I too is jealous of the beard
Magnificent beard you have there
Magic that was beautiful and beautifully done...I love these more than the “fooler” ones sometimes...magic done this well should be simply enjoyed and praised.
They used camera editing to cover up terrible sleight of hand, but whatever.
So true
This was the epitome of playing to the audience. She may not have fooled anyone, and there may have been some camera edits to smooth the flow, but how many of the contestants invite Teller onstage? Teller played into the trick perfectly (a credit to him). But how many acts have asked Teller to walk onstage and perform the trick with them. That woman has balls if nothing else.
@@utarian7 ...we bet you don't get asked to go out and drink with co workers, ever. ( we know you don't have any friends! )
TBH the trick seemed too slow and expected, more basic than most. And, as said before, they did a cam trick when she did the sleight of hand, so what can I say?...
i dont think she got enough credit for how awesome it is she incorporated a story! too many magicians just do trick after trick but even though it wasnt the most mind-boggling trick, it felt SO MUCH MORE meaningful by having a plot
I guess now she'll always have a piece of Teller's heart?
figuratively speaking though
@@Jelissei If you wait in the car near pen and teller theater and give me ten minutes we can talk about the real deal, but it would cost ya and you need to get a new identity.
No they kept both hearts
She gave it to Penn, his true love!
The hug from Teller at the end of the trick says it all. Incredibly sensitive performance. I shed a tear :)
What I love about this show is the respect Penn and Teller has for every magician. Whether they're fooled or not, they always tip their hat off for each amazing performance. I absolutely love these guys and this show.
What I'm even more amazed by is that Penn often manages to play a sort of "bad cop", mildly assholeish persona while simultaneously continuing to be respectful and encouraging
I loved seeing Teller have so much fun.
I like it when the magician knows they're not doing an effect that is going to fool P & T for one second, but still manages to please them with it.
I feel like she created this act just for Teller. It was just perfect and wonderful to watch.
Teller is perfect for a do as I do routine and the way he acted with her, just perfect. The Illusion is not the point in this trick, it is all about the performance.
I agree. She didn't expect to fool Penn & Teller; she just wanted to impress them with her interpretation of a torn and restored routine. And she did!
An old and simple trick but the presentation, enthousiasm, performance was flawless 10/10 !
Enthusiasm*
How is it done?
@@skeech1979 look at Tellers heart at 3:00 and 4:55. Videos are kinda ruining magic for me ^^
@@skeech1979 the other guy is wrong look at 4 20 timestamp. You'll see the camera cut to Teller with the magicians hand go down. That's where she switched her torn pieces of paper with ones she had already prepared
@@marcusaurelieus9055 oh that was so obvious it wasnt even good
Teller does 'magic hands' even when it's not necessary...it's complete dedication to the craft. He's truly the best.
"This one time, at Magic Camp..."
I have looked for so long to find someone making that reference on this show.
Don't think the poor host felt the same...
@@shane8037 She was red as a beet, lol
Keep watching, penn uses it himself at one point.
Can someone explain what you are talking about ? I guess I don't have the cultural background to get it without explanation.
@@gerardmartin1376 Allyson Hanagan was isnAmerican pie and her running gag was saying"this one time at band camp....." . The payoff of the gag was a pussy joke. Do you need more detail or does that clear it up?
Proof that Teller is an absolute genius. The way he rolls with it. Impromptu Performance Art at its best.
🧢 📴
She can now say she got to perform with one of the best magicians alive. What a special moment
I loved the trick and I loved how you told a story with just music and facial expressions. Your presentation was amazing and I loved every moment of this. It doesn't matter that P&T figured it out - it was wonderful nonetheless.
Well said! :)
Couldn't have said it better :)
This was a really special take on being on Fool Us. With taking BENEFIT to Teller's silence and actually giving a piece of paper some type of meaning instead of a newspaper.
Real good stuff!
Wonderful routine that could be repeated without losing it's impact... but Teller made it very special!
I disagree; I don't think this could be repeated, because I don't think there's anyone else in the world with whom she could perform this trick and have it work so beautifully. The magic here is the performance by both of them together, not the trick itself, which is simple sleight-of-hand and clever props.
What I like it the most is that she instructs him to do the cuts and folds and even the reaction without telling a world. When they broke up, Teller understood that fairly quickly because the design of the routine was on point!
Great one :D
And he resisted any urge to out-mime her. That's part of being a stage performer, knowing your place in the act, even in improv.
This solidifies my opinion that the best magic tricks, are those that tell a story. I was so fascinated by this, that you could have not done a trick and I still would have been just as invested. BRAVO! What an amazing presentation, truly one of my favorites from the show.
