Can I paint 2000 points of Warhammer 40k Space marines in 24 hours?

- Äas pĆidĂĄn 6. 07. 2020
- I try to paint 2000 points of Warhammer 40k Space marines in 24 hours. Using my airbrush and paintbrush, I thought i'd do a painting challenge. My Soul drinkers have been in my pile of shame for too long, how far will I get? Let's see. Join me for this painting marathon.

Maybe paint a Knight if you've got one to paint
AoS Slaves to Darkness
Finish these!
NEVER WILL I FINISH THESE.. they belong in the half done pile đ€Łđ€Ł
I have a 2k knight army to do, I actually think I could manage that as it's like 5 models. đ€Ł
the better question probably is SHOULD you paint 2000 points of anything in 24 hours..
I think we know the answer to that. đ€Ł it's just like the night before any tournament though.. *paints until 5am* *Too tired to play*
*_Yes_*
I'll be completely honest. That clock in the back was the real star of this video.
Amen brother! đ
The clock of eternal judgement.
It's always nice to see a classic firstborn marine army!
The Soul Drinkers books were some of the first fiction I ever read from Black Library way back when I was a wee lad. Awesome to see them in mini form.
ya same here, started with chapter war by ben counter
That was very cool. Don't burn yourself out doing these, you can tell by your posture when the sadness starts. Maybe segment everything into a production line of 5 hour blocks of painting, so that way you viewers can see a streamlined way to produce an army. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work.
This was actually a quite inspiring video, honest and human. Well done m8. I also like the purple :)
Thanks so much buddy! It was a real test, but felt like I learned a lot. I'll always try to be honest and show how things really are. I appreciate the support đ
âItâs very cold.â Me in the American South with no AC âluckyâ
Haha, somewhere between the two might be best.
I work a night-shift and then have to do the school run, I only really get any sleep while my children are at school and it's usually around 5 hours. I feel run down and ill most of the time so christ knows how you must feel doing 24 hour shifts!! Hard-core youuuuuu!!
Bro you're an absolute badass doing multiple 24 hour shifts in a row. Really someone to respect
Thanks man! It's a bit mental, but the only way I can find time to get paint on is to but force myself with something like this. More incoming. đ€Ł
Having been that guy who takes a day off of work the day before a local tournament to paint his army, I totally empathize with the fatigue you experienced. And, it's safe to say that your paint job is orders of magnitude better than mine was - even if I had allowed myself a week's time to paint my army! Anyhow - great video. Thanks for everything you do for the 40k community! Cheers!
Haha man, I totally hear you. That's what I always end up doing, stay up until 5am, get to tournament for 9am, aim to be in bed by 6pm đ€Łđ€Ł
Glad you enjoyed the video, and it's only because of people like yourself that I do any videos! Appreciate the support. đ
You crazy bastard, I've had long shifts but never 20 hours, jesus christ.
That being said, good job and thank you for doing this, I read those books so long ago and the nostalgia was strong, props for keeping it true marines. I implore you however, please take care of your health and sleep when you can.
Thanks so much. I will do đ
Exactly, the nostalgia from these guys I strong. I actually converted every single character from the books, Graevus with jis big hand, Tellos and his sword hands, Sarpedon etc. Recently re read them to make sure I got it right and forgot how good they were.
More videos to follow on the soul drinkers, so make sure to check them out. đ
Love the Soul Drinker books. This Chapter would be great as an army
Me too, rereading the books now. I've always wanted to do an army, so I though, why not!? Got all of the character converted and on the go. đ
Been a big fan of this channel since finding it. You two are an absolute delight. Also, if you decide to take this task on again I'm in Australia so I'll be up when you hit that down period, I'll keep your spirits lifted!
