They can't leave the hotel for screaming fans but I just breezed through the hotel foyer, totally unnoticed, went out and bought myself a coffee at a pavement cafe and read my newspaper. But I still get to sample the Groupies at the after-party". LOL

Some bands are like that. When Niel Peart of Rush took a several year hiatus after losing his only daughter to a car accident and his wife to cancer 9mos later, basist/vocalist said "we thiught we were done. I don't want to play in Rush with any other 2 guys. It is the band, us 3 guys. There's no replacing anyone in this band." Fortunately, Niel came back for several awesome more years before brain cancer took him earlier this year. And now Rush, sadly, is done. Like these 3 friends, the best bands are true friends, Bonham and Plant particularly being close in Led Zeppelin.

    • @Ram44
      @Ram44 Před 4 lety +5

No autotune of course, but this live version is not entirely from Long Beach. The yell was edited from the first night in LA where he was able to hit it ONCE. His voice cracked on all other attempts at those two shows. By June 1972 he no longer could do the TRUE Immigrant Song yell as he did in 1970. He had to do a falsetto yell in 1972. Still effective but nowhere near the POWER of Robert Plant at his best. A shame he lost that range and power so early.

"Immigrant Song" was written during Led Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath and Germany in the summer of 1970. The opening date of this tour took place in Reykjavik, Iceland, which inspired Plant to write the lyrics. He explained in an interview:
We weren't being pompous ... We did come from the land of the ice and snow. We were guests of the Icelandic Government on a cultural mission. We were invited to play a concert in Reykjavik and the day before we arrived all the civil servants went on strike and the gig was going to be cancelled. The university prepared a concert hall for us and it was phenomenal. The response from the kids was remarkable and we had a great time. 'Immigrant Song' was about that trip and it was the opening track on the album that was intended to be incredibly different.
Six days after Led Zeppelin's appearance in Reykjavik, the band performed the song for the first time in concert during the Bath Festival.

We'll drive our ships to new lands

    Valhalla, I am coming!

Our only goal will be the western shore
    Ah-ah, ah!
    Ah-ah, ah!

How soft your fields so green
    Can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war
    We are your overlords
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing

Went to a Bachman Turner general admission concert in Tulsa in 1974 and it was the last Tulsa would ever see! There was such a push from the rear, that those folks up front literally got pushed through a 30’ series of glass doors and the whole thing came down! Many to the hospital who were severely cut and trampled!

@@lantose That definitely ain't good. Hopefully, you weren't one of those people who had to get medical attention. I did, once @ a Black Sabbath concert, see a poor girl get beaned in the head with a whiskey bottle. That was BAD! She was on the floor, but the bottle came from the nose bleed seats! Great thing happened though... the culprit was wrestled to the floor by other concert-goers and subsequently handed over to the cops.👏👏 Good health to you in the future.🤙🖖✌️

I saw Zeppelin in Dallas, '73 Houses of the Holy tour; they played 3 solid hours, but didn't play this one, just about my favourite of theirs. Now I think I see why. This here was one year earlier and he was having trouble hitting that high note. God love Plant; he laid down a magnificent blueprint of vocals on all those records that subsequent wear and tear would make difficult to reproduce. It's the same situation as Keith Moon found himself in, in his last years. His boundless manic energy which he had put into their records had all but dried up by then; he'd be exhausted after a set.

Jamal since you're on this musical journey, and experiencing music. There is a man that you must listen to. The song is About to Begin from the album Bridge of Sighs, his name is Robin Tower. As these lyrics say
f you stand in the light, you get the feel of the ride
And the music that plays in your ears
In your head you can hear, a voice so sweet and clear
And the music that plays in your head
As it flows up from the ground
Taking all who hear that sound
Close your eyes, its about to begin. You will see how fitting this journey will be for you with this song

Achilles Last Stand is one of those songs that hardcore Zeppelin fans like but probably isn't the best song to recommend to new Led Zeppelin listeners. It's a good song if you focus on the nuances such as Bonham's but to new listeners that don't focus on that stuff it's just a 10 minute song that goes nowhere.

@@escaleraalcielo6990 Soul Train Bro is damn good. That dude is god tier as far as breaking stuff down and researching the history of the group/song he's reacting to. The thing with Soul Train Bro is he's listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin songs before listening to Achilles Last Stand. He was already a fan at that point when he dived into the song. If I remember correctly, he did Achilles Last Stand several months and several songs after his first listen of Led Zeppelin. I could be wrong but from personal experience I don't think you can really appreciate a bands deep tracks until you get an understanding of what a band's truly about.

Zeppelin are great because they were a supergroup with a unique sound and highly skilled members, others tried to emulate them

Felt like a lightning storm hit the place... the ENERGY!!!!! All the audience who had been seated up in the stands, broke like a wave, over the barriers & down to the grass in front of the stage.
    Magic experience!

I was listening to this back in Jr high school when it first came out in 1970, I was 15 years old. This is close to the end of what they call Acid Music and just before or as it was starting to split into Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. Love this stuff and the 80's. This is the kind of music that makes your heart pump or go to war with.
