It is not a coincidence that once he was given a run of games to adjust to the Premier League, playing in his natural position, he has started to look good. Ten Hag was making it difficult for himself by not playing his best players in their right positions. All he needed to do was implement the right tactics, starting his top players in their preferred roles, rather than using the unconventional 4-1-5 formation throughout the season.
