The song details the Danes and other Nordic peoples raiding Britannia and their views on themselves and the peoples they conquered. Great reaction! You probably heard the hook in the movie Thor.
The song is about the Viking invasions of Western Europe and the British Isles between the 8th and 11th centuries (We come from the land of ice and snow/From the midnight sun and the hot springs flow'). As people have already mentioned in the comments, it's been featured in several films from Shrek, School of Rock, Thor Ragnarok, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The only single flaw this song has it that it ends too soon.
Whats crazy is they spit out albums one through four in about two years time. They were just warming up! Every album was great! Not a clunker to be found anywhere!
"We come from the land of the ice and snow" 🔥 Over the course of your Led Zeppelin journey, I highly recommend you react to their studio version of Kashmir; it is so good, AND THEN also react to their live version from their "NO QUARTER UNLEDDED" performance from 1994; I thought it was impossible for Kashmir to sound better; the expansion that they did to the song was phenomenal; my husband and I sat in awe when we first saw it televised; had to go and get the CD immediately.
I never got to see Zep live but I did see Robert Plant twice. The second show, Plant and his band played Immigrant Song and the crowd went off the chains.🖖🏼
I saw Led Zepplin in 1973 at Kezar stadium San Francisco. That is when I realized the versatility of this band, which some called psychedelic blues, blues rock and just plain hard rock. The universe brought us the true Gods of Rock and one of a kind. Black dog and When the Levee Breaks are 2 of my favorites.
This has been used in a few movies and even some commercials I believe. You have probably heard parts without knowing. The album will take a turn though. Always expect the unexpected with them
Hey gentlemen, you are in for a different kind of ride with this album. Pretty mellow compared to all of their other albums. It was critically bash, but I loved it because I was a fan!
Great reaction guys you obviously are zoned in on Led Zeppelin unsurprisingly however you nailed it with your key comment on this music being used by Guns & Roses very striking with Paradise City 👍
One of the few singles. The B side was “Hey Hey What Can I Do?” It’s a great song, but it never appeared on an album until a compilation album after Bonzo died. FM radio played it a lot where I lived, and I loved it. This who album is different, but I like it.
I remember betting friends that, "Hey Hey What Can I Do", was Zeppelin when it would come on the radio in the late '70s. They'd be all, "No it's not, I have every one of their albums and this isn't on them." I won all those bets, but they wouldn't pay up 'til the radio DJ said who it was. lol I don't know what Zep was thinking by excluding it. You put that gem on III instead of Roy Harper, and the much-maligned album would not have been maligned--that's how great the song is.
Just think about Zeppelins album openers Good times bad times Whole latta love Immigrant song Black dog The song remains the same Custard pie Achilles Last stand ( my favorite) In the evening
Awesome! You're reacting to one of my favorite Zepplin songs. Yes, this album is different, they decided to change things up after their first two. It's more acoustic and improvisational, with folk added to the blues-rock stew. In fact, it's my favorite of theirs. I recommend that you do the whole album. Gallows Pole, That's The Way, and Since I've Been Loving You, and the rest, are not to be missed, IMO. Peace!
Good observation. By the 3rd LP the band was moving away from just blues, as in the 1st LP. In the early 1960s a Viking settlement was discovered at Newfoundland in North America roughly around 1000AD. This was 500 years before Columbus. One of the sagas (Erik the Red) mentioned Vineland. The temperatures then were warmer than now, and some type of grape grew that far north.
As far as Led Zeppelin songs go, please check out there "funk" and groove side! "Trampled Under Foot", "The Wanton Song", "In The Light", "Fool In The Rain", and "For Your Life".... studio versions ONLY!
Love all the bands and guitarist you're keying in on , but you're missing the maestro of guitar playing Jeff Beck who just recently passed away. Grew up with Jimmy Page and played in the Yardbirds with him for a short time, Anything live by him would be much appreciated. Thanks, Keep doing it guys youboth are becoming my favorite reaction channel. ✌️ PEACE!!!
@AirplayBeats thanks for replying, you guys are the best ., yeah hard to say where to start. his catalog is extensive,, ,Becks Bolero, Goodbye pork pie hat, A day in a life, superstion, a brush with blues, , I'm sure with the subscribers you have, knowing you're gonna react to him will have many great suggestions also, just need to be live to see the brilliance of him . Thanks again ,PEACE!!
The song after this one, it might be named Friends but that's not the impression you're going to get once you hear the tune. 😉 It leaves me shaking every single time I hear it! In one word... Creepy.
This is the album they broke from mostly blues based English rock. This song was covered by Trent Reznor/NIN for the movie ""Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
Robert Plant wrote the lyrics after the band played some dates in Iceland. The third album is indeed different. After the craziness of the first two albums and all the touring, the band took a break. During that time, Robert took Jimmy to a place his father used to take his family on holiday when he was a child. It was a cottage in Wales called Bron-Yr-Aur (pronounced like "bron-er-ire") and means "golden breast" or "golden hills" in Welsh. The cottage had no electricity or running water so they had no other option than to play acoustic guitar and harmonica. This "gentler" musical approach would find its way into this album. Fans were shocked with the change. Some loved it, others hated it. The critics mostly hated it but the band couldn't win with critics. The first two albums were dismissed as being too loud, abrasive, and bombastic with weaker stylings than some of their "better" (according to critics of the day) contemporaries such as Cream or The Jeff Beck Group. With the 3rd, critics complained the band had gone "soft" (because of the acoustic/folk aspects of several of the songs) and were accused of trying to copy Crosby, Stills, and Nash. They asked "where was the hard rock?" This third album shows them stretching into different musical dynamics and would set the groundwork for future songs. Set aside what you think you know or come to expect from their music and listen with an open ear.
Jimmy Paige and Paul Rodgers(GREAT vocalist from Bad Company) form a band called The Firm... Please check out "Satisfaction Guaranteed"...! (with the video)
LZ’s third was a change for them. There were a few good song’s like this one but others were a real experimental turn. But don’t give up just wait till you get to the fourth album and some real good songs come out there
I hated this record when it was first released. As a wannabe guitar player, I was looking for crazy good Jimmy Page solos to learn (which ZOSO would have in abundance). It took a long time to grow on me, and caused me to get a 12-string), and these days it is the one I come back to again and again.
You guys want to hear a song that showcases Led Zep that showcases how great they are, listen to In My Time of Dying off of their Physical Graffiti album. It’ll blow you away. Lep Zep III is not their best work, imo.
John Paul Jones' bass ........ wowza.
Multitalented musician who rocked the bass . He also played all the keyboards on LZ songs
The song details the Danes and other Nordic peoples raiding Britannia and their views on themselves and the peoples they conquered. Great reaction! You probably heard the hook in the movie Thor.
What are you talking about? It’s about Vikings rowing a ship.
I believe General Moters used this song for their new Hummer I believe. They bought the rights to a couple Zep songs, Cadillac had one as well

