Flooded garage might have totaled 3 of my cars

- Really unfortunate one, but sometimes it's like this. Sadly it looks like my garage flooding has cost me the turbo Camaro and, more importantly, the little Suzuki Cappuccino. But we'll bounce back!

dude, let's fix this. we can do it.
😮 now we’re talking
Cappuccino x P1 Collab? Yes.
a flooded garage is like the bat signal for tavarish
Now that would be something to see, car trek is maybe on pause so 2 great channels would be epic!!!??
Yes dude !
We need more of Ben's dad on the channel. He seems fun.
I think he DID do it! #TheRealFloodStarter
I was just gonna comment on Ben's dad's immaculate vibes 👌
😂😂😂
what does Bens dad drive????????
When he walked in the door my mind was blown, he rented a room to me in his house while I was in college back in 04 or 05. Super chill nice dude from what I remember. Always had a cookout going and company over.
Here in Brazil, some garages in São Paulo insulate the doors like dam gates, and also insulate the walls, because if the water rises, it stays outside the building. In the absence of an option to change addresses, it may be an option. Sorry for the losses.
Im from Brazil too! Thats why sometimes i reather buy car from others states! But great point here, in Brazil people would have anouce these cars as brand new kkkk
As a fellow car enthusiast, I'm so very sorry this happened to you. My heart sank. I know they are just cars, but we adore them. I hope everything works out for you.
Despite the hardship, it's cool to see the friendship of Thorn and Mark throughout the video
Got to see them in person this weekend at mid ohio and it's really cool to see it's not just on camera, they're really buddies
Becareful, my brother garage also flooded. He and his family were really sick after cleaning things up, the water maybe bring in nasty viruses and bugs, dirty water diseases and parasites. Need to get full body PPE, walking around in sneakers and direct skins will risk your health badly.
Yeah I'm surprised they weren't wearing at least N95 masks. That would be the least that I'd wear
That's CAT3 water for sure. PPE is a must.
"Any type of flood water poses serious health risks, but the black water in Category 3 flooding is very dangerous. The contaminated water exposes you to pathogens that cause serious diseases including:
Hepatitis B and C
Norovirus
Tetanus
West Nile virus
Tuberculosis
HIV / AIDS"
probably leptospirosis.
You guys are soft. Water is a gift from heaven
sadly flash floods and overland flooding will become much more common. to protect your home and your garage, perhaps see whether there are landscape consultant or whether diversion drains may reduce how water may enter your home and its surrounding. all the best to you, Ben and your crew. you guys make amazing videos.
You reminded me of the Texas floods a few years ago. There was a BMW M3 owner that managed to save his car from flooding by rasing it up on blocks. Having a lift installed in a garage would be perfect to save a car from rising flood waters.
i was thinking the same, getting drainage or worst case scenario...... rebuild the garage higher
Why will they become more common
Flood remediation is a big undertaking. If this garage is positioned such that it takes on 2ft of water in heavy rain, you're not going to fix that with some ditches. Notice how his power points are half way up the wall? This garage was built with an expectation of flooding. My wife designs flood remediation for infrastructure. It's massively expensive to fix a situational problem.
I’m so sorry, Ben. My family’s basement flooded when I was little. I remember my mom crying because she had lost almost 100 years of family photos. I didn’t understand it then, but I definitely do now. Eventually she was able to compile a good chunk of them back from the rest of our family. You’ll come back from this!
Well if it makes you feel any better, Tavarish feels your pain.
And will probably end up buying them.
@@izziebAnd Mat Armstrong will fix them
I shouldn't be laughing, but I'm laughing
I have no sympathy for tavarish. He bought a flooded car. 😂 they are incomparable.
Joking aside, Freddy is THE guy to call in this situation.
Get a collab going, get some good videos out of it, and you learn from the guy who's fixed up a bunch of flood damaged cars.