Aw Thanks buddy! đ yes, I need global support for the next one.. I might try for longer than 24 hours haha. You can be my night time buddy. đ
Your a brave man to go from long work, to 24 hr painting, and back to work. I have much respect for you sir. I have a ton of Space Marines Iâve primed and they have sat. Seeing people do this is inspiring and I think I will try to do at least one squad of marines tonight...ok maybe 5 seeing as I donât have an air brush lol. Great video and hope to see another timed paint video from you. Just donât over do it if you have to work the next day :)
Solid effort, fair play to you for getting stuck in and commiting to it. They are looking good. I like the colour scheme and the painted sword looks great. a quick tutorial on the sword would be helpfull to me as i need to do some weapons like that on some blood angels.
Watching someone lose their mind over a 24 hr period in 20 mins was funny đ, hats off to you Ollie for going for it and I enjoyed watching the video .
Haha, yeah, I felt like I had aged 10 years by the end of it.. but don't feel burnt out, surprisingly. đ
Thank you for the video. After watching this I went and read up on the Soul Drinkers which was really interesting stuff. Take care and be safe!
Awesome! They're such a cool chapter, with some great books. If you ever get the chance, give them a read. đ stay safe!
Great video. If I had your drive, everything would be painted...My pile of shame is my pile of torment.
Man, if you haven't seen my pile of shame video, check it out.. It's horrendous. Like of torment is a much better description. đ€Łđ€Ł
Get stuck in. Pick and army, a warband, and do them. It's my new plan.
My pile of shame is gradually shrinking too! Good vid!
Yes, get it done!đȘ
Well done mate - great effort. Your channel is really coming on - keep it up đ
Thanks so much guys, I'm trying! đ
Great to see you tackle the pile of shame :) looks impressive :)
Good on you, mate, valiant effort. Those challenges are never easy. Nice to see you cracking through the pile of shame, inspires me to attempt to make some progress through mine.
That's awesome, if it inspires one person, it's great đ Get stuck in and set a goal, then work towards that. Even if you fall short (like I did), it's still a huge step towards getting things done.
You can do it!
Finally, Space Marine army that makes Emperor truly proud â€ïž
Haha, yes! Daddy would be proud.
Minute I saw those spider legs I knew it was soul drinkers.
Nice to see non Primaris for once.
Sneaky sneaky spider librarian.. now take "the hell".
Nice to see it all painted table top standard . Gives me hope to tackle my own pile .
Get stuck in, there is no other way.
This is sick man, you'll see some 24hr action over my way soon. I love how much it forces me to get shit done haha
That's exactly it, it's just an excuse to bother to paint something. Mine will remain half finished forever đ€Łđ€Ł
I look forward to seeing yours man. Joint painting challenge?
@@BroadswordWargaming Definitely soon man haha, just let me get though 9th first wave haha
Good job, very inspiring. Procrastination is my worst enemy đ€Łđ€Ł Once you start you canât stop, itâs the getting started thatâs the difficult bit. I might try a 12 hour paint session after watching this. đđđŒ
That is a great idea. 12 hours is a healthy time to get stuck in, and you much find it gives you the kick you need.
I find myself constantly worrying about my ability, and comparing myself to some of the amazing painters out there, thats my biggest reason for not painting.
We only improve our painting, if we are painting. đ
pretty solid job for an all out marathon job!
Serious effort! Well played
Those 24h challenges are crazy! I think you would get way more done when doing some hang-out & paint sessions, a relaxed way of going in on your own pce while also having some nice chats. Doing some my self via a Discord channel with a few friends
That sounds like fun, good to have a group and chat whilst chilling. I was actually on the phone to my brothers for about an hour during this video, we all tend to do "hobby time" together. Ciara (my partner) has started painting, so it's nice when she's into it. Hadn't thought about doing it via discord. đ
I do struggle to make time though, with life, work and the channel, making time like really helped. đȘ
These guys make me think of the space marine chapter Iâm painting my marines as: the Sons of the Phoenix, also supposed sons of Dorn with purple armour and possible chaosy secrets. Coincidentally one of my Dreadnoughts is even named âBrother Dionysosâ
Oh nice, they sound great. I love fists and all of their successor chapters, they're the best.
A classic space marine name, worthy of any dreadnought. đ
Oh, yeah, that "Imperial Fists" successor with purple armor, a bird wing for their chapter symbol, possible pride issues...
