This is like the perfect horror ending. Not a happy ever after, not an edgey "everyone dies horribly" but the protagonists prevail at an enormous cost with an uncertain future ahead of them.

@@Iron-Bridge So I looked it up. Priests can ask for the name and number of demons, but the Ritual does say not to talk too much to the demon because, again, it is trying to deceive you. It is trying to stress everyone out and get the priest to leave them alone.
It also says that if the possessed is a woman, then the priest must have several women of good moral character there during the exorcism. And that the priest is not allowed to recommend any medication without consulting and gaining permission from a doctor.

The final lie being that Max used to date/sleep with Lane is pretty weak. If they were currently cheating with each other, maybe. But being in the past, the murder of the nun is much bigger than that. Plus, Lane is equally implicit in keeping that from her fiance so he should have blamed her as much if not more. So Boo on that whole scenario.
I actually thought the nun was going to be revealed as the demon tormenting them because, to me, it was much more of a big deal than the supposed cheating incident.

Was honestly expecting the old “it was a setup” ending with it all being set up around them outing max for being a liar. He confesses then all the people who “died” get up and he realizes that it was a setup.

That would’ve been awesome! Although I like that it was real. I think it’s scarier for him to be faced with a real demon. I thought it might be a setup but the cloth pulled from her throat and the biting finger off, stepping on glass burning him was too far. They would want revenge but not go to that extent where he could press charges and ruin their lives. No matter how much they hated him they wouldn’t do that or go that far. So that’s when I knew it was real. But a premise like that’s cool af
And then after he thinks it’s a setup the demon laughs and mocks him with all the people dropping dead again then repeat this about 100x until he goes insane. That’d be the real best ending.

I interpreted the ending like this. Drew, who probably was the only person in that studio who had any faith, comes out of the experience able to break free from his abusive relationship with Max. Max, on the other had, who never had any faith to begin with, just this idea of being like the Angel Michael, learns nothing from the experience. When he see’s that blue check mark he decides his fame is more important than his friend or the people who he hurt through his actions. It would be interesting to see what they do if they do have a sequel though.
I wonder how they would go about it, as they essentially helped the Devil to jumpstart the Apocalypse and how the whole thing affected them when they realized how they were actually used.

Yeah.. but there's no amount of priests able to practice a massive exorcism. 3M viewers is a lot. But, if something like that could be possible, Satan's would have power like God such as omnipresent being. if the chaos keeps rising, the people would all die and the devil just killed people on random but in large scale. We see that Max even though he's left alive, he's still seeking for false approval. So he lost his battle.
You know how celebrities have to do something or sell there soul for fame, I believe in this movie he had to first Sacrifice 4 people to gain 4 million as you seen. And by him getting so much viewers he also helped the devil spread his corruption much like celebrities and their music.
Idk why but when I first saw this movie I immediately thought “this again?” Cause it felt like I was watching a horror cliche: A fake tv show doing something real only for the members to get fucked up and killed. It’s a good movie though, for some reason it reminds me of Grave Encounters
I mean he did cover something similar to this recently. It was a korean horror movie where the setup is exactly the same. They fake hauntings and scares to get more views but its actually the supernatural forces manipulating them.

I agree. But the way the movie was promoted wasn’t exactly like they were trying to be trailblazers or reinventing the sub-genre. It’s a take it as it is movie, and a really good one too if u take account the budget of the film. I can name many high-budget films that are total flops compared to this one.

One main difference is that the Korean version features the same livestream broadcast aspect as The Cleansing Hour...or does it...? [Maniacal laugh.]
It's a pretty clever demon, but I probably would've just cut the feed the second I hear the victim tell me to in their normal voice.

A demon would never try to force someone to confess a sin - that is an act that brings you closer to god (which is the exact opposite of what a demon wants). I'm not religious, I just can't get down with the whole premise of the film :3

depends om the demon's goals. what if letting 2-5 fishes run free equals way more than that caught further down the line and maybe even your released fish getting re-caught at that time. demons are masters of the long game. kinda have to be when your in the sin game.
True. But they like to punish as well. And to top it off, this things got a vendetta against them. In most cases they probably wouldn’t force sins out. But I’m sure they’d be okay with an exception or two if they’ve been really ticked off. Confessing was part of the punishment using the gf for the tech guy and then fucking up Max’s reputation. Cause his need for likes and fame was the strongest weapon the demon had against him. It knew that making max confess would possibly ruin his career for good. And that’s all max cares about. Plus the it was about to use possession on about 3 million people and start the apocalypse anyways. So does it really matter if one or two people confess their sins? I feel like I’m the grand scheme of things it’s not gonna matter due to the amount of carnage this thing is about to cause and unleash on the world.

Hey FoundFlicks, surprisingly the original short 4 The Cleansing Hour was just as strong as this full length version. I will have 2 go back and watch it again, but I swear they even used some of the footage from the short in this film. It's the last story in a anthology flick called Dark, Deadly, and Dreadful.

Technically, you're not really suppose to ask them anything. You're supposed to just tell them to leave in a polite but firm tone. But you are actually supposed to be polite. So the tangerine isn't a bad idea.

Hi Foundflix! I’d really love to see your take on the 2013 indie movie The Borderlands, directed by Elliot Goldner. It’s a British found footage set in a rural village; a priest and camera man have to investigate claims of miracles from the village’s church. It’s a slow burner but the ending is absolutely brutal - to the extent that I still think about it sometimes. I think it was released in the USA as ‘Final Prayer’ - don’t know if the US version is different but for me, it was a good’n. Thanks for your videos, they’ve been a real highlight for me during lockdown!
