I didn't feel like countering every single little argument out there, that's not the point of this video. But I want to add something amazing a chatter told me - 3p crosshairs are SUPER OP for invis lights. Only the XP-54 gives you a sight when invisible. Firing out of invis with any other weapon is straight up guesswork! This, in addition to correcting the inaccurate crosshairs, shows a clear unfair advantage that's granted by installing 3p crosshairs

I think they need to just make the bullet shoot in the direction your gun/crosshair is actually pointing... Hunt showdown does this and it makes the guns feel much more real and harder to control, which is what the devs are actually intending when they add all this fake jiggle to the sights.

If Embark provided accurate and reliable sights, the reticle was static, and if bullets didn’t always go to the very centre of the screen, then there’d be no reason to use 3rd party crosshairs. With the way guns shoot, recoil, and how bullets ALWAYS go to the centre of the screen, why not provide a usable crosshair?

    • @willshikabob
      @willshikabob Před 2 měsíci +10

There’s no inherent advantage in a crosshair, if anything it gets in the way if you’re good. I could play 10 games with half default crosshair and half overlay and see no difference in my gameplay. Skill diff is an advantage. Your sponsor is 3rd party software that gives audio enhancements, which is an advantage. frame and refresh rates are an advantage. mnk vs controller is an advantage debate. There’s no reason to lambast people for adding something into the game that should already be there. It’s on Embark to add usable crosshairs and make their gunplay more consistent, which will hopefully be done next season.

Well something is cheating if it is against the rules. simple as that. not sure what is confusing about it. what broken logic did you used to get to the conclusion that gaining any form of unintended advantage is not cheating. did you think "well sticking something on the monitor is available then it must be legal"? or did you go by "it is not detectable then it must be legal" ?
There are pieces of equipment banned in all sports just because they are so good that they make the sport uninteresting.
Thing is - rules are there to keep a games fair and interesting. I agree that the problem has to be fixed by the devs, but it is sad that there are some mechanics in games that we can't have just because they are easy to corrupt (as you said about the fixed sens, that would be a super cool mechanic, but sadly we can't have that in a game (imagine a spell that makes you sens fixed to a low value - a stun, or when a gun overheats the sens gets fixed to a high value so that it is hard to control)).

My monitor for instance, is equipped with various modes tailored for distinct gaming experiences and activities such as FPS, racing, RTS, RPG, cinema, and even night vision settings. While experimenting with these modes in the practice range, it became evident that they all look awful and greatly compromise visual clarity. However, suppose these settings were to offer even a slight enhancement in visual clarity. Would utilizing them then be deemed as cheating?
Furthermore, let's contemplate the scenario of a colorblind individual dissatisfied with the in-game color options resorting to third-party software to aid in distinguishing between specific colors. Would this be considered cheating? What about players who, due to physical limitations, rely on alternative hardware to maneuver their characters because they cannot use a conventional mouse and keyboard setup? Should such adaptations also be considered cheating?
While I'm not advocating for the widespread use of overlays, it raises the question of whether it's fair to penalize someone using a crosshair overlay on a potato computer facing someone with top-tier hardware.

It boggles my mind how they took time to make the built in crosshairs actually jump around, but never bothered to make the bullets actually follow it. Like, what was the thinking there?! The only reason people think some guns are bad and inconsistent is because they expect the bullets to end up where the iron sight or scope visually is. The new burst pistol is a hilarious example of this where it jumps so much you aren't even able to see the enemy before the next burst is ready! I guess the devs are just relying on controller auto aim and think it "feels fine"...

I used a crosshair overlay for the first month before I found out it wasn’t allowed. Since I switched back to the in game crosshairs, I can say that I don’t feel like my play was affected.
It definitely has an advantage with some weapons like the xp, lh1 and ak, but the crosshair can also cover up targets at longer ranges when ads.

Disclaimer: I am not using any additional software from my PC or Monitor to enhance my gaming experience - Something that a lot of big gaming studios are aiming for.
    Anyway.
    Here are the questions:
    - Are people bannable because they have 240 FPS instead of 30 FPS and having an "unfair" advantage of seeing pictures moving faster thus having the faster reaction time?
    - Are people bannable because they have a mechanical keyboard instead of having a membrane one.
    - Are people bannable because they use a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller.
Keep in mind that all of the above are against TOS because they provide you with an unfair advantage over the rest with worse hardware.
Do you see the problem with the TOS? Exactly - specifics. And while some community managers confirmed this it wasn't an official statement on their TOS page, so it's a blah blah policy.
Until they update their TOS and Rules then it's all for nothing and people can argue all they want about it.