@@ashrog82 haha. đ€ Heresey detected..?
Great progress for the time frame. It's definitely a big step toward having the list fully painted.
Yeah man, they're coming along nicely. I feel free to sit and do them at home without the pressure of a video. Been chipping away this week. đ I'll be ready to take on some evil Admech soon.
@@BroadswordWargaming While I feel it might be more fitting to go up against the Thousand Sons with your particular force, the Ad Mech are always ready to prove the superiority of technology. Unless you're unwilling to fight a heretic legion due to you secretly being a massive heretic.
Good to see more Soul Drinkers. Need to get mine painted up.
Do it! I'm excited to see what the new novel is about. đ
"Mini Broadsword's Guinea Pig Tips" has legs in it imo; might be worth putting that one in the back pocket!
Oh it'll probably happen. đ€Ł
Good effort mate. Good looking force.
Should've gone for Heresy Iron warriors. Easy scheme all in dark metal.
As a staunch 30k Imperial Fist player, this comment shall be removed and purged from the records. đ€Ł SIGISMUND APPROVES.
Amazing work in life and hobby. Rest well, you've earned it and then some.
Great video. I have a hard time finishing projects. So I would like to see a small update when finished. I'm also curious how much longer it will take you. Really like the channel :)
Thanks so much! I'm exactly the same (see massive pile of shame), so I think hitting full armies like this should be the kick I need to get me to finish them off. I won't buy more for them, that way I can move on completely. I also find, if I revisit things after a long period, my painting style has changed. đ
Congrats on holding on for 24h! I would just be dunking models in large paint cans by the end tbh haha
đ€Łđ€Ł It was tempting.
Old video I know, but super nice to see- i'm just about to start a project on my custom chapter of 'storm watch' - deathwatch army for OPR but I am going to be doing a purple and cyan scheme- you're one of the few videos doing purple marines (though mine i aim to have a touch darker, more of a stormy purple) so seeing your process and having some reasonable expectations is going to be super valuable as I get stuck in myself.
props to you i spent 5 hours yesterday on a single model let alone an entire 2k point army
anything about skaven would have me coming back.
Skaven! Interesting. I've not really played with them much, except for mordheim in Its day. đ Bet i coild smash them out with the airbrush..
I do like these 24 hour Challenges. Nice purples, reminds me that I should dig out my airbrush and give it a bash.
Do it!
Get stuck in man.. you're welcome to join me for the next one!
A noble attempt! That was a crazy undertaking.
You mentioned black templar is great for using on things like guns/belts: do you have any videos with suggestions on what particular contrast paints are good for what and how best to use them?
I don't, but that's a great idea. I've started using things like wildwood for staffs or wooden handles, guillamen flesh as a strong wash (So more watered down). Get ready for a video on this. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming Awesome!
Great video man (: I think I might give this a go some day. I feel like it'd be really fun to get a couple friends together and do it as a group
Do it.. I think sitting down with a few friends is a great idea. Just set a goal and work towards it. Even if you all do one army together, help paint each other's. đ
Top marks to you Sir, one for being a hero working in social care and two for attempting this....I'd of hit that wine and given up đđđ
Thanks man! Haha, yeah, I would have had some I think, but Ciara took care of it. đ€Ł
Great job man! I managed to paint one plague marine in that time and was over the moon with how fast I was :) But in all seriousness, you did a hell of a job, and even though you haven't done as much as you wanted to, you should still be proud because you never gave up. You should totally do a shared painting martathon with your missus, get a few bottles of some good stuff and have a few laughs as you both inevitably deteriorate and fall face flat into your wet pallettes at 3 in the morning.
That sounds like a great idea, we can chat our way through it, get drunk, pass out, wake up, and carry on painting! đ€Ł
I appreciate that man. It was a slog but I'm super happy with how they turned out. I've broken the back of the army and now I can work on them as I go.
I'm a slow painter, normally, so this really helped. Try it out a little and see how it feels. đ You can do it.
