When I started painting when I was 13 I called that braille when I used the tac-rag on the doors for blend but as time went and learning from my dad RIP I got super good my father showed me how to spray single stage, raptor liner, laquer, acrylic enamel, solvent and waterborne and how to hide colors with body lines and shadows

I was spraying dark silver metallic and it was mottled, rough on the tack cloth and after 4 coats I gave up. Emailed Brian. He replied right away and told me exactly what he said in this video. I wet sanded with 800. I switched to slow reducer and it was only 70 degrees. I resprayed (also using DV1 gun at 15-16) and it was so easy....just like Brian said. My last coat (I call a mist or dust coat) was also into a wet coat and it just helped unify the metal flakes a little bit. This is a keeper of a video Brian. Thank you.

I just been using my clear base as a sealer on like jobs where you have a tight blend,
1 coat over your primer and into your blend areas, takes 1-2 more coats of paint to cover but works good, nice and smooth

Great vid as usual, as for melting in a sealer edge, I’ve always used my high temp reducer(95+) turn the psi down and wet it in, how ever you have to be careful cause the reducer will make the edges run.

Wow! You really know how to lay that paint down and blend. I've been watching many of your video's on it and learning so much from you Brian. I know "It's Just Paint" but I am apprehensive about attempting a roof and hood with silver base coat clear coat for the first time on a daily driver that sits outside all the time. The clear is badly peeling so I know I'll be sanding it all off and painting in a garage, Silver looks tricky. I'm wondering if I should just spray it with single stage paint an hope for the best. I know you recommend not doing home jobs in metallic single stage but if I'm only trying to make it look better should I go for it.

Nice job Brian, silver is the worse color ever with the trouble with sand scratch swelling, "tiger stripes" and color match. A PPG Rep gave me a tip yrs ago when blending silver. He said lay down your bedding/undercoat clear, open up your fan pattern and hold your gun at a 45 degree angle and walk backwards to the panel as if you were running a comb over the surface. I don't fear a blend on silver anymore!😆

Hey Brian. I’m learning how to paint. I’m restoring a 1952 Chevy truck. I did expoxy primer. Then bodied out with high build primer. I did all the body work. I want to do a gun metal grey with black fenders. I’ve seen guys do a black base first then do their paint. What’s your advice on doing a gun metal grey? Do I do a base coat with black, or just use the gun metal paint as it comes? I’m a beginner, so be kind 😂😂

quick unrelated to this video question, I have some faded paint and watching videos to start a diy 2k rattle can job in the next few weeks, I will be spraying same oem color but was unsure on sanding. I seen some videos where you sand the paint off and then I see a few videos where you just use a scuff pad to scuff the current paint to do primer. when do you use what I guess is my question?