Ben, get those thick tent type of tarps. Lay it down on the ground and drive your car over them then wrap it upwards like a present when you not using it. You can double layer it too and those are pretty good water resistant. We do that to our cars here during floods and it keeps the car bone dry.. Hope this little bit of advice helps you and anyone else facing this issue :)
That's an amazing idea
Thanks for that great piece of advice. I don't live in a flood zone but with weather patters changing it only takes one freak storm to really cause damage.
To add to this, any water that DOES get in will be miniscule and actually due to the opening being oriented towards the sky, moisture that builds up from heat will be venturied-out through the top as well. sort of like a steam pot.
Man, i just discovered your channel and it's refreshing to see someone keep a smile even at low times like this instead of others that overdramatize for a little thing, keep the work up, and most importantly the good attitude :]
it felt real, we dont get that much anymore
to be fair, this is more than a little thing. if he dramatacized this i wouldn't blame him. something like this would break me. i agree, it's refreshing to see how positive he stays.
@@hvrbros8730 yeah, I agree. This shows that being real and not overdramatizing things like flood damages is OK.
Great to see Thorn and Mark helping out with the cleanup and providing moral support. Friendship is a beautiful thing! Keep your head up Ben!
Only 20 seconds in and this is just devastating stuff, I’m so sorry this happened to you. This shit is always really hard. I hope to see the Camaro fixed, thankfully it was already flooded once, she’ll hopefully survive a second time
They don’t get called boats for no reason after all..! Hopefully…
The Camaro seems pretty salvageable to me, I believe they even sell plug-and-play wiring kits for them in case the whole car is fucked
Ben I’m so sorry. This is a really difficult thing to overcome… we hope you can get this stuff sorted quickly. If you need time away I know the g&g audience will understand completely
Love to see you keep it together. Very sorry this happened. Been following you for a long enough time to know you will bounce back!
When our workplace got flooded, something we found out over the course of several months following: even things you think survived and are okay will often have issues and quit, or go bad, a lot of our electronic items we had up on shelves were simply not built for that sort of humidity and temperature put together over an extended period of time. Paperwork in manuals up on shelves, we'd open up and find mold growing inside. We had to get rid of nearly everything that couldn't be cleaned with bleach and water (and survive the cleaning). It was truly depressing.
Kudos to you for being so composed in such a terrible event. It's very painful for me to watch your loss. Hope to see your Evo run in the future.
Holy crap.. I’m so sorry Ben. This is one of my biggest fears living in Florida.
Here in Florida, we're all so numb to this. My toolbox has been knee deep in water 4 times in 20 years. The difference is, we know it's coming and can prepare.
@@bandwagon240 I moved to Florida for work I’ve been here a little over a year, if I’m not mistaken he’s up in Virginia they basically get the same weather we do.
@@enjoythedrive23 don't take this the wrong way, but you've got a lot to learn. Hopefully you're in a high area.
@@enjoythedrive23 LOL you may get part of the same storms but you are seeing it well after it hits landfall, Florida IS that landfall taking the brunt of the blow before it ever reaches you. Look at Louisiana and how its actually washing the states landmass away. Not in a small way either, Since the 1930s, Louisiana has lost over 2,000 square miles of land, an area roughly the size of State of Delaware. Some researchers estimate that the state is losing a land mass equivalent to 30 football fields every day...
@@bandwagon240 🤣🤣🤣 what are you even talking about. There’s is nothing to learn if Mother Nature wants in she’s coming. Sands bags and boarded windows only do so much. Elevated property which I own, only does so much. You act like Florida is the only place that floods. Florida is one of the few places that gets slammed by hurricanes sure but even then it’s not as bad as say Ian 🤷🏾♂️
Hey Ben, as you can tell everyone feels for you and it doesn't feel good to see this happen to anyone. Your attitude and positive mindset towards getting on with clean up and moving forward is admirable and great for others to see. I'm sure you'll get back to where you need to be in the future. All the best.
Props to Ben and Mark for helping out! Friendship is a wonderful thing. I'm glad you managed to keep your spirit up. When the video reached 10.40, I couldn't help but snort water. Keep up the good work guys.
Brutal. You may want to investigate options for the house such as a French drain and sealing the garage.