This song was in School Of Rock, Shrek and Thor Ragnarock. They wrote it after visiting Iceland about the vikings🎶🎸🎵
And the movie 300 as well!
Many other movies zeppelin has the biggest gitar riffs of rock history at least top 3 ever
Best band that ever picked up instruments….Period.
When the Levee Breaks on Led Zeppelin IV drums were sampled to death in the 80’s and 90’s.

There’s that funky 16th note syncopation again. This song blew my mind when I played the album for the first time.
That's what I love about Zeppelin is their sound changes with every album
The beat can carry my coffee any day, and not spill. This jam is one of a kind.
Whats crazy is they spit out albums one through four in about two years time. They were just warming up! Every album was great! Not a clunker to be found anywhere!

Yes to all of this!! That Unledded version is otherworldly.
I'm sure they'll get to Kashmir when they do Physical Graffiti.
I also loved the live version at Celebration Day; shout out to seniors!

Great catch with the GNR Paradise City.
There is a scene in the movie School of Rock where Jack Black sings along to this song. Great reaction 🤘

There is a live version with an extended guitar solo at the end and Bonham’s drumming is thunderous. That version is twice as long.
Their studio work is great, their live work is another level of excellence. The live version of this in Sydney is epic!
This has been used in a few movies and even some commercials I believe. You have probably heard parts without knowing. The album will take a turn though. Always expect the unexpected with them
Did you just say “where the ice cream blows”? 😂😂😂
From this same album, Since I've Been Lovin' You is a must!

Thomas, this was one of my favourite Zep albums! Left the blues-rock recipe behind and charted a new course.

Interesting. I wonder how it went over.