@@BroadswordWargaming I can see batch painting as a great way of keeping your models' look consistent, but I'm really just starting out. I don't even have enough minis to batch paint ;) My pile of shame is just a few plague marines and a bunch of poxwalkers :P I'd love to see your army fully done though, it's a cool colour scheme and I bet they'd look great on a battlefield.
Iâm building an all primaris soul drinkers army, because I can. Nice to see someone else painting soul drinkers
Yes, love it! đ€© I was reading some fluff, and someone (unofficial I think) came up with the idea of Luko coming out of the warp as the new chapter master. It seemed like an interesting and not too unrealistic idea. Love the Soul bois.
IMO, if you're doing a challenge like this two things are most important overall to help you be more likely reach your goal.
1) Have a plan days to weeks before you do this kind of challenge. By a plan I mean take a unit which about middle of the road painting difficulty and details. These are your test unit for both your painting scheme and process. Paint them one at a time, NOT BATCH PAINT STYLE, to see how long each step should take of your painting process and write it down. Use them to refine your painting process and to see if there is any way to either remove elements completely or cut corners on them. Then do the math based off of those time numbers with that final process and adjusting for more or less detail oriented models.
Your airbrush work should be broken down to the total amount of time along with break downs for each paint that you're planning on using. This way you know if you're falling behind, on par or ahead of the game. The same thing goes for all of your brush work and washes.
Also for a project like this they should also be fully primed before you start, all of your breaks planned out along with all of your meals and have them already made so you just need to reheat & eat... otherwise you're just wasting time.
2) These challenges really are 42 hour challenges. 8 hours of sleep; 1 hour to wake up, shower and final setup; 24 hours which are as planned out as you possible can do; 1 hour to wind down from this challenge; 8 hours of sleep. Otherwise you are not going be able to give your all for either this challenge or any thing your trying to do the following day.
Youâre a absolute mad man for this! It took me about 14 hours just to paint 12 blood angels đ€Ł
I know, looking back, it was a monumental effort.. but it did get them sorted. Im actually about to try something similar (2Ă12 hours) on the space marines from Indomitus. In a glutton for punishment. đ
Broadsword Wargaming Broadsword Wargaming well hey give yourself some credit, not to compare apples to oranges but I tattoo for a living and working on something for hours on end is just mind numbing as all hell! But what you got done absolutely amazing! And that 2 days /12 hours sounds a lot nicer haha keep up the good work! Always looking forward to your videos đȘđŒ
You may not have finished them all in 24 hour,s but you are SO much closer to finishing them all now :D
Airbrushing marine armor is a huge time saver in the long run. My recommendation in attempting to speed paint is to accept a lower standard. Then revisit the models once they've reached that "battle ready" level either after the challenge or if you have time remaining.
That is some going dude nice out come. i wish that I could get some hours to paint i got a 18 month baby boy and full time work. Keep up the brilliant videos
Ah man, I hear you! At 6, they can do a little more on their own, it's less about keeping them alive đ€Ł
You can do it, find a little time here and there, if you can. đ Glad you're enjoying the videos, I'll keep doing my best! đ
You mad man, you aimed way too high! Great video though. Not finishing anything is a drag. I've done several 24 hour painting challenges over the last few years. I recommend next time you do an infantry unit, a vehicle and a character. Absolutely achievable, treat the troops as your greens and the HQ as the sweet, sweet dessert at the end. I also think nobody will minus you points for doing the airbrushing beforehand. Hope to see more of your Soul Drinkers in future videos!
Thanks man! Yeah, it just didn't seem like that many models until half way through đ€Ł I might do another after the zenithals, see what it is and how I go.
You must be a machine if you have done a few of these. Hats off sir.
I only ever paint like this the night before a tournament haha. Classic 4am finish. đ€Ł
@@BroadswordWargaming We used to do them during holidays at our local gaming store. It's a lot more fun to do the challenge with 3 or 4 other going through the same thing. I don't think I could get through it with only a camera for company.
