God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and the sequel to 2018's God of War. Based on Norse mythology, the game will be set in ancient Scandinavia and feature series protagonist Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. - Hry
I dig how Kratos and Atreus are having this meaningful conversation, and Fen is sneaking up towards them like "Pet me, pet me, pet me, pet me YAY I got pets!"
Fen is best boi now!
a dog will forever and always be that.a dog longing for his pets
Noticed that too. My pupers does it all the time.
For real, they had no business making Fenrir that gotdamn adorable, and I love it!
Fenrir is such a good boy!
Atreus: "Don't be sorry, Father. Be better"
Kratos: 🙂
Me: 😭😭
I really thought kratos was about to kick the shit out of the bird I am sad it would’ve been cool
Kratos said that too early in the eps, that is why he smile because Atreus remember it
@@r.andrew4748 It is also what he said while killing Baldur.
Bravo to the editor for making Gorm’s boss health bar say Gamer
“ is that Atreus?” Nah man it’s a random ass baby they picked up off the side of the road
Lol
That baby is in this comment section
Also called supper
Can't stop laughing at this🤣🤣
He’s B-treus
I legit shed a tear when Kratos said “I’m sorry” and Atreus said “Don’t be sorry, Father. Be better.”
I laughed my ass off. It was such a good moment, releasing all the tension that was built up between father and son. I had tears welled up but was almost howling with laughter.
"Father, have you considered getting good? You know Aimlabs is free, father"
1:54:55 to replay and cry over it 😢
Atreus used Kratos’ actual quote against him 😂❤
A bit overdramatic, but alright.
Fenrir as his giant self acting like he was when he was a regular size wolf is probably like the cutest thing I've ever seen in a video game especially
Let's hope Fenrir isn't a lap dog/wolf
@@amirhaikal6672 the term is lap dog
@@codyhunt5916 Fenrir ain't a dog ain't he? And that is a slight mispell
No now he gets to be the boy's cozy warm bed that will protect him from any harm
Yes it was my favorite part! He got his best friend back but he's huge and still acts like a big ole lap wolf 🐺
Tbh seeing him get fenrir back made me cry for joy
hearing kratos say 'i am tired' was one of the most gut-wrenching lines i've ever heard. my heart absolutely shattered for him.
Kratos so emotional in this game bro it’s like they marketing it too females 😭