Holy crap, so sorry to see this,Ben L.! I'm speechless. Hang in there and hope everything turns out ok.
As someone who lives in central Va, I know a few people who had flooded houses over just the few days of storms. Hope it gets worked out yall, love seeing y’all drive around town too!
Holy crap man, I'm so sorry to hear this what a bummer. Seems like you have your hopes up and your dad has a good sense of humor as well, you'll bounce back from this!
Your positivity in a situation like this is amazing. You have such a big heart. I am a JDM brother and i wish i had so great friends that you do. They coming together in this and helping is so heart warming to see.
Im so sorry this happened to you brother. Stay strong, together we’ll get through this!
I’m praying you get everything back on your feet!!!! Please post updates! Stressing with you.
I can't even imagine, but cheers to you and the team for buckling down and getting it cleaned out. If you need to make more videos of just scraping mud off the floor & walls, I'll be here to watch 'em.
Love the work you guys put out. I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Wishing you guys the best.
I think a ground up restoration of the cappuccino will be a cool series, it's such a cool little car and you don't see many, I think it deserves it!
😢 I'm so sad for your loss guys I love your channel and as a car Enthusiast this makes me feel very sad especially when you lose something that you work very hard on I wish you the best and hope that you're able to move forward and make it through this godspeed guys
Were so sorry Ben, hope this doesnt set yall back too far. Were gonna be here and support the channel no matter what!!❤
Damn man I’m so sorry I can’t imagine how you’re feeling. All of that hard work you’ve done I really hope you overcome this
im here for you G , im so sorry this even happened . we can all say what ever but nothing can equate to how you yourself must feel inside . God Bless and i pray rebuilding your dreams manifest for you sooner than expected so you can keep enjoying the rewards of life and your hard work .
My heart breaks every time I see or hear of a garage flood or fire. Garage reno in the future??? Silver linings, Ben.
This is so sad man 😢 I can’t even imagine how you feel. I’m glad that the evo made it through all that shit. It just shows you that this car is meant for you and with a little love, you will be back a running together.😊
The take away is that the S2K wasn’t in the shop when it happened. EVO needed a swap anyways so it gets you over the hump. Sorry that this happened to you. You can tell the team is really together when you see Ben and Ben throwing jabs at each other but when it really comes down to it. The team is there for one another. Let’s get through this !
Love that you were able to take a step back and see the silver linings, good job man. Much love from the PNW, hope everything works out!!
I’ve had the same thing happen to me. You will be very surprised how much stuff won’t be effected. I only lost a engine because I had forgotten about it and didn’t look at it after the flood. But a big positive I looked at was being able to clean all sorts of things I had been hoarding for many year. Shop was also very clean after as well. Hope you have as much luck as I do and nothing is hurt as much as you think.
I went through this a couple years back and it sucks… Sorry this happened. Keep your head up!
Ah man, im so sorry to see that happened to you. Hope to see you and those cars come back stronger and cooler! Ganbatte, Ben!
My heart goes out to you Ben. I know you will come out stronger!!
It's so sad to see the cars in such a condition. But I'm glad you're deciding to keep your Evo, that car and the channel have been such an inspiration for me to start my project car. The only place you can go from here is up so keep it up! Love the videos and I hope the Evo and cappuccino aren't gonna be too much of a headache for you.
Damn this was sad to watch but you are taking it way better than i would have. Stay strong and rebuild my friends! Best of luck and love your channel!
Before even watching the video I’m devastated, stay strong guys!
It might be a downhill but the uphill is right around the corner for you.
Oh my heart. I hope you're ok Ben ❤ stay strong 💪 you got this 🙏
I feel this, man. Had lost my first project car to flooding, but since then, whenever some heavy rain would approach the area I'm in, I keep my cars lifted on some jack stands in the case it happens again.
shit man I felt it too. Hope you get things back in order soon.
Sorry to hear that :(
Had to leave my car in my work parking lot today for an issue I couldn’t figure out and was super frustrated, then I saw this. Really humbling man thank you!