Balthasar gold was a brave choice, it's gloopy and slow to use. Looks great though, one of my faves to look at.
Yeah, it's a really nice colour, especially once oils and highlights have been applied. It went over the purple quite nicely, so it wasn't too bad, thankfully. đ€Ł
They turned out pretty nice! If you add some white liquitex or daler Rowney ink into the white acrylic it goes on smooth as butter. Will change the way you think about white airbrush paint.
Funnily enough, I just bought the liquitex this week. I love it. Smooth and no spitting, it's a game changer. Can't wait to try it out in the next army... guess I'd best finish these first đ€Ł
I think instead of 24 hours at once I think 2 separate days with 12 hours may have allowed you to stay motivated
Top effort mate. If I was going for a 24 challenge I'd got for speed painting methods to get anywhere close to finishing. You were painting to a higher standard so was always going to be an uphill challenge! I'd have ditched the zenithal and used a rattle can for the base colour with reliance on black base coat for shading. Paint the guns and weapons with preferred silver colour and blash wash. Can't cheat on the chest eagles and pauldron rims. That's just takes time!
Ha, yeah, I genuinely believed I'd have gotten more done.. what a fool đ€Ł I didn't really want to lose quality, but could have done something so speed along. Lessons have been learned, mainly 2k is more models than you'd think ha
@@BroadswordWargaming 9th edition will help given the overall points increase per unit/model but your point stands! Quality vs Speed doesn't always have to be a trade-off but for someone with your painting skills it probably does mean a trade-off. I don't have enough skill to have high standards so not a problem for me :D Keep up the quality content mate!
wow man beautiful work i dont know how you manage to do it to that standard in that tiny amount of time tons of experience im guessing! anyways i subbed looking forward to more content
Aw, thanks so much. It's a slog, but it gets the core of the army done, giving me time to finish them up in my own time. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming i can only imagine fantastic work though keep it up youre inspiring me to get my guard finished! i just sprayed my first 20 infantry with zandri dust yesterday so ill probably go back and touch up where the primer missed today then start painting tomorrow or something!
No procrastinating for a good 12 hours. Thatâs impressive
Haha, I've been procrastinating for about 10 years. đ€Łđ€Ł
I'm a simple man, i see soul drinkers I like and subscribe
Haha. The easiest sub ever. Thanks! đ
Your a mad man with that sleep pattern fella but fair play to you, excellent video. How did the airbrush and more importantly the compressor hold up for that length of time of continuous use? I've been umming and arring over getting that exact one since your little review of it so would be interested to know how it held up.
Ha, it was crazy really, but the only place could fit it in đ€Ł
The airbrush is still going strong, used it today! đ it's been a bit of a workhorse to be honest. I will look at getting a "better" one, but I'm not really sure what that'll change. I've had this for nearly a year and it's great. Highly recommend, particularly if you're bee to airbrushing.
Get one, you won't regret it. đ
Would love to see these finished đ
Haha me too! Tbf, they're a lot further on than this now. Got a few squads done.
Great effort man! No chance I could manage it, I'm such a frustratingly slow painter.
Don't know how the fuck you managed to pull a 24 hour shift after this though!
Me neither, didn't feel great đ€Ł
Like yourself, I'm a terribly slow painter, but the airbrush, sponge chipping and oils have really helped speed up (and improve) my painting.
I did a video a few weeks ago on 5 tips to improve your painting, check it out if you haven't. Might help. đ
24h just painting (minus a few breaks) is a long time, great job. I think to make it more about fun and less about the time challenge, maybe try again w a fellow mini painter
I think that's an excellent idea. đ I'm on it. Could be more fun to have a buddy.
I volunteer as tribute!
@@ciara7458 You're in. Good luck.
insanity! waaaaaaaay too many points for a 24hour marathon! but well done.
Haha, thanks man. Yeah, looking back, it didn't look like loads to begin with, but obviously was. It did get be past the boring parts though, so the army is ticking along nicely now. đ
Really well done, The trim for space marines is time consuming and there's just no way around it, I think the models that were finished were absolutely awesome.
