Mark better get a raise after this episode 😅
The look on his face lol
definitely 👍
A for effort !
I was thinking this the entire episode. 😂
I’ve watch him wrench and diagnose but replacing an entire roof 😲
You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could. You didn't stop to think if you should.
I haven’t liked this Ben since he made that smug video, when he still had his Ford zx2, he made a condescending video about affording his cars because “it isn’t that hard, just manage your money” completely disregarding his free/heavy discounts... and years later when he gets bad COVID ( no idea if he’s vax or not ) does he sell his cars for money? No he begs online. This Ben is a turd.
*You didn't stop to think if Mark should*
I was thinking the same. Basically threw this STI to the trash
Damn you didn’t need to cook them that much lol
Ha! Jurassic Park!
Lost it at the "After calmly discussing our options," nice throwback to the kei car series 😂
Yea same
yeah he just needed to say it about 3 more times XD
yep also noticed it
It always reminds me of the "Dumbledore said calmly" meme hahaha
anyone else remember when ben said that this STI was going to be his /daily/?
daily as in work on it everyday hahaha
at this point, he might as well just gut it and use it for his wheel to wheel racing.
@@LChinezetoo unreliable for that, Subarus won't take the abuse..
@@geogmz8277 he swapped out the subaru block with an iAG block.
@@geogmz8277Subies compete and do well in almost all classes of racing. Minus roll racing and pure drag racing
What if they need to add 10 lbs of sealant to make it liquid tight?
lol
Gotta thank you guys for this one. I had illusions of putting an RA roof on my STi and now I'm 100% OUT 😂. I'll wrap that thing.
Haha..man you just beat me to the exact comment I was going to make. Me an vinyl wrap are about to become good friends!
Exactly who this video was intended for. This is just way too much work and money. Glad to see this whole process.
The stress alone doing this kind of job isn’t worth the supposed center of gravity weight gain. The only way I’d be down to do this is if my car came from the factory like this already. A lot of sTi owners have sun roofs. It’s a better option having a sTi non sun roof car and leave the roof alone.
yes. I had a chane to buy a RA roof. glad I didn't
My father taught me an important lesson...don't fix something that ain't broke.
They're not fixing it
@@mitchellsteindlernow they will be 😅
Yeah don’t touch it unless you really really want that particular upgrade
@@hungryaliensoooo, technically it's broke 😂
Don’t change it unless you have CZcams money.
I love how Jason on Engineering Explained just had a video saying goodbye to the Miata and mentioned how ridiculous carbon roofs are for how little weight you save for the price point
I watched that video just before this one. Perhaps these guys should’ve watched it too before spending all that time and money on a leaky roof 😄
I know mark was a mechanic of some sort in the military, but to have the versatility he has working on cars is impressive even if he had years as a professional auto tech. More mark in the content please - I love seeing the way he goes about doing things.
Mark better get his own build series after all this lol
Absolutely, or I quit
I had a bad day and then I watched this episode, I think I'm alright now. Thank you Ben & Mark.
Couldn’t agree more!
Like I said in the last video
This STi is gonna go from "500hp daily" to MY STi IS A RACECAR NOW!
He just has to buy a few more race cars first
This is what being a youtube car guy is all about - financially questionable decisions which are exceptionally entertaining.
As much as I find this channel entertaining, the moral of each video you guys make seems to be that the more you modify your car, the worse it gets 😄.
Props for making the attempt. Obviously youre going to have it 100% when its all said and done. I think the next move has to be different seats cuz they have to be hefty as hell
That and a carbon trunk for sure
100k car, tens of thousands of hours, all for this, a Subaru with a leaking roof. Remarkable.
It'll be a way better car than gr corolla for sure
@@mengx94 Yes but with a GR corolla you know you have a car that's more reliable, fuel efficient, cheaper to maintain and way cheaper. So it's not really a fair comparison, still a great build.
The most Ben thing ever 😂
All this video did is make us feel bad for Mark
lol, it did haha, so true
The problem with sealing it up inside the car is that the water can still get into those channels and just sit and fester away in there.
I love how well Mark has just blended in with this channel/group he has been a great addition!
Lol I love this car but $7k for 8lbs and a whole lot of trouble😅.. This is why most people just wrap the roof.
I’ll take this episode as a cautionary tale 😂
Guys, spot weld cutters and smoke machines to test for leaks are your friends. Good first attempt tho. You'll get it right, but like i always say "Hot rodding will kill us all... Usually from disappointments" 💪🏆
good job, you guys are really raising the roof with these uploads
Bro don’t ever give up. Just keep going. We here to support u. Keep them videos coming. You’ll get thru this just have faith in god. Blessings 🙏🏼🙏🏼
At least no one will attempt to do a carbon roof swap after this. Kudos to you both on experimenting this job
Thanks! The level of craft in this episode was amazing.
I respect it, this is your pride and joy, the little details make it perfect :)
You guys are so good at filming, story telling, choosing music... It's an emotional rollercoaster for "just" one mod. I love this channel
Lot of work. Both of your patients is impressive
"after calmly discussing our options" thank god its still going
Great video, Your videos are so therapeutic to watch. Keep making them.
Mark is a patient man, damn.
Great video. Makes me not want to drive my car but also makes me want to drive it more. So much goes in to that prep.
That was a good video. I really dislike when things don't workout. But helps us become better.
That is a monumental amount of work.
Love the honesty at the end of the video.
Mark is a trooper and deserves a raise
Go Ben! Proud that you tried something and learned.
Man you guys are game. I love working on cars but zero chance I'd ever do this level of a job. Well done!
dynamic duo + fantastic music
It makes me smile to see the Escort still hanging around in the background. That's such a cool looking little car, and I'd love to see more content with it. I get why it's been on the back burner for so long though.