1:49 and many more times throughout like 4:16. Teller's face is priceless he's so funny and great at going along with it xD 😂😂😂
I wish he was my grandpa 😄
Always loved that Teller knows how to immediately play along like this.
That was obnoxiously heartwarming :D
This definitely feels like one of those "on for the performance but not to fool them" acts, and I couldn't love it more.
Really enjoyable routine that incorporates your background so nicely and is also so different from most routines. I especially like how the story completely motivates the final exchange of hearts so naturally. Very clever. Loved it!
I have watched every episode of Fool Us. Every trick, every performance, every single second. This is, hands down and without exaggeration, my favorite trick on the show. I've seen magicians like Shin Lim pull off impossible things and I have no idea how they did it. While I completely know and understand how this trick was done, I don't care. Because that story you told without words is beyond anything anyone has done here. This trick, this story, lives in my head always. Truly, truly beautiful. Thank you.
yes, the improv was phenomenal, she is as worthy as any great influencer.
Really enjoyed how you chose to present the trick. Not gonna lie, it generated a bit of 'the feels' for me. Caught myself smiling through most of it. Great timing and charisma playing it silent next to the great Teller as well. Kudos all around.
I think this is the best plot for torn and restored I’ve seen. Absolutely fantastic. The look on Teller’s face says it all.
Perfect trick for Teller. One caveat, it would have been better to hand out a crumbled ball of paper rather than a cleanly folded piece of paper. The switch is too obvious because of this
So how did you think it was done. Magic? Of course there was a switch. The object was not too fool us, but to charm us, and she succeeded.
@@dougforkes563 This comment is even more cringe than the routine, Doug.
Yeah that was bad
@@dougforkes563 y the low bar doug
@@dougforkes563 No, the point actually is to fool us. That's the whole point of magic. The show is literally called "fool us" not "charm us"
The trick is not new, but it was beautifully performed, and it worked brilliantly with Teller. And the music was perfect. Subbed looking forward to seeing more.
Wow she just Teller'd Teller. Great act and I love that Teller went along with it so well. Very powerful routine
The joke you did to Allyson, or should I said, the anecdote you told her about your t-shirt in camp, made me smile even more after your beautiful performance. Thank you for sharing your magic and creativity.
When you know how a trick is done but you still love it 1000 times more than a lot of the tricks you can't figure out. I think you figured out the best possible way to present torn and restored.
So just *how* is this particular kind of trick done anyway?
@@SireSquish At 4:18 she pulled the restored hearts at her seat and disposed of the torn green heart.
4:24 Switched the pink torn one to the restored one from her right hand.
That was beautiful. Loved that he spontaneously gave her the hug at the end
Goodness, Kayla, that performance was mesmerizing; I was tearing up!
Such an incredible performance. You might not have won a trophy but this is one of the best things to ever happen on that show.
That was a great performance of a classic! Thanks. Well done.
That's the kind of magic I love. She was AMAZING.
This was one of the best and most engaging performances on this show imo - WELL DONE! you are amazing!
What a beautiful presentation of a time-honored trick. I loved it! Well done!
That was one of the most beautiful routines I've ever seen. Usually when people try to make a story out of a magic trick it becomes cheesy and kind of insulting to one's intelligence, but because this story was shown rather than told, it fits beautifully. Also the narrative justified every single "secret" action inherently, so there was no unnatural moment. Just gorgeous.
This presentation was just beautiful! You live a life looking for moments like these! Thank you!
I think I watch this act every six months or so and I never get sick of it
Enjoying this beautiful performance 4 years later. Bravo 👏
Chosing to do a more artistic rendition of a classic trick makes me feel like she went on the show not so much as a contestant but just as an artist and I feel like that should really be applauded because she did an amazing job
I actually almost cried watching this! A tale of heartbreak and new found love beautifully told in a form of a magic routine. Didn't matter if they knew exactly how you did it, because I think the magic itself was in the storytelling. Beautiful work, keep doing what you love and believe in
Kayla, to perform on that stage, and to do it well is an amazing feat. To elevate a trick that many know and have seen done is a marvel. To perform magic without speaking is extremely rare. To evoke emotion from an audience is the desire of every great performer. And to have an experience with Teller that he enjoyed and was proud to be a part of... is a magician's dream come true. And you did all of these in one act. Bravo my dear. BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!
Years later, I still come back to watch this one every so often. It was just so beautifully done and so spectacular. I never would have thought a magic trick could capture the essence of bittersweet in such a moving way 🥲
The actual trick itself is straightforward yet the presentation and effect made with it is so amazing!
Brilliantly done and excellent choice of stage assistant Highly entertaining throughout🥰 👍👍👍👍
Everything about this is beautiful. The play, the music, Teller's acting, the symbolism and, of course, you! Thank you!