Thanks buddy! Yeah, the painting just takes time right, nothing you can do. đ Thank you so much for the kind words. đ
Looking great, love the results from the airbrush. Can you tell me what compressor you use?
Thanks! The airbrush and compressor are just cheap ones amzn.to/2DslJuI they come as a set.. I've had them for over a year now, and still going strong. I will upgrade at some point, but this will still be good for basing etc and travel. đ
Broadsword Wargaming thanks for the info đ
I've been thinking of ordering a 2k point space marine army if I do it on Monday it will come Tuesday morning and then I could get it built and sprayed in a day then getting them finished by the end of the week
Easy.. or is it! đ€ŁDO IT!
Broadsword Wargaming haha I might as well got a ton free time at the minute
Trying to execute that plan would result in 2k points more space marines in my pile of shame lol... built and primed mind you!
I saw the spider legs & immediately thought of Sarpedon and the Soul Drinkers. Not sure how they got some Primaris units.
I included just the aggressors, as they look cool and I felt they fit the breaching/centurion role (and i dont lile centurion models) They're also there so I have a decent unit for the army đ€Łđ€Ł
Love Sarpedon. He's awesome.
Ben Counter's Soul Drinkers books are what got me interested in Warhammer initially. I've painted about 1500 points of them, as primaris though, as I was getting the Imperium magazine.
We didnât need the clock to show how much time had passed....we could just judge it by the craziness of your hair as the video went on đ. Great work though well done đ
đđđ
Haha, I didn't notice it until I actually watched the whole video back. My hair goes totally mental for a while.. I think the depressed head in hands helps too đ€Ł
Just gave myself 5 days to paint a 60 model army from my pile of shame. Tomorrow morning is the last day and I'm pretty much done. They're not perfect and are very basically painted, but giving myself this challenge of painting an undead army in 5 days was really efficient in making me paint some of my unpainted miniatures that I wouldn't have otherwise started painting. And even while giving myself a 24h ultimatum, the mental was the enemy, some tasks are really discouraging. But it's such a great feeling to be done with it and succeeding in that challenge !
That's amazing, well done! I think I'm a really goal orientated person, so the pressure helps force me through it. If you can enjoy the process too, that's even better.
Well done for getting them painted, it's a really satisfying feeling. Looking back, I'm happy with the progress, despite the fact I have a lot left to do. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming Yeah ad I imagine had I not met my goal the fact it had forced me to start painting them is a good thing because once I did start them I might as well finish them !
Hope you'll have the motivation to finish yours ;)
I do like the high number of space marines and not primaris.
YES! I've only just started coming round to primaris, but the Soul drinkers were like 36th Millennium, so I kept the army as fluffy as I could (except 3 aggressors because they look cool). FIRST BORN FOREVER.
I came to post the same thing. I love the lack of Primaris!
@@BroadswordWargaming Huh, I think that agressors (and gravis stuff in general) is absolutely hideous. Easily the worst looking primaris models, at least in my book.
You're a machine!
I'm probably mad.. but I'll take machine. đ€Ł
Next time i would still count what you had painted in 224 hours but do it in 4 6 hours slots and have regular breaks like you are supposed to with a compputer still 24 hours but not such a nightmare
I thought my build, magnetize and paint 7 imperial knights in 7 days was ambitious. hats off to you sir. (it was a Castellan, 2 normal knights with all weapons options (crusader kits) and 4 armigers (2 helverins and 2 warglaives) for those curious)
Thats sounds like an epic session. Building models takes so long definitely took me more than 24 hours to do that.
My next video is actually similar to what you painted, so itll be interesting to see how far along I can get with my knights! Did you manage to finish them?
@@BroadswordWargaming yea I got em done but only with 2 hours to spare. CZcams let me post links or photos would post here. But throwing some on Instagram in case links can be copy pasted instagram.com/p/CDBm_NulSSd/?igshid=14xfkiniam823
Hey! looking at the air brush your using , wondering what you think of it? for the price it seems like a really good starting point without having to fork out on an expensive one and not even enjoying using one.
thanks
I think it's great. Its cheap, but it's lasted for over a year, with quite a lot of use. Sure, more money will get you something better, but I think this is the perfect way to learn. đ honestly, the airbrush has changed my painting world.