I love the detail how at 4:20 he just tosses his blades to the ground, but with Faye's axe, he actually takes a moment to look at it and appreciate it, before putting it by his bedside.
Great writing there.
He also still kinda drops the axe but for the pouch he tenderly lays it at the side. Its a good progression of how he cares for each.
@@idiatico and also rubs the pouch after putting it on the table
I cant remember who said it but someone noted "Kratos sees the Blades as a cruel reminder of his sins and guilt while the axe is more of a legacy and a tool to him"
@@Lulu-ht8kk Kratos himself has said that he hates them and tried to get rid of them multiple times but they kept returning back to him
@@Lulu-ht8kk there was a comic released around the time god of war 4 released, detailing how during Kratos's journey from Greece to Scandinavia, he kept trying to throw the blades of chaos away, with them reappearing around his wrists every single time no matter what he did. They will always be there to remind him of what he did and torment him until his final days
52:30 the way Atreus treats Ingrid like an actual sentient being, talking to it and gently handing it to Odin
And Odin just grabs it and drops it on the bed
It hints at their personalities and their moods at that very moment, specifically Odin.
The way he gets Ingrid back from a Atreus is more like a taking kind of way instead of a being handed something kind of way then after that he just tosses Ingrid down onto the bed revealing his true emotions at that moment.
Pissed and disappointed. But he knows that he has to keep up the act to keep Atreus.
Odin is a silver-tongued bastard, but his actions scream out his true nature.
I love how when Kratos goes to sleep, the Blades are just dropped like boots he's tired of wearing but the Leviathan Axe gets a moment of appreciation before being set down by his bedside. Not a line of dialogue spoken but it sums up the clear emotional connection Kratos has to both weapons.
Yeah most people don’t realize what the blades did to Kratos and they just think they’re weapons but they mean so much more
the blades to kratos are like shackles, while the axe is a weapon, tool, and a memento of his loving wife
This was my exact thought when I did my playthrough
He hates the blades because they’re a curse from the man who caused all his suffering , but he is fond of the axe and spear since they were gifts from loved ones
That whole scene was an absolute masterclass in storytelling without ever saying a word
The scene where Kratos goes to rest in his room and just looks so tired is so damn powerful that it made me shed a tear without even a single piece of dialogue in it
Please support me
Me too, that scene got me real good.
My guy just needs a damn break
It’s heavy even Kratos someone who seems like nothing can weigh him down slow him down stop him or break him is just tired now he’s sick of it all and wants it to end
Also the framing and lighting of that scene make him looks so old and frail despite his muscular and massive build. It really show how he is feeling
1:00:56 Mimir’s reaction to hearing Atreus’ freed Garm is such an underrated reaction, I mean the way he said it just shows you that Garm is no joke.
Great bleedin fuck, you freed Garm?!
"Aye! This is fuck up of not so insignificant proportions!"
Garm!? Great bleedin fuck lad you freed Garm?
26:31 do you think Sunny was trying have his lunch and the voice team people came up like "we need another take of you saying the thing!" and he was just like "*sigh* Skjálfa."
I hope so 😂😂
I love how one of the first things Odin said to Atraus when he got to Asgard was "Im not your father" but then continuiously calls him 'son' affectionetly. Really playing up that manipulative angle. He seems like the PERFECT characterization of a cult leader. Charasmatic and intellegent. He says all the right things to make it look that he isnt the bad guy, but has an iron grip on everyone under him and pourposly underminds anyone's objections by insulting them, making them feel weaker or dumber than him. He is an amazing character! (terrible person, amazing character)
He has many forms of manipulation and with Atreus it seems that he is trying to replace Kratos as a father figure while making it seem like he is not doing so. It seems that his approach to different people depends on their personality and what he thinks will work best.
@@emperorofinception3571 and he specifically says that with Thor he is rude bc it's the only language he understands, therefore showing usage of different approaches on different people
@@emperorofinception3571 kinda feel like you said exactly what the other guy said just with less words😂
@@stitch7668 With Thor I wonder how much of that is due to how Odin raised him, he clearly defers to his father's orders regardless of his own opinions and allows Odin to verbally abuse him. In fact, I wonder how much of his overall personality may be because of how Odin acts as a father. Thor seems to be treated as an abused dog which based on conversations, overheard by others only does what Odin tells him and never stands up to him. The rest of Odin's family he seems to view depending on whether he views them as a help or a potential hindrance at any given time. With a patriarch like him having the majority of control and influence over everyone, it is no wonder this family is messed up.
@@chikenfartz It still bears repeating since it seems to be the most dangerous part of what we have seen of him thus far. His ability to get into someone's head and make them do what he wants seems to be part of why he has such strong control over the other gods. Zeus ruled because he was the most powerful of his pantheon, while Odin rules via more subtle means.
I love the detail he indifferently tosses the Blades aside in the bedroom scene, but gently sets the Axe down.
Nah he kinda lets the exa fall aswell, just onto the table instead of the floor
@@Savenya_Amari still had more care for his wifes axe than his abusers blades
Also the parallel to when Odin just tossed Ingrid away...
Reminds me of that time a reporter was in Mike Tyson's home and was about to start going off about the all the belts he had on display and Mike went "thats trash. garbage"
which was after he had lost his child too.
@@Savenya_Amari so we just gonna pass up the fact you somehow spelled axe backwards. Not wrong? But backwards? How?
Jack, roughly 2 seconds after the game says Garm is soulless: “He’s gonna steal his soul”
A cool detail I noticed is that Garms fur is white, but when Atreus pue Fenrirs soul into Garm his fur altered to a gray to match what Fenrir looked like before he died, also the eyes changed from a hazy green to brown
and he's fluffier
Gamer*
Ur wrong it’s not garm it’s gamer 😒😒😒
He also has a white patch over his left eye
Put a fuckin spoiler alert man come on 1:01:55
The way kratos drops the blades on the floor but puts the axe on the table really shows how the blades have caused him so much pain and cause so much suffering and the axe is a gift from his wife and a lasting memory of her for him
They did curse him. But they did help him make his son *not* die
True that
@@Sergus0 It's still not enough to make him even like having them, they are like keeping a knife that killed a family member, it might be usefull but you will always hope to not need it. Sadly he needs them for now, and while he uses them without being painfull anymore it still is a reminder of what he doesn't want to be again.
That's my line of reasoning at least
@@Voc_spooksauce he just can't throw the blades away he tried in the past but it keep coming back to him everytime in the most convenience way possible
I appreciate the detail of Sean's editor changing Garm's name to Gamer during his boss fight and even adding gamer head sets to his bio in the journal