This never gets old! The silent act with your and Teller’s improvised chemistry. Absolutely adorable and amazing. 10/10
I can’t get over how much she looks like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry
OMG cannot unsee
I was about to say that😂
more katy perry and elizabeth olsen than miley
Definitely a Katy Perry resemblance with her stage outfit.
With a dash of the Olsen Twins...
You know you have done well when the audience knows what you did and how you did it but like you and your performance so much they don't care. This was one of the most beautifully performed illusions I have ever witnessed. And bravo for coming up with something that takes advantage of Teller's particular talent that he would automatically enjoy participating in.
This was beautiful 😭 thank you for including us in this
Brilliant trick. Really liked this fresh approach and look forward to more emotion invoking performances. That was the real magic! :D
This is a simple trick that she presented beautifully.
That was a great performance! Thank you for sharing =D
This is the best version of the cut and restore magic trick. Well done!
It was a really beautiful trick. Nice job!
Sitting here at 7.30p, eating a sandwich, about to start a round of LoL, after working the entire day - watching this made me smile like crazy and also cry a little. This was wonderful. Thank you. Subscribed.
I've never teared up watching a magic routine before - this was beautiful!
The best is how it holds our attention with the whole performance and not just the trick itself 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
While I agree with some of the comments and Penn that this wasn't an unknown trick, it was hands down one of the most wonderful and beautiful and sentimental pieces of magic I have ever seen. I think the symbolism was ABSOLUTELY conveyed and pretty much anyone who sees or participates in this would feel the magic and emotion of this lovely piece. I think Teller absolutely was perfect to perform it with and I love the idea of using magic to tell a story and express complex feelings. You did a wonderful job!
what, it was just awkward to me . And tho i'm no expert in magic, penn face was like someone just showed him a nursery level magic. Everything that comes out of penn's mouth is an illusion with "being nice" as its theme.
This was exceptional. Kayla is without question one of the most entertaining, creative, and talented magicians in the world.
Didn't know bots can comment
Love, love, love the whole thing is silent. Brilliant and one of the best presentations.
Such a simple trick but such a beautiful performance. So well done.
Why did I miss this video so long? So beautiful and refreshing.
And I have no idea how you did it, and I wont look it up.
pretty sure part of my heart was stolen in this ...lovely
I love this bit. One of the most memorable on the show!
That was a really beautiful performance. Everything in it was so well designed and felt natural at the same time. Inspiring.
Anybody else think she looks like Katy Perry?
Jessica Yarr that was my first thought when I saw her
Yeah I felt the same
No.
More like Emily Blunt
I would say Zoe Deschanel
great performance! I would love to visit the magic castle and see your show in person.
That was brilliant. It's an old trick that they know for sure, but this version is so great. I really enjoyed it.
Your performance, and Teller's, is so adorable! So simple yet touching and beautiful. Thank you :)
Though it is 'sleight of hands', her magic is fresh, engaging, uniquely presented with love.
0:33 you can see that damn lemon in her hand
😂Great observation
First truly beautiful performance on this show. Congrats
This was the coolest act I've ever seen with Teller! I was so captivated by your silence and how intimate the whole thing was. Amazing work
0:50 seriously thought she was giving everyone the finger lol
This feels like a trick tailor-made for Teller- right up his alley
Aw, that was so beautifully presented!!! I really, really enjoyed that.
OMG. That was so beautiful, Kayla! Thank you!
Beautiful routine. The switch happens at 4:16 and Teller catches it.
I think at that moment she puts one under her or switches and at 4:26 or so you see her right hand clench onto the other folded paper. She had to hide 2 ripped and 2 put together ones. Could've been the other one
It's soo refreshing to see such an original magic trick!! Beautifully excecuted, beautifully presented, and you are very beautiful too! :) And Teller is such a great sport!
It's a really old trick actually, just a unique presentation.
This is one of the oldest tricks out there...
I loved that! What beautiful presentation 👍
It was a wonderful act. Thank you for this beautiful moment Kayla.
I’m not sure if she looks more like Katy perry or Zooey Deschanel
Does it matter? As long as she does tricks.
Wow. Great trick, GORGEOUS magician.
I really liked that. Sweet and emotional instead of going out of its way to TRY to be entertaining. That's a magic act I wish I could see I'm person. Well done!
This was SO BEAUTIFUL, i loved everything about it
Amazing performance, Amazing idea. If there was a way to make teller's restored heart look exactly like the one he cut that would have just been the icing on top of the cake. Such a beautiful trick though, honestly you should show this to pixar I bet they'd hire you for short stories!