@@BroadswordWargaming thats awesome thanks! im only wanting it for large models and undercoating so looks like it fits what i want. thanks again :)
Great job! Hard to get through dips. I always find Space Marines a bit boring though, next time Bolt Action?
Yeah, I think that was the hardest bit.. but made it out alive đ€Ł
I've got a few projects I could get on with, and my early war Polish are in there. They all got stolen years ago and I never had the heart to repaint them. The airbrush would make short work of them though đ So stay tuned, their time will come.
I would suggest perhaps not so much a points goal but a modest model count, if you meet it great, if you exceed it, all the better. I found during the 2 month shut down that i need to do small number goals every couple of days, anything else drives me insane especially seeing as how i'm a hobby butterfly.
Just went for too high quality on the marines for a speed paint job. If you did just a quick dark purple airbush -> lilac purple airbush -> light brownish colour on base. Skip the weathering because it takes too long. And then the details without being too neat. Then just an all over oil wash on everything. Would look decent but not great, but thats the price for a 2000(!) point army in 24(!) hours.
Thanks a lot for the great video though, absolutely love speed painting.
You mad magnificent B@stard, well done, I don't think I would do this unless it was for a commission and I had some how left it till the last day... pretty much like everything I did in college! =P
In all honesty, it felt like the night before a tournament. đ€Ł too many times have j stayed up until 5am, starting at 7am, then being too tired to play haha. The things we do. đ
Can you paint 2000 points of models in 24 hours? No. No you cannot.
Right you are.. got a damned good way through them though. đ
i could barely stay up close to 24hrs anymore before i start shutting down. i get angry when i'm sleep deprived
I really enjoyed this video, what is your space marine chapter called?
These are the Soul Drinkers, based on Ben Counters books. Check them out, they have lots of stuff online.. or better yet, read the books if you can get hold them, they're great. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming i love the color scheme and the name. Ill check them out, thanks mate :)
good work
Thanks! đ
I could do almost the same vid, but mine would be "Can I paint 24 points of Warhammer 40k Space marines in 20000 hours?"
Spoiler * the answer is no ;-)
đ€Ł that might have to be my next video. It's taken me like 15 years to do soul drinkers. Aha
When I saw the title I thought this man was mad...
Hero. I could maybe paint a 2000 point worth of titan in 24 hours but not to a good standard.
Haha! 1 big boy. I will be trying aother soon, need to smash through the pile of shame somehow. đ
That was impressive, donât think I could stay awake that long, maybe if the chair was comfortable. Iâm planning on doing 100 total figures by the end of the year starting 1 September combination of Death Guard and Ultramarines. Only thing though I really only have 12 to 15 hours per week to dedicate to it. Also like you I want to do a good job and not skimp on anything. Maybe I document my journey.
You can do it! Finding time is so difficult, I struggle alot with it. Between work, a child and the channel, this was one of the best ways to break the back of an army.
My advice would be, get a solid scheme, thats easy to replicate and just smash them in stages. All undercoats, all zenithals, all colours etc. Its a little dull, but now I can work on things in smaller batches. đ yeah, document it, why not!?
Broadsword Wargaming I have scheme for space marines: ultramarine blue, for the Death Guard: Death Guard green. I have all my supplies, just need to make sure the compressor will work with airbrush or Iâll stick to rattle cans. I plan to work in groups of 5 when it comes to the painting and Iâm saving death guard and characters for last as they are going to take the most time. I watch your videos regularly they are very informative. Itâs amazing how the painting aspect has changed since I last painted a model. All I ever did was paint and dry brush, thatâs it done. Keep up the good work and thank you very much for the advice and inspiration.