Getting banned for an on screen crosshair is egregious. Why do these community managers feel the need to die on this hill, its baffling to me. Facepunch has allowed crosshairs for Rust for example. Players needing to use these in the first place exemplifies the issue with their gun model animations, and lack of crosshair customization. This whole situation shows how far this game is from being taken seriously in a competitive scene.
This is not a problem with the players, this is a problem with the game that they need to address and have a united stance on. This can't be interpreted clearly from a couple faceless managers on discord and the fine print of the TOS. I wonder when I'll be banned for using a 240hz monitor since its "hardware" and has given me an "unfair advantage" or when I'll be banned for using innit audio, a piece of software that increases the quality of spatial audio. How is that necessarily different than buying a $200 gaming mouse, or mouse pad? Or SCUF controller with multiple customizable paddles? I have the PS5 DS Elite controller and I can guarantee that there have been more than one instance throughout various MP games that I have won a gunfight, moved better, etc. because I had extra buttons than someone else had. So if I don't have $150 for a gaming mouse pad, $150 for gaming mouse, $150 for a SCUF controller, then shouldn't I be able to use a free or $20 crosshair overlay to make it more fair for me?

These customs crosshairs are just another tool to add to your competitive arsenal, you still need to land your shots. Sounds like the developers need to fix their game and correct the bloom on those weapons that use iron sights.

I’m not gonna deal with every fps’s shitty version of the same crosshairs when a dot from my monitor is all I need. Like sorry but when I’m burning away neurons in brain playing light as fast as I can I don’t want to focus on having to correct my shit because the game is inaccurate. And that’s really it. The games is shit so much so that a neon dot does it better for me. If you wanna ban me for that then this game is just dead. Won’t fix the crosshairs but bans players who do. Yeah fuck a game like that

I find the whole idea of a non static crosshair or bloom in games stupid, it adds RNG into gunfights and is meant to purposefully reduce the skill gap. If I am accurate I should be accurate, dont make me miss when I'm on target. You basically nerfing me lol. And the funny thing is on aim assist it isnt as bad, as a lot of games reduce recoil with it and the magnisitism reduces it a bit

Again, just like the short, unfortunately not everyone in the community really cares too much about a little dot, it can give slight advantage sure, but it doesn’t drop the skill gap THAT much. Especially if you know how to play the game and have 300+ hours for example, there’s just no way it would be that big of a difference. If it is, that’s a skill issue. Not to mention anyone can get a $150 monitor like you said, which is undetectable, so is tape and a marker, therefore why even give so much time into such a silly thing? That’s what I think about it.

There's no concrete evidence in your 'sources' indicating that custom crosshairs are deemed cheating. The discussion, including comments from an Embark employee, remains open-ended. Customizing your crosshair, a common feature in FPS games, hardly constitutes an unfair advantage. Claiming such customization creates a skill gap and then concluding with unverified claims is misleading. I urge everyone to review the ToS directly.

  • @vsapFlacko

Using an advantage not integrated into a game to facilitate one's progress undoubtedly constitutes a form of cheating, whether specified in the rules or not. It's as simple as that, and it's evident. Unless, in an exceptional case, developers state (on the official Discord for example) and explicitly include in the Terms of Service, that it is allowed to use a custom crosshair other than the default one. This would make little sense as developers should rather offer new crosshairs as well as new settings directly in the game. It would be much more logical to proceed as such.
Some people, to defend themselves or counter-argue, say that using a keyboard whose software allows adjusting key activation to achieve a faster response time, or using a mouse whose software allows modifying its speed curve to be faster or slower, is the same as displaying a custom crosshair via third-party software or a PC screen, but that's false.
Adjustable keys offered by certain software brands such as SteelSeries or Wooting, for example, enhance keyboard responsiveness without constituting a form of cheating. Similarly, mouse software that allows adjusting their speed curve provides a precision similar to DPI adjustment, but in a more detailed manner. Why isn't it cheating? Because these customization options offer superior performance, just like, for example, upgrading from a 60Hz to a 144Hz or 240Hz monitor is not cheating, but rather provides a significantly smoother and more comfortable visual experience.
However, using macros or other forms of automation does constitute cheating, as it accelerates and/or simplifies action execution. Modifying a crosshair to gain a visual advantage not intended by the game goes against fairness, as it unfairly benefits those who use external tools to alter the gaming experience. Although more "legitimate" because less extreme than an aimbot or a wallhack, it still falls under cheating.
It is true that some people might argue that using devices offering advanced features (such as the types of keyboards and mice discussed earlier) is also an advantage and that therefore fairness is compromised, but the difference lies in the fact that these features regarding these keyboards and mice are available to all players if they own a copy and are accepted by the community and developers as an integral part of a fair gaming experience, without conferring an "unfair" advantage over other players.
It is important to note that these settings are allowed and considered legitimate enhancements to the gaming experience, as they allow players to customize their devices according to their individual preferences.
There may be ambiguity on this matter as it is complex, but it is essential to recognize that any visual advantage not intended by the game can be considered a form of cheating, including the addition of an external custom crosshair in order to replace the one imposed by default.
