Dear Emperor, the Soul Drinkers series was the first piece of 40k literature that I ever read so they will always have a special place in my heart
I wasn't in the fandom when they were written but I've heard the stories. I plan to read the books eventually.
I just started to get back into the hobby after leaving at the end of 4th edition and will be building a Last Wall army as well cuz I can't just pick one chapter of Dorn. Even as/after I left the hobby I still found out about the Soul Drinkers and immediately fell in love with 'em. I was trying to figure out a way to explain why some of my future Primaris Marines will be done up as Soul Drinkers but now I don't have to and I get to read new stories about them too! Son's of Dorn Rejoice!

I just got the original omnibus of the first three books coming in this Friday at the least. Excited to try these guys out.
I just got the command starter box and indomitus. I was thinking "wtf am I gonna do with these space marines?? Boy I wish soul drinkers were still around." Now I know.
The soul drinkers names adorn the walls of the Phalanx among the dead of the fists. If the lore doesn't support them being sons of Dorn I'm willing to bet the Fists will treat them as kin regardless. The chapter master is Luko, one of the two remaining survivors of the original chapter.
I liked the idea of a new Imperial Fists successor using the Soul Drinkers colours (created as an F.U. to the dark power) but I didn't think they'd bring they'd bring back the Soul Drinkers name and Heraldry. I like this though, it makes me want to get painting purple primaris!

The idea of a Renegade chapter (effected by Chaos or not) still being loyal to the Emperor (and maybe the Imperium) but forced out of it has always been a major interest of mine. One of my armies, the Silver Proctors is Renegade but loyal to big E and humanity but not to the Imperium (very secular chapter run foul of Inquisition and church) as I think this is a cool area to explore.
Like you I also find the idea of Astartes and other human forces that fight for humanity and see the threat of Chaos and dangerous Xenos species, but don't approve of the repression and misgovernance of the Imperium, to be intriguing. It seem inevitable that at least some such groups must have come into existance over the history f the Imperium, warriors who believe in protecting humanity and fighting the corruption of Chaos but can't ignore things like the rampant abuse of power that characterises bodies like the Ecclesiachy and the Inquisition.
That's a name I haven't seen in some time. I figured Sarpedon and the boys were gone for good at this point

Valkak, my man, I'm a super fan of your Last Wall Army. I dig it like a tater patch. If you do some Soul Drinkers Primaris it would add some depth to The Wall. Too bad there's no spider legged marine that is wholly loyal out there.

I just recently built a Soul Drinker for my Deathwatch army. I'm very glad to see this development.
I think this could be a good chapter to make a personal preference to which side they are on. They can have lore such as some give themselves to fabius bile to give primaris traitors and some that choose to stay loyal... Just an idea
The Soul Drinkers books were the first 40k books I ever read over a decade ago. Now, my inner hipster is glad I decided not to go with them for my own minis...

I hope they come back and go traitor again - I've been wanting to model renegade space marines as 3 large objective markers for my Epic Minotaurs chapter to be hunting down to annihilate but I've not been sure what to paint them as.

Ah, as someone who's entry into 40k was the Soul Drinkers, I'm more than excited! As I've only recently returned to the hobby it's self(Shadowspear, and now Indomitus), I'm quite glad I decided to go with Soul Drinkers for the minis yet again. Definitely some hype here, and I'll be ordering the Hardcover, or any other collector's edition that shows up in this case!
P.S. Definitely hoping for some sort of ruleset for them, just as the Emperor's Spears in example. That would be wonderful!

The revived Chapter will be sons of Dorn. They'll be made from the fresh Geneseed in the vaults.
My Nuisance Studios page has a ton of Soul Drinkers posted. Been my chapter since I started in 2013. I'm hoping these guys cross paths with someone from the previous books. Be kinda neat if it where the Howling Griffons. This will be the first Black Library book I've ever pre ordered.
Hell yes I’m so happy they are bringing back the soul drinkers. The warp gate re-open and the remaining two are still alive ready for battle from hell and back again.
I hope Black Library bring back Night Lords Commander Sahaal, from Lord of the Night novel. This novel is what cemented my love of the WH40k universe.
Dorn is tried for 3rd for me in primarchs likely to return with Vulkan. No corpse has ever officially been found, so he may be alive. Most likely is Lion El'Jonson followed by Russ and Jaghatai tied for 2nd.

The irony is my purple army painter cans arrived today to start this exact army in chapter reborn primaris only. The story was they were given the former chapters history by imperial fists so are fleet based searching for there old relics and history of the previous chapter. Cold and fast means successor tactics of no assault firing minus and +1 advance/ charge. Just need a chalice for chapter master and ready to paint. This is best news ever.
The Shadow wolves were never destroyed. I know Grimaldus says there were but that was retconned to just losing their world and majority of Brothers. They're still an active chapter.

My belief is that they're the lost legion, also it was revealed that the new chapter actually have the same geneseed as their predecessors (by the inquisition)...

Well the thing that links mots of the primaris to the chapters of traditional marines they are assigned to is that they use the geneseed of those chapters, or at the very least the closest to it available ... so if there was Sould Drinker gs stored, then this may be Primaris SD ... just they are also a new chapter since they have no direct connection to the culture and history of their predeceasing chapter

My question is are they truly sons of Dorn this time or are they from the same ancestry as before? I'm excited to see if they answer some gene seed questions.

I am a Soul Drinkers fan, as I didnt even read a lot of their stories.....but....from everything else I found out (as I started with the book JUST after they leave the Space Hulk) they are awesome and loyal sons. YES, they became tricked by the warp-shit heads of tzeentch, but they proved that they would rather give thier lives in defense of the Imperium and (specifically) for their fellow Sons of Dorn.
I hope they meet Sarpedon. I really hope they do.
considering at the end of the original trilogy it was left with Saperdon and one other person, I guess the only way for them to be back is via primaris

Real question is do they still share the gene seed of their long dead brothers? Because the gene seed may have been reserved thanks to the mechanicus. The imperial fists would never tell the truth, to keep their brothers safe and guiliman would have little idea of it.