I literally did a 24 hour challenge with my game group Monday/Tuesday just gone. I tried to build and paint 2 start collecting boxes in 24 hours... yeah, I built some models... đ
Is that a space marine riding a giant spider?
He IS the spider. đ€Ł Its Sarpedon, the last chapter master of the Soul Drinkers. They have an awesome back story, check them out. đȘ
I wish I could do this, but my job wonât allow it, stupid surgery... great job!
Just stay up forever and don't go to sleep, it's fine đ€Ł would make for some wonky surgery.
What type is the mini on the cover, the purple one with two swords?
It's a bit of a kit bash, but mainly a space marine vanguard veteran. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming Thanks bro! Going to buy one box of Space Marine Vanguard Veteran this weekend!
Decent effort, I find i start painting to much and slowly at each stage whittle it down so I can atleast get 1 figure finished and thats only over a couple of hours đ
Thanks, looking back, it was rather ambitious, but I'm happy I did it now.. made a real dent and has allowed me to finish them up unit by unit.
That's exactly what ended up happening with me, just the one model.đ€Ł still, at least they have 1 model finished now. Haha
Huh, these spider legs sure look weir...... OOOOOOH, you're making Soul Drinkers!
đ·đ· Hi, I'm sarpedon, want to see "the hell"?
I've got a bunch of Primaris coming in that I traded for recently. It's going to be my first real 40k army so I am pretty excited, but I don't think I will do all my painting in 24 hours lol
Oh nice, what faction are you going for? No, don't try for 24 hours, unless you're crazy đ€Ł It was a great way for me to get stuck into them though.. you can do it!
@@BroadswordWargaming It was a toss up for me between Salamanders and a custom White Scars successor. I ended up writing a huge google doc of lore for the successor, so I went with them. They are a desert based chapter that takes a lot of inspiration from the Fremen of Dune.
That sounds amazing, I love the Dune stuff. I painted an army for 'Beyond the gates of Antares' as Fremen. You should get them done and get rolling some dice, sound epic.
Gran Gran reto muchas felicidades
Very interesting!
Is this THE Ben Counter, or his namesake? Either way, you got a mention. đ€Ł
Broadsword Wargaming Yes, âtis I. I saw the purple Marine in thumbnail and was very happy to see the lads getting some love.
Ah nice đ Yes, they are a pretty standout chapter. I might as well ask, as you seem to be the man who would know.. it is bone trim with gold details right? đ€Ł
I actually have some future plans for these guys on the channel and I would love to pick your brains about a few things. Would it be possible to get in touch with you somehow? If you had the time of course. đ Would be greatly appreciated.
Broadsword Wargaming The SDs use bone trim on the regular guys and gold trim on the officers. The gold looks great on everyone, though. And you can get a hold of me through Twitter, Iâm @BenCounter.
Excellent, thanks for that đ I've switched all the regular rank and file to bone, but sarpedon and gang have stuck with gold.
I'll drop you a message on Twitter. đ
I think I see The Hobbit on that shelf back there. I still suggest MESBG (Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game)!! It's such a great game, and painting at a different scale, if even slightly, is really fun.
My Mordor force has purple as its theme, so I love seeing it on these Marines!
I love the Lotr stuff, I actually filmed a battle report last year (if you haven't seen it). My men of Rohan are calling for aid, and I shall answer. Oh, actually, if you're an LOTR fan, I've for a treat of a video coming up.. it'll be super fun. đ
@@BroadswordWargaming I have not seen it I'll have to watch that in the morning! And I cant wait!
Meanwhile I'm over here burning out on painting after like 6 hours. How much do you think ergonomics helps with extended paint sessions? I've got a nice table to work at but a not so great chair and meh lighting.
A comfy chair, good table height and good lighting is really important.
I had 4 of my studio lights back, so that wasn't an issue. The chair and table weren't great for posture. A straight back, painting with your elbows on the table would have been better.. I ended up with a case of paint neck đ€Ł
@@BroadswordWargaming paint neck! Now I have a name for it! I get the same thing when I'm installing lots of small box hardware in my side carpentry job!