This was exactly the comment I was looking for.
I didn't notice the name until like mid fight lmao
Came here for this comment. Thank you, friend. I thought the headset gave me the giggles, but when I realized he’d been renamed in the fight, I lost it.
I noticed it immediately and was hilariously impressed
God, Kratos without his weapons or armor, looking so tired - he's never looked so old. The years and emotions wearing down on him as he's dealing with so many new things
1:46:07 "No. A promise. One that someone's trusting me to keep. Like you kept your promise to Mom." The promise to Faye was to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in all the realms... in Jotunheim. I feel as if Atreus is trying to _very_ subtly indicate that his promise was related to Jotunheim too.
& also the facts that their promises were to women that they fancied 👀 (a “girl” promise) which is different from a normal one
Garm before having Fenrir’s soul: *Immortal, tears through realms, very angry*
Garm after having Fenrir’s soul: *A good boi*

2. Kratos's apology? My feels! My emotions! I can't 😭😭😭😭
I love that at 1:01:23 Kratos, even after all of the bs Atreus has pulled, loves his son so much that he just wants to help him find a solution. It's so touching. Kratos is wonderful
There's very little in the world of media that can make me cry but this episode managed to do it *several* times
I just love GoW
Damn, Odin's characterization is so good. The way he gently takes the mask while telling Atreus he understands why he wants to leave and then taking Ingrid to hurt Atreus and tossing her like nothing while continuing to pretend he's not mad and that Atreus is always welcome back. so good.
Its amazing that you are so subtle in showing what kind of monster Odin is. Usually his portrayed similarly to Thor but I think having him be a fragile looking old man on the outside and a manipulating bastard on the inside is much more impactful. I agree with Jack. I wasn't sure about his portrayal at first but I think its a very nuanced character that had a lot of work put into it by the actor and the animation team. BRAVO!!!
Yes, agreed. Noticed that too when I first saw it. Such a subtle way that show he's a dick. Love his kinda easy going portrayal.
Ingrid, i think, is Sumabrander, The Sword of Summer, Freyr's Sword
@@anonymousllama014 Would explain why Freyr has an empty scabbard on his back
He gives me the vibes of maybe Steve Jobs and also that Bond-villain boss Homer worked for in that one ep. of the simpsons. There's something very modern and almost corporate in his HR-style chumminess
I cried when Atreus realized that he missed his father. I was bursting in tears when he faced Kratos and hugged him
me too! I was absolutely sobbing at that moment
That shit broke me down so hard, one day I hope to have that moment with my mother..
I had a 😐 face, but my heart melted
It was a good reminder to us that no matter how capable and skilled Atreus is, that he's still just a child who has too much on his plate. I'm so thankful that Kratos didn't reprimand him and chose to give him comfort and reassurance instead. This is a turning point for both of them; a good reminder to Kratos that no matter what, his child will always choose to come back to him and will never see him as a monster like his internal fear suggests, and a good reminder for Atreus that his dad will always help him carry his burden and that he doesn't have to do things alone
That and at the end when they finally grew together... Also love the small smile from Dad when Atreus told him not bo be sorry but to be better
I just realized this, but when Loki talks to Ingrid and everything, she kinda feels like a person or her own character, so when Odin asks for her back when Loki wants to go home, and he throws it down on the bed at 52:48 , it sorta shows his true colors in such a small but clear way
he didn’t throw it on the bed, ingrid hesitantly allowed him to take her off his back and atreus showed anger at the thought of odin wanting ingrid back. it’s basic body language
I noticed that too also weird to call atreus loki
@Tarararanasouras-rex he literally did throw it on the bed what're you talking about
This episode has been a total roller coaster of emotions, seeing Kratos smile for the first times in years just makes the world brighter
i think that was his first time we ever saw him smile though
correct me if i’m wrong all he did in the greek saga was be angry or be angrier
edit: or humping but let’s just skip that
I love how because Jack called Garm "Gamer" the editors gave him a headset and swapped his name out in the boss fight, that's fucking hilarious-
So fucking good. I cracked up at the perfectly illustrated headset lmao
Editor deserves a reward for that alone. I was laughing my ass off when I notice it throughout the first part of the fight.
It’s literally such good humor
I was wondering if that was a mod or if it was edited in post. In the first episode, instead of God of War, it said Dad of Boy.
@@thevirginmarty9738 That was more hilarious than anything, the way it popped up when he said it and then stayed the whole time. The editors show real dedication for that
Fenrir slowly crawling towards Kratos and Atreus was so cute. Frenrir is tied with Ingrid for best character. Also yay Atreus actually had dialogue with Speki and Svanna
Ingrid is a sword, that fights. You have no idea what it says. And it's tied for the best character?
Mimir? Hell, even Freya?

