Nice to see someone talking about Claymore. I could tell the characters apart and they do have different personalities but they do sort of have same face syndrome. Different body types would have been interesting for the Claymore warriors which is shown more in later chapters. The awaken beings have some of the best designs I've seen in any manga or comic.

I swear, I remember the Yoma better than the claymore. Rista, Dauf, Priscilla, Isley, Luciela, Roxxane, Cassandra, that's all i know from the top of my head. Now, remembering the names of the claymores... Clare and Teresa. Good point, I do agree with you. Though, there are some traits in appearance that make them more recognizable like a scar, some freckles, the eyes, one claymore even had a different build. Not sure if the twins would work as an example since they both would have to be next to each other. There was one character which turned out to be a defect but they'd be the only one with that specific difference. I feel like the killing off of some of the characters was for the better so there would be less to keep track of. Good video, subscribed

As an artist... I see the differences between the characters, and greatly adore the subtle differences. That being said.... yeah, they could have helped a brother out and changed the uniforms to be more like xmen level differences at least.
I've always enjoyed the exploration of trans-humanism and augmented warriors in media. From the contrasts between the kidnapped Spartan 2s and orphaned spartan 3 and even the more human, non-child soldier Spartan 4s across the halo games and novels. To the believable portrayal of medieval super-soldiers in the Witchers and how they're all a little off from being inducted as children and facing the horrors of the world. And especially the absolutely balls to the wall absurd Space marines of 40k and their inability to understand normal humans. I'll be sure to check out this manga but it does sound like a missed opportunity to avoid human uniqueness in the character writing and design. All the other examples I listed have delved into the psychology of these hardened trans-human warriors or even the way they interact with and are interacted with as that itself provides an interesting angle for storytelling when done right. So with that in mind I have to wonder what the artistic motivation to make the characters so samey.
I probably gave it a little too much flak ngl... It's a great read. And it really goes in depth about the "trans-humanism", so you'll have that to look forward too!
way late comment on the surface Claymore might seem "simplistic", but underneath, it's very deep and complex both in terms of its "in-world" stuff and also it's literary stuff too Claymore = Star Wars + Christianity + Mary Shelley's Frankenstein + Beowulf one of the big themes: what is "human/good" vs what is "inhuman/monster/evil" are the Claymores, monsters or humans? are the humans or yomas, the true monsters? "necessary evil", "one must become the monster/evil to defeat the monster/evil", "one must erase their humanity, and sacrifice humanity, in order to save humanity" Clare: "Fight for those you've lost, Fight for those you don't want to lose, Perhaps, that is what it means to be human" Teresa: "Say your prayers, you b'st'rds, you're worse than yoma!" Teresa: "A little girl, half my size, taught me that, that, tears can flow, from even silver eyes" Teresa: ~ "Live as a human, grow old as a human, die as a human, that is the greatest gift that I can give to you" Clare (striping naked in front of everyone, lol): "I don't want nice clothes, I don't want nice shoes, I just want to be with Teresa forever!" (what a confession of love, there's no beating that, laughs, damn, lol) Claymore Creed: ~ "Kill me now, while I still have the heart of a human, so that I can die as a human, with a human heart" ------ here's just one example: 'Beowulf' Claymores are weapons, bio-weapon killing machines, created and trained and conditioned, at very young age, for the sole purpose of killing yomas, to protect and save humanity from being killed/eaten'ed into extinction by the yomas Clare starts out so cold, emotionless, and ruthless, but with every chapter/episode, Clare will slowly regain her humanity (thanks to Raki, and other Claymores, and others), becoming more and more human yet again, having to learn how to be social and behaving "normally/humanly", and so do many of the other Claymores as well too, having their humanity taken away from them, while trying to reclaim and find it again this often gets overlooked and/or taken for granted, but it's just one example of how really deep and complex Claymore is far beyond its surface (and its surface is really deep and very complex too, lol)
It never even crossed my mind that Claymore characters were difficult to distinguish. Is it bc guys have more difficulty differentiating HAIRSTYLES than girls 👩😎
Um maybe idk I’ve never had trouble with any other manga series distinguishing characters other than claymore it’s cause nearly female character in the show is pale and has blonde hair hairstyles don’t make a character different enough
way late comment this guy can instantly tell every significant Claymore in just one quick look (and can list, name, rank, and etc details about every single one of them too, all from memory) Claymore forces you to pay attention, in order to tell them apart, they're all very distinct, when you actually pay attention, they're so easy to tell apart
