Most people dismiss Kickboxing. Alex Poatan did nothing but violent pure striking with all technical skills possible against the best of the best for 7 years straight. It's like chess with the body - Alex set up the position and distance he wanted Hill to be. And, in case the left hook failed, he had his feet over Hill's ready for the next sequence. In the ground and pound, Pereira trapped one of Hill's legs so he couldn't roll himself to cover from punches and hammer fists Alex Rain down on him.
Nobody can argue that he wasn't ready after Herb stepped away, he had about 3 seconds of hand fighting to realize they were re-engaged in the fight. 3 seconds is a long time in fighting to understand the fight is on. He knew, no excuses.

I’ve never understood all the hype behind Jamahal, I’ve never thought he was crazy talented. He doesn’t really have any great wins, and the names he does have W’s on were all over the hill. Like why is this dude the second coming of Jon Jones when he beat a washed Thiago Santos, Johnny Walker, and 42 Y/O Glover coming off a war.
Second coming of Jones is a stretch for sure. But dude is pretty good, watching the Thiago and Glover fights. Great understanding of distance and weapon selection. Also shows good athleticism in some of his grappling exchanges, showcasing fast skill progression.
I think he is just a little reckless, with his comfortability relying on his chin. He should have observed his limits in this match up, and tried grappling and mixing in strikes.
