  • PSA: Keep an eye out on your rear bearings! If something starts to make noise, attempt to repair immediately or a much larger issue can occur. This is a 1999 Big Bear 350 4x4 with a bad rear diff. This is what happens when there's low fluid, no fluid or bad bearings

    Step one of diagnosis: realising that's not a differential. It's a final drive. The only differential on that ATV and most ATVs, is on the front.

    Hey huge thanks man. The only one thing I wanted to ask is I’m about to do maintenance on it and when I put the oil in I guess I feel it right up to that cap and I don’t even know where the front one is ha ha ha but I know it needs to be done.

Last yr right before I put it up for the winter I started to heae this....tink tink tink...from the back. So not the brakes. My axle on the right rear moves around. I can take it in hand an push it in almost a full inch. Ive never seen that. But it still spins like it should etc. Any thing will help. Not maybe videos for 09 400s lol

    Do you know if you can change the rear axle seal (side where fill plug is) while the axle is still on? or does the whole axle need pulled? I was thinking I can get away with installing it while together but asking

    So I just got a 1999 Yamaha Kodiak. Similar setup. I have changed the differential seals on both sides. Now I'm still noticing leaking fluid after riding for a bit out of the left side free floating axle. Any ideas after I have checked the bearings and the seal is new so I can't understand where that fluid is coming from.

    We have a 2001 Big Bear 400 Professional. It has less than 2000km on it. We mainly use it to haul logs and wood and whatnot. Last year, we installed tracks on it to be able to use it in the snow.
    Lately it started having issues when reversing. When we press the rear break and engage the lever in reverse, it takes time before completely engaging. Once it does, it will make some kind of knocking sound when reversing and sporadically it will very briefly slip.
    It won't ever do it going forward, on in reverse. It this a common problem? What do you think we should look for first?

    Question: I have a 2005 magnum 330 4x4. Low torque and won’t go over 20-25 mph in high gear. While up on jacks, I can see the rear axle is wobbling like it’s bent or has bad bearings. Clutch cover is off, clutches seem to be shifting properly and no belt slippage. Drive shaft seems to be putting out good rpm, but the wheels turn slowly in comparison. No obvious grinding or clicking from the rear diff, but I’m thinking that’s where the problem lies. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

    • @WeTryMotorsports
      @WeTryMotorsports  Před 3 lety

      After reading the question a few times, seems like you worded it in a way where you were looking at this being the explanation... However, the bent axle is unlikely mission of a broken differential. Would be the indication of a bad rack and pinion or differential would be noise in the rear or obvious leaks. However if there's no noise it's unlikely. if you're absolutely convinced it's the rear, take the fill screw out and put a pinhole camera down there and see what it looks like. there's absolutely no way to tell what's wrong with your machine unless you dig into it unfortunately. Regardless, if the axle is bent you need to do work on the rear one way or the other take it apart and see what it looks like. Good luck!

    • @WeTryMotorsports
      @WeTryMotorsports  Před 4 lety +1

      Well first of all, is your machine modified at all? It's pretty rare but it does happen. Second, make sure you get the right year pinion and spline. I do know that the 80s and early 90s do not fit the mid and late 90s. If you bought the innards new, you can always return for ones that fit. Without seeing it's really tough to tell otherwise. Good luck!