I'm sorry for your loss Big Ben. I do home that you can recover from it. I hope that you can salvage what you can. Be safe guys.
This was a hard one to watch, and as im usually waiting with anticipation for your videos. I literally could feel the pain through it! As devastating as the scenario is,I hope you guys keep finding it as motivation to get all three of those cars into a better place. I have watched ypu guys for years and the amount of smiles that Lana has put on my face is uncountable! Keep your chin up Ben,looking forward to seeing you bounce back stronger then ever
Thats bad....i hope everything goes well with recovering as much as possible. Good luck Ben!
Everything can be saved. I was worked before with regular cars and supercars flooded in Florida and Brazil too! They come back to life perfectly. But the job needs to start soon.
good reason for some renos and flood protection. I like that you were trying to be positive about the hoarding
I hope everything turns out ok for y'all 🤒😢
It's heart aching when watching this. You've done so much to these cars 😢
Sorry you’re having to deal with this, Ben. So much respect for your continued positive attitude and even sense of humor despite setback. You’ve got this!
As someone who lived in a house that had a basement that flooded every spring for 13 years: High shelving, and if there's a known point of entry for water, pack that area with something absorbent (I used cat litter that starts as a wood pellet, but turns to saw dust when it gets wet - If you need to replace it, you can suck it up with a shop vac when it dries, and it absorbs a decent amount of water). It won't stop water from getting in, but it could be the difference between an inconvenience and a disaster
I've watched 14 seconds and I'm already gutted.
As someone who in Houston has seen flood damage, I will sadly tell you the cars are going to be totaled. Best of luck.
pardon my teenager-ness but cant we just dry off the mechanical parts of the cars?
@@karpich1994 the mechanical yes, but anything with electricity running through it is now ruined or super problematic.
@@karpich1994every bearing, seal, and fluid is ruined. Trans, diffs, engine, are full of water and corroding. Electronics and all connectors are junk. Everything the moves or rolls is junk
@@karpich1994 There would be a chance if the water was clean, like drinking water clean. The problem is now you need a extensive clean and drying process which would be even more expensive than buying a new car if the work is not done for free.
Thanks for answering :)
10:20 Tears of sun...
Don't give up, get up and keep going!
Man this is sad and you still smiling thats amazing spirit.
Dehumidifier the real 👑 in all seriousness, you got this Ben. You can turn this all around. We’re rooting for you!
Haven’t even watched the video yet and I’m already devastated
So sorry to see that your fleet has been reduced to buoys. That's the fun of working on cars. 2 steps forward and 18 steps back sometimes. Keep your head up Ben.
That's heartbreaking, im so sorry for you. I dont know how you kept your composure....
You have amazing resolve! You can get through anything
What an absolute gut punch. I’m sorry this happened to you. Luckily you have great friends that helped you clean all that up.
So sorry to see this. Glad your friends rallied to help with cleanup.
Please make the cappuccino into a build series. Weirdly enough I know most cars in this situation are a write off but I think I speak for everyone when I say we want to know what exactly to do in the event our lifelong cars end up in this situation. Sorry you had to go through this but that just makes the comeback that much more sweeter.
Never keep valuable items in a *Special Flood Hazard Area*. Make sure the structure is elevated. If not, purchase flood insurance contents coverage for $250,000 which is max available without buying excess flood coverage. Flood insurance is not cheap depending on how many feet the Lowest Adjacent Grade (LAG) is above/below the Base Flood Elevation (BFE). Every foot below the BFE makes the coverage cost go up exponentially.
So sorry about the damages Ben. I suffered serious flooding several months ago down here in FL. All my cars got wet, but luckily was able to avoid damages. I feel for you.
I am looking into designing some French drains around the house as well as a sump pump system to divert water into above ground barrels to store and then use for watering plants. We do not have to just live in fear, we can try and mitigate it. Good luck with everything. I know all to well how you must feel.
Sorry to see this. Looking forward to seeing you rebuild.
I love Ben's Evo 8, sometimes I watched again the Evo 8 journey from cross country & track days. I hope Ben is strong this difficult time & hard budget to restore back all his cars..Peace from Malaysia!
