  • Hey there guys and welcome back to another video at TopTier Garage. Today I will be showing you how to tear down a Yamaha big bear rear differential so you understand what your getting into prior to ripping it all apart. For information on how to remove the rear differential i have a video posted about that also.

Just so you know that collar where the pinion bearing is held in is reverse threads. And it is a bear to get out. My rear dif was in terrible shape and full of mud so it was hard to see how somethings came apart. There is only one seal that has me stumped. It’s the one below the needle bearings. I’m going to give it my best guess and hope it’s the right direction.

@@jakehicks1130 thanks for the tip I got that counterclockwise cup off now there seems to be a pressed on collar to the pinion gear that holds the bearing on how do you get that off try to pulley puller and it just seems too tight

I cut it off. If you cut almost all the way through then strike the cut you made with a chisel it will break. Then I ordered a new one from partzilla.

If you have access to a welder just run a couple of small beads around the inside of the bearing race you want to remove (it's trashed anyway). As the beads of welding cool they will shrink and pull the race with it. You can usually knock the bearing out with little effort after that. I use this method on pressed-in car wheel bearings all the time and it works great. That way you won't cause damage trying to cut it out.

The lat part is easy it is opposite thread spin right to unscrew left to tighten U can weld a bit of box section to it and use a pipe wrench had to do this because I tightened the crap out of it screwing it the wrong way hope this helps

The collar of the pinion gear has left handed threads. Lefty tighty, eighty looise. Use a 30mm castle socket.

Not only did you not show how to do it, you did show ring gear reassembly. Stoner like uh took it apart and uh here's some stuff, and uh if doesn't go back together.

@@kyleryeager4941 yes I did. It's pretty difficult but what I did is get a punch and some liquid wrench and blow the soft punch into the gear from and angle. It comes out after that. Depends on your cenerio but after that removing the bearing is also difficult. Dry ice is also amazing