The opening cutscenes for this episode is easily one of the best examples of "show don't tell" I've seen period. You don't just SEE how tired, war-torn and beat up Kratos is, you get a Sherlock Holmes level investigation into basically every scar and calluses stretched over wirey muscle. Kratos looks like he's been walking up hill in a desert for 400 years and you can literally feel it. My boy needs a hug, a spa day and to go chill on a beach somewhere for the rest of his days but he still marches forward into damnation for his son, his last tether to anything he could possibly care about. It's amazing how much we've seen him change and grow as a character across all of the games.
Whenever somebody says "the only way to give a character depth is to have them be weak and sobbing and explaining their emotions out loud", I just think of how Kratos conveys so much with one lip-quiver.

it took them VERY long to finally have a heart felt conversation. finally they did it
That scene where Atreus ran to Kratos to hug him actually brought me to tears. The way they portray his confusion and his fear, him finding comfort in his father's arms is so goddamn well done. My father passed away in 2020 due to cancer and since then, it's been hard to find any comfort that even compared to that of my father's love. I'm so glad they made such a huge deal about it here and I can't wait to see what's in store for these two next. God bless you Santa Monica.

One interesting detail I've noticed is how those without souls have white pupils, we can see this in the animals that Gryla had used in her cauldron and same with Fenrir in the beginning of the game when Atreus unintentionally placed his soul into the knife. Garm's pupils were white the entire time until Atreus inserted Fenrir's soul so it didn't feel out of place that Garm doesn't have a soul when there were indications of it when we first saw him.

Atreus might still have Odin's spell to keep him warm active and Kratos probably doesn't even notice the cold fr
As a guy who's had some heart-to-heart conversations in his life, I can tell you that the setting ceases to matter when the moment is finally right. It's like a social compulsion to drop everything and see to your matters, whether that be a bond, a hardship, or something else. You do come back out of it wishing you'd had a better setting though, sometimes it's even funny to realize your body has been sending you alarm signals that you've been subconsciously muting.

