@@JesusisAlive_33 Because it creates a risk to the employees that go into the cage after a fight. You've seen it before where fights do a flip and nearly knock down someone, be it an official, the cameraman or whoever. It's a risk so the commission fines fighters for doing it.
It's the same thing with going outside of the cage before the results are final. That's why fighters can still get DQ'd and lose the fight even if they knock someone out. Until the Ref officially calls the fight, the competition technically isn't over.
Yeah, it's dumb. But the commission has rules; and when fighters stop obeying the rules the commissions set then they start going extra dumb on athletes. On the other hand it's also dumb for the athletes to jump the cage to begin with. Dana talks with almost every fighter that doesn't immediately get sent to the hospital. You can talk to him afterwards, you can address him in the post fight interview, plenty of opportunities are there so there's no reason to not wait 3 minutes for the results to be finalized.
It's like getting a speeding ticket for going 6 over. Yeah it's dumb and will most likely be inconsequential, but you're not going to get anywhere that much faster so there's no real point to do it, especially when you know the consequences are disproportionate.
Dana said it a long time ago. These comissions are ruining the sport. They want to turn it into the no fun league just like the NFL and MLB

Look rules are rules. And the athletic commission has to enforce these rules because if they don't, it will form a precedent for someone jumping violently over the cage.
However, normally enforcing entities have the option to punish appropriately. So they can give a symbolic punishment of 1 dollar and a warning. This is the way to go because it does prevent this being a precedent and also doesn't punish Lopez. I can't imagine the NAC does not have that option.