Took some SERIOUS guts and commitment to take on mod of this level. Win, lose, or draw. GREAT JOB! 💪👏👏👏
Mark is just as important to this channel as the cars are. We need tonsee his S2K get some love though.
So thankful I get to watch you guys do this instead of having to do it myself I get wtfs just hearing you talk about it 😅
So much respect for the amount of work and determination
Marc is an absolute BOSS.
Gives new meaning to the term “Labor of Love”.
That's some great craftsmanship
Don't worry man you'll get this figured out keep at it.. you got this
Amazing job 👏
Awesome video as always.
Loving the extra Mark content. And he is a trooper doing this.
I’m so glad you’re doing this, I’ve been sitting on a type ra roof for almost two years now, too worried to install it on my Sti.
Thx Mark, youre the best
This is the most ben thorn thing hahaha
“After calmly discussing our option…”
I get PTSD from this.
Great video! Mark is really entertaining 😂
Damn you.. I think that's the one I've been keeping an eye on! Good grab!
Well that sucks... And now it's leaking. I have a feeling this STI will be on Sale soon!
Mark was a great addition to the team and the shop looks great!!!
It is that thing: you have to set a goal for your project. If you do not set an ending, you will end up putting stuff on your car that will make it worse and will cost you a lot.
Right now, I have two projects:
The street car is done and I enjoy it the same way it’s been two years.
The off-road vehicle is crazy and I started to regret the three last major modifications. It has to stop.
This is a good example of all ways have someone experience with doing this kinds of jobs leave it to professionals or have them guide you in to doing it right
Gear and gasoline trying to keep their car as stock as possible for atleast 3 years challange *(IMPOSSIBLE)* *(GONE SEXUAL?!?)*
This video was a GREAT display of a mod you shouldn't do and all the reasons lol hope you guys get it fixed for your peace of mind Ben
Dude, There is some beauty in putting blood, sweat, tears, and 8 hours of grinding into your project... it's definitely not the 8 hours of grinding, but there is beauty.
Bought a set of 4 Continental tires at discount tire through your link. Thank you!
Deng those floors are squeaky clean
What i like about this channel is that they are very meticulous in rust and aesthetics.
Honestly thats an insane job lots of work for a really unique mod. Very classy.
This made me so anxious!!
This has to be the best video I've ever seen about the dumbest thing ever. Amazing contrast. I bet you guys learned a lot from it though.
Good effort dough, I has happen to me try to fix something, and at the end have to run to a mechanic so they can finish it properly, but there is still satisfaction and lot of experience. Great job!!
Great vid as always, but also loved the music the whole time
I wonder how regular Ben drives this car
Regular Ben? Is Asian Ben not regular? Also he daily’s it
@@austinlee9291regular sized ben
@@hunterbodell1129 small ben
@@austinlee9291He meant how regularly* dont be so dense
Ima guess less than the F150. The real daily 😂
So is this why you wanted the non sunroof version to begin with?
Probably. But, non-moonroof roofs are significantly lighter and more rigid.
Kinda a waste of a non-moonroof chassis to just rip it out and put in a carbon roof anyways.
and more headroom
@@haphazard1342 What's the waste (other than money)? It dropped nearly 10 lbs off the car which may lower the center of gravity an inch or two.
less than that@@mhicaoidh1
Evolve Automotive just did their M3 touring during the week and they clamoed all the corners. I would go for this approach over putting tyres on the roof as any flex in the middle may pop the edges up.
Solid job though and love the factory OEM carbon roof.
Really glad to see the Escort there making a cameo!
Hope to see a build on that soon!
Appreciate you taking one for the team! 😅
That is A LOT of work!
If anything, for science! Thanks for not hiding the leak problem.
Mark is the man
I’m glad you tried, it was cool to watch
Miss the blue ford, was nice seeing it’s still around. Pls bring back content on it
I just noticed my Polaroid is on your black tool box!!! It was awesome seeing you guys at NJMP GridLife, look forward to seeing ya'll again next year!
Mark is the man! We need more recognition for Mark!
This is starting to delve into the realm of deep OEM+ mods.
My favourite kind!
Still awesome work!!!
It was such a pleasure meeting you guys at gridlife! Thanks for signing my Hondata!!!🖤
So sick that you installed the cf roof. Carbon fiber paint match doors next!?
Love the video!
Thanks for sharing both your successes and your failures. I was wondering if you were able to seal it buy just removing the windshield and rear glass?
This is the most m subaru STI thing to do..this is like the last bosss mod Sti ownership level type of shit and I’m here for it…wild….love it haha
Truly admire your courage for such things hahaha
Wow! The lengths you go through for excellent content! Thank you for all you do - every week.
I love how Mark is so careful with it
I felt the pain at the end. I was very hopefull because I want to do the same thing to remove the sunroof. Getting rid of a sunroof would make a big difference in weight reduction.
Keep in mind that you can still recover from this, just going to take some time. Money aside, IT IS FIXABLE 😁
But cmon, we all make mistakes on our builds, but we keep going because we love our cars ❤
Don't listen to all the negative comments, hang in there. I'm excited to see this car come back.
thank you for suffering through this so that we didn't have to. all for the passion. now do a miata build!
Mark is such a good friend, sucks the roof leaks after all that hard work….but damn that STi looks good.
I have continental 6’s in my G1 insight and I think they’re the best eco tyre on the market. The Michelin tyres go rock hard and crack so soon!
Hell to the no no no for this hahaha insane amount of work . Poor Mark.
This things gonna be so nice you wont even want to drive it anymore! Haha amazing car i love this build as always G&G is in a class of their own.
That looks like an insane amount of work
Love the honesty! Commitment! And content! Great episode!