"Lambs Cress... I'm a fucking god of war."
Kratos could feel himself feeding into the cycle that Kronos and Zeus were trapped in. Anger and paranoia. And he's so proud of Atreus for helping him finally break the cycle.
Fax
It’s good to see Kratos finally opening up and talking about his feelings
Yes, because a God of War needs a good cry once in awhile. Tyr clearly wasn't nearly as effeminate as he needed to be... 🙄
It's a good message for all of us men. Sometimes just spill your damn guts to someone. Keeping everything to yourself is not healthy, no matter how "manly" some say it is.
@@brianmurphy6480 bro what 💀
@@smokinggnu6584 I’d rather have a good massage than to show my true intentions
@@brianmurphy6480 We found the man too hyped in his own masculinity to be open about his feelings.
"you where not there to ask" it's kind of interesting to think that Kratos likely doesn't have to act on a lot of his own curiosity cause his son asks a lot of questions for him so he doesn't need to ask a lot of the time.
He also probably thinks Atreus is likelier to get more detailed answers.
1:37:34 They are in the realm of the dead, and the killed Garm. Where else would he go, Detroit?
Hel would be better than Detroit tbh
hel is Detroit basically
My favorite part of this episode after Fenrir is told to sit and kratos and Atreus have their little talk he lays down and does a little crawl to get attention from Atreus. That shit brought me to tears cause my dog does it as well.
1:46:00 is the time stamp for it
He had puppy dog eyes and I couldn't handle it
Seeing Kratos reaction to Atreus returning and the two of them just hugging each other was so refreshing to see. This whole time expecting him to be furious, but he's just glad to have his son back and safe. Man, they've hade some massive growth recently. It's good to see Kratos finally opening up and talking about things a little. Seeing them both finally bond and apologise to one another warmed my heart. Them walking with their arms wrapped around one another... 🥰 God, this episode pulled on your heart strings.
Especially when kratos defended Atreus when everyone was shitting on him
One cannot deny that the dialogue, the emotion, the sheer POWER of this game makes it easily one of the best of it's kind. To see father and son, healing, and Kratos donning a huge smile, ah, now that, that right there is how you make a game.
Skjöldr is such an awkward guy I love him
He becomes a powerful Nordic King in the mythology, you know.
at 1:00:10 kratos looked like he was holding back tears when they were hugging, that made me tear up so much. i love this game and i love the both of them so much.
Definitely one of my favourite scenes in this game
For a second it looked like he was thinking “okay I’m done hugging you…oh, your not done. Okay”
I love how he goes from holding him out of instinct, to letting go, to hugging him of his own accord
Also if you look closely to Kratos’ mouth, you can see him full of emotions. That’s some good detailed animations there
Bro his lip quivering broke my heart. It was so fucking sweet
The editor being a legend as usual, naming garm as gamer in the first battle was hilarious! 😂😂😂
The editor also gave Gamer a pair of headphones on the journal drawing and blends in perfectly.
I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't part if the game lol.
@@gibleyman LMFAO it was edited? I legit thought it was part of the game 😹
I think He also used the Same font for it, it Looked exactly like the real one 🤣 I looked at the headphones on the sketch and if I wouldn't knew he called him Gamer I would assume they belonged there 🤣 what a nice gem in this video 🥰😋
@@Dawood_Awan True lol, this easily tops the already legendary "Dad of Boi" title edit from the first episode in my opinion.
@@gibleyman That was clean too. But this was just wonderfully carved and blended xD
Sean wilding over the gory kills Kratos does will forever be my favourite thing in this series. Exactly how I reacted as well when I first played so I'm glad to see someone else is enjoying them as much as I was haha
Ohhhh that tension between Thor, Sif, and Thrud is some top-tier family drama.
DOGY.
Ugh, Atreus’ face when he ran to hug his Dad was such an expression of “I’m not even scared of you being mad- I missed you so much!”
I started tearing up when Atraus told Kratos "Dont be sorry Father." "Be better." And whenever i saw Kratos, smile, literally smile, made me tear up and smile too. That was one of the most wholesome things ive ever since in a God Of War game ever.
God, those moments where Kratos is feeling the weight of the world, and you see just how fucking old it’s made him to keep carrying it alone. It’s no wonder he’s fucking tired. All of us would be tired.
Jack: shocked Pikachu face about Ratatoskr swearing
Brok, who's been swearing throughout the entire damn game: hands on hips meme
I love how Odin fits as a lovecraftian villain, obsessed and driven insane by something beyond his comprehension
What if its all a trick?
@@apoorv_sharan if it is, my money's on that bitch athena somehow.
@@nrishiee5231 where does she come in all this?
@@apoorv_sharan my bet is that the mask and tear are in a way related to her
@@apoorv_sharan It might not be, for once.
While still worded in a way meant to manipulate Atreus into trusting him, Odin seems to be genuinely obsessed with knowing what the thing behind the tear is as much as he's obsessed with averting Ragnarök (To save his own skin).
His uncontrolled thirst for answers makes him controlling, and the fact he just cannot force things to be HIS way is what's twisted him so much he hurts everything around him. His paranoia regading anyone that might pose a threat to him has made him torment everyone not under his thumb (The Giants, the Dwarfs and the Vanir), while his pathological desire for control seems to be why the Aesir are as hated.
Baldur having been a demented sadist consumed by his hate, Heimdall being an unlikable fanatic, and Thor being a brutish attack dog good for nothing but violence and destruction (Which even he seems to be sick of, surprisingly enough) can all be traced back to Odin wanting THAT out of them all.
I must confess. I teared up when kratos apologized just because of how absolutely wholesome it was to see him indirectly tell atreus that he loves him ❤️ he truly is The Dad of Boy❤️
I'm not crying, you're crying 😭😭
@Yol Riin Lask He's 15 max, no more than that. He's still very young.