As ManKandy from Garage Fab would say...."Keep moving forward."
I skipped this vid earlier today, cuz I just wasn't in a mental state to handle the sadness. I'm glad to see you got things cleaned up and have started moving past it.
One other good sign is maybe we see more auto detailing videos of these cars getting cleaned
So sorry man, it’s hard when things like this happen, especially to your babies you’ve been putting your heart and soul into. It is only stuff at the end of the day, it can be fixed and/or replaced.
All the best dude!
So sad to see this happen to you but you'll be okay glad to see you have such good friends to help
I never wanna feel that kind of pain, the time, energy, money, passion, building over years, and water taken everything, it is one of the worst scenarios... i am truly sorry for your loss.
Having gone through a flood, it sucks so bad. I feel for you a whole lot. Best of luck!
I know what you're going through man, feb this year in Hawkes Bay we had cyclone Gabrielle. Lost about 5 bridges and many lost homes. The damage ranged from nothing, to complete house submersion. We were lucky, houses in the area are built about a meter off the ground, but our shed got about 10 inches if water in it. I drove my most precious car out to higher ground to avoid any damage and thankfully it survived. Best of luck with your evo, i know well see it again soon. I hope you can figure something out with that shed.
Looks like a fresh start for a new season!!
Irrigation, french drains, undergound basins, and exterior bags and shield to redirect water. Also you can dig around the outside perimeter and put in some additional drains to help.
Sorry this happened, hopefully the EVO bounces back.
Your reaction to this absolute tragedy inspires me and gives me hope. You remained basically calm and professional the entire time when there are channels that would easily jump to over-dramatize such a traumatic event. Props man. Sorry for your losses but keep up the great attitude.
I hope you don't let this setback beat you up too much. Keep up the smile and work forward through this. We all will watch whatever you post and support you through this.
My Diamante wagon got flooded to the same level as the interior as the Evo, and I was able to save it by pulling out the interior and carpets and cleaning it up. I did have to replace the alternator due to noisy bearings and SRS ECU outright, and pull apart the starter motor to clean it up as the brushes got stuck into their carriers and weren't being forced onto the stator. Am glad I spent the weekend doing it, I feel the car turned out better than it was before.
Man I feel for you. I had 2 rare old Audis get flooded parked outside my apartment. I was devastated as one was sentimental and other I had a long time and just built the engine. I rebuilt them mostly outside. It sucked ass. I wish you the best on getting shit sorted out especially the shop from flooding in the future!
Glad to see you're still looking up instead of lamenting anything lost. This is a good excuse to go ahead and build and organize the garage like you want now that you've had to clear and clean everything anyway. Sponsored garage organization content soon???
So sorry to hear about this, good luck with the next step, whatever that may be...on another note seeing your evo gave me the push I needed to buy an evo 4 I was considering. I literally messaged the guy while watching this episode and confirmed the purchase. So thanks for the encouragement.
I hope you guys keep the Camaro and cappuccino around, and make a series out of fixing them. Would be neat seeing you guys fix flood damage. All the best.
Just saw this video pop up. Been too busy working 12 hour days. Just wanted to say, everything happens for a reason 🙏🏻ill be praying for you and i know youll get through this and youll be back up on your feet in no time🙏🏻
His voice. So sad yet so calm and collected
Sorry to see this Ben you’ve handled this like a champ, looking at the positives you guys are amazing
I would be devastated. What a bummer. Hope your house is fine.
Sorry to hear man. Im sure you will bounce back!
a few weeks ago we got 11 inches in 12 hours and i got 17 inches of water in my shop took out my plasma cutter, welder, new riding mower, powder coating oven, saws and various other tools. I also had stuff to sell, use, or give away that i had to throw away, it indeed made a decision easier I could never seem to make before.
Bummer dude love watching your videos! You guys always keep me motivated to keep wrenching!
I feel you pain. Stay strong!
Just had the same deal happen to me on July 20th. Lost my Fiesta St so I most certainly empathize with you man.