Draupnir is a magical *pure gold* ring that duplicates itself randomly. when it does duplicate it's self it makes 9 copies, all pure of gold. Essentially infinite money. There is only 1 draupnir, hence why Sindri stored it with a device that would always hold the 1 ring when it duplicated. I forgot why it was made, or who orginally wanted it (wasn't Odin, but it was Aesir). Really cool concept though.
Draupnir in Norse Mythology was created as a gift for Odin by Brokkr and Eitri ( Brok and Sindri) as part of a contest against the Sons of Ivaldi which was all organized by Loki after he cut off Sifs hair and Thor threatened Loki to fix it. On every 9th night it makes 9 identical copies of itself, and that’s basically the whole purpose of if, a self duplicating ring as a gift for Odin. The whole story is very interesting and it explains how Thor got Mjiolnir as well.
Kratos saying “I am sorry” was the most emotional shit I’ve experienced with his character
When Kratos said ‘I am your father, I will always help you, as long as I am able.’ That broke me. Haven’t cried as much as I’ve cried at this episode in ages. Absolutely loving this series Sean, thank you.

I never had a dad so most of the emotions are entirely lost on me.

i actually teared up when kratos was laying down, PHENOMINAL scene man, good shit
3:27 I thought that Thor was referring to his fight with Faye that caused the other frozen lightening that Kratos didn't recognise.
I love how the more into "Loki character" Atreus is becoming, the greener his eyes are getting. I think thats a very good attention to detail thing they added into the game, because it's not just his personality and character but also his physical self that is changing.
Oh I thought it was just me
Woah such a good observation!!!
How tf do you notice eye colour changing????
@@joker8123 I think his eyes started as blue, I noticed it was green in asgard, ans was wondering about it
@@joker8123 I noticed only once or twice because some of the ways he turned towards the camera in cinematic scenes, his eyes would actually glint a striking shade of green. As a young boy in the 2018 version, his eyes were very blue.
The scene in Kratos’s bedroom was so incredibly powerful without a single line of dialogue. Just an amazing character study. And the scene with Kratos smiling is just insanely wholesome. Definitely the best episode so far
Jack saying “I’m a huge fan of things just going absolutely wrong” mere moments before Atreus makes the biggest mistake of his life makes me happy
Definitely an awesome follow-up after the 2018 version and honestly, even better due to the character development for everyone. Not just Kratos, but Atreus as well.
I’ll be honest, I teared up when Atreus hugged Kratos, and even more when he wouldn’t let go.
that scene almost got me 🥲
I teared up 4 or 5 different times in this video
I can't believe all it took for Kratos to smile was an incredibly well timed dad joke...
I actually genuinely feel for Kratos right now. He's been through a lot man to see him completely not sure what to do to get to Asgard and trying to figure out it while he was having to go sleep poor guy.
